I break down my new minimal camera kit. I've had a ton of fun shooting some portrait photography with this kit lately.

I love this minimalist kit! Having a smaller setup for travel is perfect!

I love your photos, they give off real National Geographic vibes - especially with all the portraits amongst nature. So good! Also, i'd recommend trying Tiffen Glimmerglass 1, I find it a much better version of Pro-Mist tbh

Appreciate that! I’ll have to give glimmerglass a try! Thanks for the tip.

Thank you for this video. I am reducing my gear as well. But never thought about the small Profoto A2. Great idea!

Really loving the A2! Heard Godox has a similar flash, that one might be worth checking out as well.

Love this kit and your setup. You nailed it with your comment about we are so focused on gear and lenses first and not on the creativity. Keep up the great work.

Wow! I have a very similar kit- xt5 with the 27 2.8 godox ad 100 , godox x3 trigger and angler 24 inch soft box . Light weight and capable! Keep up the great work!

Awesome! The x100 is my first step into the Fuji system. Love their color science so far.

Great video! I’m a minimalist too, I don’t have those accessories that do not contribute to a better photo with exception of a NiSi in front. My gear is just the x100vi, wrist strap (artisan and artist paracord) and the godox 350F since the built in flash causes red eye and doesn’t reload fast enough. I either use a Patagonia 3L dirt roamer waist pack or the Temba 4 skyline v3 4 pouch.

Sounds like a great kit! Forgot it in the video but I have an older super thin peak design strap that I shortened so it’s comfy around the shoulder or with one wrap makes a nice wrist strap.

Kit can be great, needed to see the results :(((( Subbed because your portraits are really the style I love.

Nice video! I've been thinking of doing something similar with my GRIIIx. I have the optional adapter that brings it to 75mm equivalent, so I'm thinking I can even do some traditional portraiture. I realized my Godox triggers will work with Ricoh in manual mode. So, small camera, lens adapter, small flash for OCF (runs on two AA batteries), small trigger, and a compact tripod/light stand. Didn't get a chance to try the kit yet, but I'm hoping!
@nickroushАй бұрын
Sounds great! Hope you can get that kit working. I wish fuji would come out with something like a 70-90mm equivalent.

anything I can do to minimize even further by replacing the soft box with something even smaller? I'd like everything to fit into a small shoulder bag.
@nickroush18 күн бұрын
You could go without the soft box and just work with hard light or try to find sources to bounce the flash off of. If you have some help maybe have someone bounce the flash into a small foldable reflector?

@MartinV.Ай бұрын
Great Video!! do you bring a light stand or just hold the softbox?
@nickroushАй бұрын
So that clic softbox does have a mount for a stand at the bottom of the handle. Sometimes I’ll bring a stand with me if I’m solo, have a friend hold it for me, or in a pinch I can hold it myself if I’m shooting come close up portraits.
@koffilyet7914Ай бұрын
how do you balance natural light and flash? do you use a light meter?
@nickroushАй бұрын
I've used a meter in the past but now I just eyeball it. Typically I'll shoot a couple photos without the flash and dial in my exposure around 1/3 - 1 stop under exposed and then bring in the flash and adjust power to get a mix I like.
@koffilyet7914Ай бұрын
@@nickroush I see thank you. Great video!
@CharlieWangPhotoАй бұрын
Do you gain any benefit from the leaf shutter using the profoto wireless system or are you limited to normal sync speeds?
@michaelacedenoАй бұрын
@@CharlieWangPhoto leaf shutters flash sync at all shutter speeds so wouldn’t matter what flash you’re using.
@nickroushАй бұрын
Correct! Some wireless triggers may have some sync timing issues but you should be able to sync all the way up to the leaf shutters max speed. For my setup in this video thats all the way up to 1/4000 sec
@CharlieWangPhotoАй бұрын
@@nickroush @michaelacedeno That's great to hear! I tested a godox system at work with a friend's X100 IV and we couldn't figure out how to get it to work, but if we ever try again, we'll try to get a trigger that lets us dial in the sync timing. I really appreciate the insight. Seems like the perfect way to min/max flash size to power ratio while traveling

Hmm... Don't have any advice for you there. Wonder why it wasn't working. Good luck!
