Why did Gary's mother allow her 2nd husband to treat Gary so poorly growing up? His mother should have stood up for Gary and not let that man treat Gary in such an ill manner. Gary never saw a decent marriage modeled for him.

My parents started out young. My father cheated on my mother, to the point where we found out that we had a couple of siblings that were conceived while he was married to my mom. Now that I'm older, and I've dealt with my own life trials and tribulations, I have compassion for both of my parents when they were young. The truth is, people find it easy to judge when they have never walked in your shoes. I have never been married much less, married at a very young and naive age. Therefore, I do not understand what it takes to deal with my own Humanity while also being in a marriage. We have to practice more compassion for people especially when we have not traveled the same road that they have traveled. Again, you did an amazing job and I really love your sharing. Thank you

Gary, if you ever see this, I’m sorry for your pain. As the child of divorce, I can add some more context. Regardless of the circumstances you were the one who decided to leave. Therefore in the kids eyes you broke up their family. They are really hurt. Then after finding out about the affairs it was a double punch for them. I bet that the mom is talking poorly about you. Now finding out that you have new kids with a new woman… They might feel like they’re being replaced. Hopefully with time and maturity they will forgive and the relationship will be restored. Gary, love ure humor and ure reasoning. Totally can relate to ure issues with ure Dad. I've got those same feelings of abandonment with my mother. Abuse always hurts, but what I'd like to say is, my mother has missed out on a great person and a fun time because of her treatment of me. From what I see, ure Dad is on that boat with my mother. Keep ure eye on the prize, stay in prayer, ure kids will come around in God's time. But they will come around because they are lonely for you.

I really appreciate your vulnerability and transparency. My parents never divorced but they separated briefly on many occasions and honestly I always thought they’d be happier living separate lives. My dad didn’t want anyone else raising us so he insisted on staying even when things got very hard. But what I appreciated the most is that my dad told me everything about his upbringing, childhood, and mistakes. He’s insanely hard on himself (which made him self-sabatoge a lot)and was not equipped but I always loved that he sat me down and told me everything. It made me understand him more, forgive him, and love him. He’s my best friend and mentor. After everything he went through he just wants to be there for us and my mother. Our relationship has been up and down but I’m 30 now and we’ve both put in a lot of work to get to where we are today. Best of luck in this new chapter of your life! Loved the interview 😂

Gary if we being honest the kids are entitled and your ex is enabling it… there is no reason for your kids not to fuck with you… and your daughter is wrong to let you pay for her college tuition and then don’t want to see you on graduation day.. the least she could’ve did was say thank you… I feel for you brother… as someone who dad chose crack over his family I still reconciled with him so I don’t understand why they can’t reconcile with you!!! Imagine being used for money by your mother and you're not rich. You're a single dad and just making it. Then when you can't afford to help her, she stops caring about you and her granddaughter. 15 yrs passed. She's 75, I'm 48 and my daughter is 23. I get diagnosed with a rare form of Lymphoma (Cancer). Now all of sudden she loves me and she cares. Something tells me she just wants to be a beneficiary on my life insurance and 401k. Sucks to feel that way. Salute to Gary. Big fan!!

Gary, I want to praise you on your emotional maturity. Blame is never the answer. Keep talking to a therapist about these issues and peace will come. I also had a troubled childhood, raised by a single narcissistic mother. I ended up caring for her in the end, my siblings had all abandoned her. You have to find peace with it all somehow. Your relationship with your older children will find itself in God's time, not ours. All you can do is acknowledge them on their special days with no expectations. I went through something similar. My daughter and I have tickets to your show in Pleasanton on Saturday night. Glad to be supporting you. Stay strong!!

Great interview on Club Shay Shay. Just know that forgiveness doesn't mean you have to let the person back in your circle. It means you release yourself the emotions tied to the hurt/pain/anger. Forgiveness is for you. It helps you move forward. Forgiveness is also a decision. You usually make the decision first. Then the emotions follow later. You may never forget, but the sting will be gone. Congratulations on the twins.

I always respected you and loved your comedy and seen you are a good dude. We make mistakes and we deal with the consequences. Sometimes us parents get so caught up in trying to provide the best life for our kids that we forget to be there for them mentally. Instead of a trip to a different city, maybe all his son needed was a hug, a listening ear, etc. He seems like a good dude. But he has to take accountability for the things that he did not do as a father, outside of the trips, paying for college, etc. That is why his kids don't want a relationship with him. I've been there, as long as he stays the course and don't give up, his kids will come around. Also, now that he has twins, he still can't ignore the other children, if he truly wants a relationship with them.
