MY NEW HOME TOUR! -1939 Cape Cod Decor On a Budget!

My new home Tour and how I decorated on a tight budget for a home in 2023. I have six rooms to decorate and am trying to respect the 1939 Cape Cod-style cottage. I found thrift stores!!! So much happened this week~ I painted and placed new furniture, planned my gardens, bought new appliances, and just took a breather to live this new life in a new city! I have so many questions for you this week! What should I do with the window treatments!!!?
Much of the cottage home is not done but Desi is back doing his Yoga and I am back feeling that the sky is the limit as to what I can achieve.
Do we love things because they are perfect? Or do we love things because of when perhaps they could be?
Thank you Debra and Trish for thinking of me...thank you to all of you that continue to wish Desi and I good luck in our new city. You make us stronger and braver. We all are faced with two roads and perhaps the road not taken is our path to a better life...

I also like the blue, it’s very soft and cottagey. I’m afraid yellow would not complement the butchers block, which right now looks very nice. Your house looks lovely…all the best ….enjoy the decorating part.

The happy in your eyes and in Desi’s body language…very heartwarming❤️ your home is beautiful + cozy but most importantly, you’re exactly where you’ve wanted to be- close to your son and his family🥰 I’m so very happy for you, Susan. As for window coverings, I’d probably choose pleated blinds that can be raised and lowered; I had fabric + lace ones in my older home many years ago and they were perfect for the cozy cottage feel💗

I thought Desi was so cute doing his leg stretches. Then I thought of my little boy Kody and that he never had done them. Then, lo and behold my sweet Kody 🎉❤😂began to do leg stretches!! Like magic! And he always done them ever since that day! When we go outside for a walk around our house, he begins his leg by doing his stretches. I just love your new house! I have to say, about your window treatments, I don’t have any cloth at my windows, l have thought about any sheer fabric but so far I only have nice white blinds. My woodwork is white through out. The rooms are all painted in a neutral that suits each room. You are going to love living in this little town. I just have a feeling.I’ll checking in on you and Desi! ❤

Desi steals my heart every time, especially with his bow ties. For windows, how about white flowing curtains hung from a curtain rod at ceiling height. It will make your windows look bigger, your room will look bigger and the curtains will add softness and elegance which also describes you. You're doing great. Keep going.

Even though blue isn't always considered a cheerful color, the color of your cabinets is light and bright and I don't think you need to change a thing in the kitchen. Congratulations on your new house.

Love the kitchen cupboards. It is a lovely color blue.. ligh and very calming. I painted my very dark cupboards white..if I had to choose another color..it would be the color blue you have.

I would never think I would like a blue kitchen but your’s is ideal… keep it and spend $ on something else. Also the living room windows look like there are pull down shades up on top.. yes? If so, I think they look good that way. It will keep a clean look to the room. You are doing a great job! Also, I bought the C.S. Moto jacket and pantsuit from HSN… my first purchase there👍🏻🥰🫶🏼

I think your home character is just screaming for plantation shutters. They are timeless, beautiful, and provide the privacy you probably want, while letting is all the light if you want it. Congrat's on your new home. It is beautiful, just like you are!!

Love your new house. I suggest for each of your windows, a simple, sheer panel with some kind of pattern of the same color, on it. And just keep your pull down blinds underneath, for privacy/protection. Enjoy your new place, also keep the robin’s egg blue kitchen cabinets, they look great.

I love, love, love your kitchen cabinets and would not touch them. I love your chairs, all of them! Such a nice "french cottage" type of look. I'm going for the same look you have as I restart my life alone at 68. I absoloutel LOVED you new mantra, and I promised myself , and you, that I would live by it. Don't look at the flaws in my life, but look at what I can do with my life to make it beautiful, just as you did you gorgeous french cottage! What an absolutely charming house! I can't believe all that you have already done with it in 2 weeks! I truly believe this house was meant to be yours. I can see the joy that you feel as you look at the potential lurking around every corner in the house. It's the perfect project for your talents. My friend, I haven’t had a chance to say hello since your last video. As you put your new house together, I’m putting my old house back together, the house I grew up in. Your joy is contagious! I’m so happy for you and with you! Yes, we gotta go for what it could become. I cried when I saw the damage in my old house, but your new adventure fills me with hope of maybe having time to rebuild and keep moving. That little dog of yours inspires me to find new life and find new love. It’s as if Desi came “back” home… you know, where he was always meant to be. Your kitchen cabinets are such a gorgeous blue....I hope you never change them. But of course that is your decision! I need to make the decision of weather to paint my red brick fireplace. Such a hard decision because my wonderful now deceased husband helped build it. He has been gone almost 17 years but decisions are still very hard for me. He was my second husband and I loved him with all my heart....he was a true treasure. So glad Desi has made some doggie friends....that is wonderful. My sister just put up cotton crinkle (almost beach like) curtains on a rod in her home. She said it was a temporary fix but now.....after so many good comments...she is keeping them. She has wonderful windows and she can open the curtains each morning so easily....and let all the beautiful sun and breezes in. Before she had blinds and this is so much better. Take your time and don't rush your decisions ...your windows are so beautiful too. Congratulations.. everything looks so fabulous and inviting. Your grandchildren sound so beyond precious. You are one lucky lady....and we are so very lucky to know you. Just wanted to add.....Please please keep that gorgeous magnificent bed.. you'll need it when the grand want to spend the night. You will all be able to snuggle up together read books and tell stories along with Dezi by your side .....my goodness you'll need the room that bed has to offer and it just fits perfectly in your darling home. Your home is so welcoming. My window treatment ideas: shutters on the bottom half if you need privacy or it looked like you have blinds on the windows, you could use just sheers for a bit of privacy. Don’t hide the sunlight. Desi sure loves his new home!

Your new home is so lovely. I think beautiful lace curtains with old fashioned pull down blinds would be beautiful and let the sun shine in and then give you privacy at night. Desi looks so happy in his yard.

You cottage is charming. I love the blue cabinets. The color is so calm and peaceful. Be sure, whatever you decide to do with the windows, they don’t block the sunlight. The very best part of your move is being close to family, especially your grandson. I have three grandsons, 18 months, 6 & 8 years old. They bring me such joy. God bless you Susan. ❤

I would put on your windows a sheer and a light blocking curtains. This gives in light during the day and privacy at night.

In the last year, I painted my kitchen cupboards the same blue your cupboards are now. They are so cheerful! Bring in yellow accents in flowers and you know, other stuff, and save the trouble of repainting those loverly cupboards! Congrats!!!! 🎉🎉🎉

I think the blue is soothing in the kitchen but keep it for awhile and see if it grows on you. I moved from NYC to Bluffton SC, 2 years ago and I’m still hanging up pictures! Lol. Take your time. It will all come to where it all should go. I’m so happy you’re happy. I couldn’t be happier for you, Susan, if you were my childhood best friend! You and Desi are on a new adventure! Absolutely delightful. IMO the soft blue kitchen cabinets are wonderful... so peaceful, calming and cozy, especially when you are feeling stressed. Yes, sunny yellow is cheerful but when I look at your kitchen I feel peace and calm. I love it! Whatever you do for you, we all know it will be wonderful.

I'm not sure if you've made any updates yet, but I have to say your "little cottage" is so charming, and I do love the the kitchen cabinet colors and the fireplace tile even though you may change it. The white painted fireplace was a great idea! Hope you and Desi are enjoying your new home.

I stayed in my house after everyone left - even though everyone had downsizing in mind for me. After several years of pretending I could do that, I was not willing to pass up my freedom of my own home, where there are no common walls with a neighbor, or the wafts of what they were cooking on their grills. I meet so many people in local coffee shops, the library and places I go, that the calm of walking in my door is a blessing! The older we get, having another person around doesn't always solve any loneliness that may creep in. Put on your music and dance!! Dance like no one is looking - because you can be YOU and celebrate. We have entered an age where at once we could surrender our life to one of being a caretaker. And a lot of men are looking to 'hitch a ride' if you let them. Be free, celebrate and enjoy the life you are meant to have.
