3 games timed out. That is a sign you both should play a longer game together. I'd like to see who has the best end game. You clearly controlled the initiative to the game, but Gothem played the rules to blitz perfectly. Rematch with Rapid!

@@oceanblues7 for sure. Would be really fun to see. I really don’t like blitz games. Would much rather people have a little time to make better moves rather than constantly worrying about the clock. But you’re right, I assumed too much in my comment based on how Alex had outplayed Gotham 3 times in a row but lost to time - which in blitz - that’s a big part of the game - and Gotham was better at it, at least in this small sample of games. I hadn’t really looked at their rapid ratings, so if they are the same, well, they would probably match well. Idk. I’m a 1250 player and I can’t even begin to get into the minds and skill sets of people at their level.

Losing on time is losing. Anyone who makes excuses while losing on time is being a gamma. Time is a crucial part of chess matches, and one could easily argue that if more time were allotted, then Gotham could have not made bad moves earlier on and won.

@@basedbear1605 of course -- yet, it is completely neglected in the evaluation of positions! Which is totally incomprehensible to me. It definitely influences what should be considered the "best move" in many occasions.
@andrewwilson9123
@andrewwilson9123 7 ай бұрын
@@M-F-HStockfish is not human. It can almost instantly play top computer moves, so the eval bar is what Stockfish vs Stockfish would result in, not what two humans playing the position would result in. Hence in some cases blunders being called brilliant moves without the human understanding how to follow up, or in this case, humans playing the best moves, but running out of time as a result
@M-F-H
@M-F-H 7 ай бұрын
@@andrewwilson9123whatever stockfish plays is obviously a computer move but not necessarily a top move. In limited time analysis computers "often" miss the best move (e.g. Solution of a puzzle) . In computer chess tournaments they have limited time (more than a few seconds!) per move and their strength varies considerably depending on the time they can use. So even for "stockfish against stockfish" it matters. But I was indeed thinking of human chess. I repeat that imho the remaining time is an essential information for the evaluation of a position.

For the second game, in the position at 22:33 after levy takes the pawn, isn't it better as black to check with rook h8 instead of the queen? which will completely trap levy's king? he can't go forward because of black rook on h file, can't go to g file because of black pawn on f file, and sure as shit cannot go back because of the black pawn on g file. he can only go back to the square he came from and he's gonna have a bad day after that no?

It's not easy to find even a 3 move mating net under that kind of time pressure, especially when you're worried about the pinned knight and losing that piece. But I have found that in most cases if you have a discovered check that is also a double check, it will result in something very bad, if not devastating, for your opponent. Alex, you are a great chess player, teacher and super-entertaining. I am thinking, that like myself, classical is your forte.
