Oh my god! The worst thing that could happen to me as I write my sci-fi novel is for it to end up being hated by the readers.

Incidentally, I read my first Chuck Tingle story this year! _Pounded in the Butt By My Own Butt._ 🤣 I DNF'd Den of Vipers (K.A. Knight) and The No-Show (Beth O'Leary) in 2023, and some of the year's lowest ratings for me were Lovers (Fiona Cole), Breaking Time (Sasha Alsberg), Romantic Comedy (Curtis Sittenfeld), The Rising (Brian Keene), and So That Happened (Katie Bailey)

We have pretty similar taste in books. If you don't like them, there is a high chance I won't like them either. Why then do I still write some of these books down to join my TBR? Make it make sense! Lol.

I gave 2 books 2 stars this year. 1 at first I thought it was becauseI was pregnant and it being more Literary Fiction and mmy brain wasn't processing. however, I was talking aout it with my husband and realized, no it had a pacing issue. the other one was a 3-ish star until the last 1/3 and it did something that pissed me off so much I nearly gave i 1 star. I DNFed 2 books but that was because I thought I was in the mood for them and wasn't. 1 book I dont out because I read 30 pages and was disappinted.

California Golden by Melanie Benjamin. It was infuriating. All the characters were awful people. DNFed about half way through. The only upside was that I didn’t pay for it. I checked it out of the library. However, I did dodge a bullet because when it came time to get my 50% hardcover book birthday coupon from Barnes and Noble, I was debating between California Golden and another to buy and went with the other. Thank God, I didn’t choose California Golden to buy because I’d have been more ticked off that I paid actual money to read it instead of it just being a waste of time.

The Salt Grows Heavy was one of my least favourite books this year, beautifully written but just couldn't enjoy it. Also had 1 Dnf, Quartered Sea by Tanya Huff, it was the 4th in a quartet that with every book I was getting less interested in so I just after 50pgs stopped. Also even though Witch King made your worst list it was one of my top 10 books so thanks for picking it for the bookclub!

The Salt Grows Heavy was gratuitously violent. Haha!! I’m happy you loved Witch King. I loved parts of it but I wish it was a trilogy instead.

I watched Beautiful Disaster because I heard it was fun trash, and it absolutely was. But I knew that Jamie Macguire sucks pretty bad as a person and the book is more of an After type story (the leads in the Beautiful Disaster are both main characters in the After films too, and I think it might even be the same production company, lol) where everything is just toxic and unlikable and abusive. I really think they made clever choices to adapt the book the way they did! W for a film adaptation on this one for sure.
