My Serissa went brown and lost all her leaves, so we put her outside at the back of the garden and basically assumed her dead. It was super sad. 4 months later, she has over 50 beautiful little white/pink flowers and she's thriving in my new home. Really awesome and surprisingly hardy plants. I really hope she looks as awesome as yours and lasts me another 25 years!!

Wow! Is there anything you did in that time? My bonsai recently lost pretty much all its leaves, so I am looking everywhere? What did you do, or was it just sick?

I've had one for about 4 months. It went from fabulous to almost dead. I let it dry out too much for short period of time and it hurt it. And I know that that was my fault. I now put it in a place where I will see it every day and it looked like there were tiny hints of life. But it again, it took a step back. It is still alive because the branches don't just break. At this point I think I'm going to repot with better soil/substrate and hope for the best. I'm trying to figure out the watering. I let it dry out a little between watering. Drainage is good cuz I can see the water come right out the bottom when I water. I've heard others say don't over water so trying not to do that but it doesn't seem to be working. I'm not a rookie but not an expert either. I really like this little tree cuz it's root system has such personality. I live in central Florida so I'm thinking direct sunlight might be just a little too much for it. So I'm giving it morning sun and indirect sun in the afternoon. I've been doing bonsai for a few years now and I absolutely hate to lose a tree!!

Thanks for the tips and resources. I'm in the market for a serissa right now kind of want the pink flower variety but the white is still pretty cool. I don't have a plant room with plant lights but I'm pretty familiar with taking my house plants inside during the winter and also the hottest months of the summer. back in high school I had about 20 bonsai trees and we went on family vacation and my dad did not want to spring for a watering system and we lost all of them except for the banyan tree. I can't remember why but eventually the banyan died too and I'm pretty torn up about it because those trees would have been pretty mature by now. My first bonsai was I think a Texas ebony or something. it closed its leaves up at night which was fascinating to me as a child in the '90s. But it was too difficult a plant to keep for a beginner. Still really wish I could have had that tree now. hopefully now that I'm a fully realized adult I might be able to actually take care of just one or two bonsai. I want something that flowers like the sarissa and then something that's hard to kill like the banyan or a ficus. Happy New year's from the future y'all!

Hey there, I have liked and subscribed, and wanted to tell you how appreciated this was, considering I just bought a little serissa from Walmart of all places. It was the very least thing I was going to get that day, but now find myself very interested in bonsai. Can I ask you what the very first thing I should do for it is? They had it outside, so I set it outside. 3 days and it hasn't dropped its 🍃, but it's planted in that super fluffy seed starter. And I live in a super rural area. Could I work with what I have here in nature? Stump dirt? River sand? River 🪨?? Thank you for your time!

Amazing tree! What do you call the style of the trunk with all of the smaller looking trunks wrapped around it? Is that just something that was managed through root revealing or is that a specific styling achieved in another way? Hard to find any other examples and I'm dying to know! Reminds me of the tree of life!

When would you recommend repotting? And what about pruning?

Repot 2 years after you bought your bonsai, and only prune in spring.

Thanks for the info about the serissa, not much info on the internet and youtube. I hope i can still have an answer, even though this is an old video. The new brenches with leaves on my serissa are drieing out and turning brown and finally a bit crunchy, also i have seen some dots comming on some of the new leaves. What do you think is going on, she is in the basement and doesn't drie out, maybe it gets a little too cold there, i will check if it wont get under 45 fahrenheit, but any help is much apriciated. kind regards and hopefully i will get an answer from you

Try submerging the tree for 30 min. then let it dry out well

Thanks for the tip, next time i will do that. Now she is plenty moist. So i will leave her. Btw it is not the temperature, i thought it could be too moist at first. But i will try your tip out, now she is coming out with quite a few new brenches, thanks again for the info and a happy new year

I've just got my little baby snow rose and it has 3 main trunks. Some say to dispose of the suckers but I've noticed that it looks like you may have intwined yours to grow as one tree. Can this be done? And how please 🙏

yes just grow them out and twist into where you need them, I always keep a long one on it's own as a watering aid. when it starts to wilt tells you it's time to water. hope this helps.
