PART 2 UPDATE
First of all, I am so sorry that I haven't made updated videos yet. I will someday, but I think I need to be on the other side of this first. I started to make the updated video three times and haven't posted them. I do think that I've personally replied back to all of the emails and DM's and comments with questions, please comment if I missed yours and I'll do my best to reply.
So phase 2 was awful - wearing the expander, the splint [lower facial appliance, is genuinely what my ppl called it but others refer to it as a splint], and metal braces at the same time was painful and created such a significant lisp and mouth fatigue that I could barely talk for about 9 months. It created a type of depression in me that I did not expect, coupled with other life circumstances at that time it was incredibly difficult and changed a LOT about my life. This is the big reason why I haven't made updated videos, it still feels heavy to talk about it because I'm still in the process. After all this time, I'm still not on the other side yet. I'm in the third phase now with Invisalign and it's okay. My TMJ pain is down from 8-9/10 to 2-3/10 which is amazing. That alone might be worth it. My face is still crooked and my teeth still do not touch which creates dental problems that I am becoming concerned about. I honestly have no idea how they will ever touch at this point and it gives me a feeling of extraordinary frustration, anger, and some hopelessness about it. I really do want to provide an update because I'm so glad this is creating awareness that there are other options but I have no clue if this is the right and best treatment for other people or not. I'm still not sure if I recommend it, if I'd say it worked, or was worth it yet. Insurance finally covered 50% which helped but it's been a long road that I'm still on.
-----
This might shock you, as it did me, but there is an ALTERNATIVE to orthognathic surgery for severe TMJ disorder and pain. I'm not a doctor, none of this is medical advice, this is simply me sharing my journey. This video is about Phase 1.
My Doctor is S. Kent Lauson located in Denver, CO, from his book "Straight Talk About Crooked Teeth"

Hi Kellsie, I came across your video from it just popping up since I've done soooo many searches on TMD. I was involved in a cycling accident 7 months ago, and along with a fractured C3, and many fractured facial bones, my jaw was displaced. It looks very much like yours in that it slants to one side and the teeth do not touch on "either" side! Eating has been limited to soft foods or carb type foods that can be mushed up in my mouth. 12 sessions of PT did nothing to help and I am seeing my 2 oral surgeon today hoping I don't need surgery and can go the route of the appliance that you use. Thank you for posting and best wishes on your journey to normalcy. I hope to on that journey today also!

Oh my goodness I'm so sorry about that accident, what an ordeal to go through, I'm so glad you survived! It's definitely worth looking into, one thin I'll say though that has become very clear to me now that I'm 2 years into this process - it is quite uncomfortable and significantly reduces the ability to speak for several months, super unlikely that insurance will cover it, it's slow - and I'm in the final phase of my invisalign now and my teeth still don't touch and my face is possibly more crooked? BUT the jaw pain is 80% diminished. I'm not sure if I'd say it's worth it or not yet. I have at least 6 more months to go and will update then! Please feel free to keep us updated here as well with your journey, thank you for sharing!

So I had the issue with TMJ! After an accident i had scar tissue in the condoyle area! This was in my early 20s and the pain was intense. At 26 I had arthroscopic surgery to clean out the scar tissue followed by braces! Pain receded and my open was much better! The pain and clicking would come back periodically and I will have the pain! One thing I noticed is that my teeth while straight would not touch on one side when I bite! And I did have that crooked look. At 48 I decided to fix my bite! I wanted Invisalign but my orthodontist, who treated all my kids, recommended the classic braces but I had the tooth colored ones on top. This was to get optimal results. I can tell you, I am so glad. My teeth touch and I will be getting the braces off soon I think. I am about 24 months in. More importantly, I don’t have the pain even sporadically. I think it’s because my bite dynamics is better. Also, I don’t have that asymmetry anymore. At least I don’t see it.

Omg thank you! I'm half way through your video and I just had to share that my symptoms are so similar to yours!! I think that my bite was interrupted and my jaw and body compensated when I started having issues with a bad cavity. So I stopped chewing on the left side of my jaw for the longest now that I think of it! So then I got a root canal on that side and didn't get a crown and so my symptoms started to persist and it's been 8 years! I got an x-ray of my neck and they said its straight and I'm scared of going to a dentist just because of the costs but I've been having really bad head tightness, ringing in my ears and I think my back pain could be due to this jaw misalignment! I also do want to mention that it did make it hard for me to speak as well the weirdest thing. Might be due to not taking in enough oxygen, the nostril of the same side that I had constant head tightness and pressure, was closed on a daily basis!

Hi Mam I am watching your video right now from start to finish...I am in extreme pain with my TMJ and it really brings me a terrible discomfort with my day to day activities. I could hardly eat anything now as it really painful to chew and open up my mouth literally for about 3 weeks now. I keep searching for a non-surgical solution and I feel how you've gone through this kind pain and experience as I do at this moment. I was thinking, perhaps, if I only have health insurance here in UAE then maybe I could go for immediate surgery to end the pain quickly because it's really painful in my ear and jaw down to my neck. I've tried to massage and put essential paint relief rub every time but no effects at all. I wake up in the morning and same thing happens. I just hope that it will be gone naturally. I can hear the crackling sound as well as you've mentioned in the video aside from extreme pain. I've actually done a lot of jaw exercise but to no effects at all.

Just got Botox in my masseter and temperlis areas. For nearly two years I have suffered from what I thought and one APN led me to believe was Cervical Radiculopathy. Had an MRI showing a disc bulge at C5 C6 area and thought this was the culprit with all my neck, upper back and arm/hand pain. I have been to PTs, Chiropractic Biophysics, Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractor, and then to my Dentist. He said that a year ago I had wear on my teeth and they could make an NTI. I was in so much pain I didn't need another expensive thing that was unrelated to my problem. Fast forward to a month ago for a dental check-up I went through all my pain and suffering and he stated that this is all signs of Bruxism. Apparently I don't grind but I clench the hell out of my jaw at night. Also have the lines in mouth were the clenching supposedly shows itself. So now wearing the NTI for night and one during the day. The day one didn't seem to do much as I rarely appear to clench during the day. Far as I can tell anyways. So I keep on the NTI at night it's for the bottom front teeth. Biggest issue as I subconsciously take it out nearly every night then I wake up to find it then put it back in. So now a month later and not sure this is even helping. Stumbling upon Botox recently and finding that reducing the hypertrophic masseter (decreasing it's strength) could remove the cycle of clenching and causing all these evil symptoms. Got the Botox yesterday 05/28/2021 in the afternoon and was told to see pain relief in about 10 days and three days maybe at the earliest. Shall see.
