I started getting this 1 and a half year ago. Mine is rather extreme and I am triggers by a lot of things including foods and stress. The pain is horrible, it feels like I'm being stood on. I lost 74kg and I became basically anorexic. I'd be sick and I'd struggle all the time and my teachers started to call me anorexic and tried to get me diagnosed. Eventually after a useless surgery that wasn't needed I was diagnosed. It started at 17 ! So iv been told it most likely won't fade. I'm 18 now and still struggle. The pain is terrible, I can't even talk when I'm I'll and I am on terribly strong painkillers like morphine ( only when I have a big attack that I would usually go to hospital for, however I have a phobia of them so its better for me to be able to take it at home). Im dehydrated always. I worry about my work life. But really you just have to accept it. Its terrible, its isolating and you feel like a burden a lot of the time. I'm sick a lot on the street as I can't walk long distances without triggering it. When I do I'm labeled an alcohol or a druggie. I'm never and its upsetting. Having an invisible illness is hard for anyone, but it makes you so much stronger. So much braver and determination because u want all u can get when your in the recovery stage.

Ark01000 - I felt sad reading your story. 'But really you just have to accept it.' It may seem like that but at your age, it is too early to develop resignation. I have suffered all my long life with migraines accompanied by nausea (I describe them that way rather than writing 'abdominal migraines' as this latter description is apparently used by doctors to describe childhood migraines located only in the stomach). I was regarded as a shirker at work because of my absences due to migraines. Friends and family were sceptical. Migraines - brought on by periods, brought on by thunderstorms, brought on by stress, by the wrong food, by too much noise, by heat... you name it. It is very difficult to explain to people how you feel - as though your entire body is being poisoned, as though any tiny sound will resound like a hammer in your head and a touch from the edge of a sheet on your throat or some light in your eyes will cause you to vomit again. You cannot eat or drink or move or read or talk.. Strong painkillers can be a great relief if used in time but eventually will cause organ damage. I used a painkiller called S***** for years and if I caught my migraine in time, it worked like a dream. But it was taken off the market and replaced a bit later with different ingredients and is not effective for me any more. The reason for this? It was highly addictive! People were abusing it badly. Drugs can help if used very sparingly and cautiously and as a part of an overall regime. But... I had migraines every month before my periods until menopause. One thing that did help was Evening Primrose Oil; depending where you live, you may be able to get these on prescription. There are a million people, I know, giving a million different bits of advice! So annoying, and I just did it. Clearly your case is severe and I think you should try to seek out sympathetic specialists who will run batteries of tests on you and have you in for observation to at least find out if there is anything you can avoid in daily life or anything you can do positively. See if you can get a sympathetic doctor to refer you to a specialist or a clinic which is running trials. Preferably based in holistic medicine. There is a way through this for you - I was never informed enough to deal with my migraines and always felt too busy to focus on dealing properly with them; but there is more information out there now and more help. A strict regime may limit your life in some ways but it will free you from these dreadful experiences you are undergoing now. Also, just a thought, make up a little card explaining your illness and keep it handy so that when you are sick in public you can hand it to people to read - this way they may be inclined to assist you rather than to judge you. Sadly, those who have never experienced this illness have no idea how much pain you are in. Good luck.

Thank you for uploading your video on migraines. It is a little understood illness which causes not only sickness but has social and work life repercussions too which you touch on here. The more people who know about and understand it the better. I hope you have found help since posting this. ONe tip - yes everyone has a tip, I know - Evening Primrose Oil prior to menstruation can help.

I have had them for about 5-6 years now. I was going to this doctor for my whole life and he didn't know what was wrong with me. He even sent me to a doctor who specialises in abdominal illnesses and he didn't know what it was. My parents began to think I was making it up because I always felt sick, nauseous and had headaches. People were saying I was really dramatic and stuff. In school I would get these 'waves' multiple times but I had to just put a smile on my face when really I was just always in a bad mood. I started to get frustrated not knowing what it was and it made me really anxious everyone I had it. One day the doctor who I have been going to forever said ' oh yeah, that's definitely abdominal migraine ' . And I was like ....... I still have it now. I find it's worse when I haven't eaten or drank anything. Breathing excercises help me as well, and when I am hot it makes them worse.

Mia Colleran Thank you for posting your story! Yeah, unfortunately people do think you're over reacting or faking it. It's all I heard when I had a day off and I went in the next day. Luckily I have a family who knew that I wasn't lying and I was in real pain. At least now you know what you have and you can start finding things that help. I find it worse in heat and when I haven't eaten or drank as well. It's horrible! Again, thank you for your comment! It was nice hearing your story :)

Marshmallow Puppy I am so sorry you are going through this:( My 12 year old is going through the same extract symptoms you are. It is ruining her quality of life and we're in the process of trying to get an official diagnosis. I feel so helpless because I can't seem to find the answers for her symptoms. She will be seeing a pediatric neurologist next week though so we'll see what happens. Have you come across any prescription medications that have offered any relief? Ibuprofen seems to barely work.
@miacolleran152
@miacolleran152 7 жыл бұрын
phoenixflier25 unfortunately there is no medication to treat this or to even relieve the pain. I was on medication for a good while because I thought it was helping but it was actually just my attitude towards it that helped. I know it can be hard sometimes but you just have to stay positive and push through it.

I had no idea about abdominal migraines until about 6 months ago but I’ve had it for about 8 years and I’m only 12. I have a lot of trouble with my anxiety and most doctors wrote it off as stress (even though that is one of my triggers). I’ve had the abdominal pain for years but recently it’s turned into mostly headaches and this week I had one migraine attack where I felt awful and I was just feeling better and I went straight into another attack. Recently we’ve been doing some research and we basically had to tell the doctors what we thought it was (abdominal migraine) to get them to help me with it. My doctor advised that I take ibuprofen or paracetamol as soon as I feel another attack starting but it’s not working and the next medication they are going to try is going to be really strong and I don’t want to feel woozy and even more ill from the tablets. The Migraine Trust have some good information and it states in their info that migraine (including abdominal migraine) is considered a disability so schools should not pressure pupils about attendance. I’m getting so fed up with feeling ill all the time and it’s nice to know I’m not the only one :)

I have this illness. I periodically vomit, this can last for days. It is hell. Just finished a violent vomiting bout. Can't keep painkillers down for the lovely accompanying headaches! I agree it's important to keep hydrated, but don't glug down the water if you feel a vomiting bout approaching, just sip it slowly. I agree about the photosensitivity problem (the bright lights). Stay in a darkened room. I have heard that patients can end up hospitalised on drips because they have lost so much nutrients during episodes. Thankfully not been there yet. Don't know what to tell you - I hope your situation improves. I enjoyed your video and will subscribe. Ironically I must now advise you to spend as little time as possible online, as the light from computer screens are notorious for triggering headaches / visual problems. Best of luck love XX.

Oh god! I hope you are okay :( I hope your situation improves too! Agree with you on the water thing. It is best just to sip. Taking to much in at once makes me feel more nauseous. Luckily my screen doesn't seem to cause to many issues. However if I do already have a headache it does hurt but it never seems to cause it. Thank you so much for your comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for subbing!

I am 15 and have been suffering with these dang things since i was a baby. I had to have a special kind of formula , along with many many gastrologists. These happened to me about once or twice a month, and around the same day of the month.I have been prescribed to a medication that actually prevents them from happening. This medication is called I Cyproheptadine I Make sure you bring this up to your doctor on your next visit and ask them about it. I do know this prescription works because i do still get my abdominal migraines, but only when i dont take my medicine for more than 3 days. I would like to here some feedback if this method has helped you or not or if you are doing the same as me.

I’ve had this all my life I’m 28 now except I don’t get headaches very much it’s mostly in my guts it feels low I have a toxic feeling in my body and when I get “attacks” it’s like having bad food poisoning symptoms.

Luv ThatSoy Yes! I have tried to describe my attacks as feeling like I'm being poisoned. Not in a paranoid way just the symptoms- it's not a normal stomach pain; I get SO sick and turn red and sweat. I don't feel better until I have an Imitrex injection and have gotten sick from vomiting or other.

One of my co-workers suffers from Migraine Headaches. When he was younger he went through what you went through listings to doctors. That was useless...... So as he got older he looked into Holistic's, he learned somehow to control his migraines, by locking himself into a dark room, put on earplugs to suppress sound.. He found out that his migraines have to do with the lights and sounds. Just something I wanted to share....

I suffer as well and it is absolutely miserable. I found that dairy is a major trigger, as well as stress and a boat load of other things. I get regular episodes, about one a month, and usually end up in the ER, as it also triggers chronic vomiting. Drinking A LOT of water daily helps, and when I get episodes, I have found Benadryl helps more than any pain med I have used, including dialudid and morphine (given in the ER). I have gotten shots of Benadryl and know the liquid form reacts differently in the body, the only thing I have found that helps. I now get a specially made suppository compound of liquid Benadryl from a Compunding pharmacy that I use when I have an episode. No, they do not cure it or make it go away, but reduce the pain more then anything I've tried. I also have ondansatron, a strong nausea med, that I take as well, my doctor believes it will help, but I'm not really sure if they do. I typically wake up with an abdominal migraine and it lasts into the evening, pain and puking nonstop. I'd do anything for a cure and feel I have tried everything. It's very discouraging. Every aspect of my life has been affected by my health.

I got diagnosed with abdominal migraines when I was five, and I was normally sick as a result of the pain. However, when I went to junior school, I seemed to grow out of it. I am now in my second year of secondary school and these migraines are starting to relapse. Last night I got three hours sleep because the pain was so excrutiating. Thing is though, I'm not sure whether to do the whole doctor cycle again as there didn't seem to be much they could do last time, but I just want to have something to relieve my discomfort and get me some sleep.

Lydia's Channel Thank you for your comment! I think everybody is different in the way that they cope with it. Some things that work for some may not work for others. I think you just have to find something that suits you. I would still maybe see a doctor anyway just to see what they say, it may be useful. As for me my abdominal migraines shifted more to my head as I grew older so I don't have much experience with stomach pain. I have noticed through whenever I do feel sick or my belly does hurt putting something really cold on it helps for a while :)

It has been a year already since I feel so bad. After school exams I felt that my stomach was hurt for days and for like 1-2 month I couldn't even go out. I was scared of throwing up in public and water was only thing which helped me. Now I don't feel bad for everyday but couple of days in month I feel bad again. It's really tiring, I feel like there's something inside my stomach and I want to throw that thing away to stop hurting. Sometimes I have headaches too. Now I kind of know how to deal with that illness so I hope that I'll do that well. Good luck everyone
