It typically occurs at the nap hour, and if you are in an environment whereby the room conserves heat too well, then the best approach is to do a before nap time workout routine of your choice for an hour and also remember to keep the dry air out during the summer the best way you know how or winter time using the thermo control with the "fan" control setting on "auto" fan setting simultaneously and not "on". Dry fan air will dissipate at auto setting, and it's good for the lungs when you do your workout out in your room at night before bed. That's my conclusion and cure after 38+ years, too. It seems that at this age, it is the gold standard age experience I've noticed. Human evolution wasn't meant for energy saving high-tech rooms, which trap dry air in rather to the contrary outdoor experience. Who even gets cured off of restless leg syndrome on a couch rather than outdoors doing stuff and then napping in the forest somewhere. I am serious about this. It's a cure on my behalf in every season of the year and counting. My time for a workout is at the 12 mark to 1am. It is cold outside to open windows and dangerous too. unpredictable too if you live with your loved ones.

Thanks for talking about this. I have RLS and I relate to that emotional feeling of not being able to talk about it because it is so strange. I know the listener cannot possibly understand. My mother had it so intensely that during the final years of her life she was not able to sit down for the length of a movie, a church service, a TV show or a lingering dinner. My memory of her is on her feet, bent at the waist over her kitchen counter where she would read or do crossword puzzles. Though she did live a long life, I believe the lack of rest seriously compromised her health. I wish something could have helped her.

I explain it:"Imagine you feel like you have an intense itch deep in your leg muscles and the only way to scratch that itch is to move your legs" I feel that at least conveys how all consuming and disruptive it feels. Its not a pain per say but an extremely uncomfortable sensation that demands an action to feel relief. It's like trying to sleep while ignoring a super bad itch

It feels like a creeping, crawling, squirming feeling, that invades your legs. Mine is worse in the evening, and honestly feels like withdrawal. It's horrible. And Requip sometimes brings it on worse!! I want to chop off my legs sometimes. It's merciless. I'm climbing the walls as we speak. Ugh. 😪😪😪

Thank you, Donnie. I loved your story. You are so right in that it affects your every day life. There have been so many times that I've had to leave the movie theater, or a Broadway play, to walk around in the lobby. There have been times when I've felt I was going to crawl out of my skin just sitting in a restaurant trying to socialize, as my body demanded movement. I'm terrified of the progressive nature of the disease. Thank you.

Thank you for speaking Donnie. My RLS now covers the whole body and I have become desperate to find some peace. I just lost my little dog of 15 years, my constant companion who eased my RLS when I was up all night. I live in FL near Orlando. I must be frank in saying several of the neurologists I have visited have no interest in treating this disease nor are they interested in learning about it. Orlando is the very worst. As for treatment, my family physician is the only one who is willing to listen. He has read the Foundation magazines I brought him. His wish for me is to have me be able to travel to one of the research facilities to be treated. He is willing in the interim to try different medications although my RLS is now round the clock, my sleep allows me about 3 hrs every 24. We need to stand up and get more information out to the medical field, open up more support groups - I just volunteered to hold one in my area and hope that will come soon. Also, as with other diseases, don't wait until you must talk about it as with diabetes and a "sugar low" in the middle of a meeting - tell people - ignore the "funny faces" you receive because there will be someone in there looking to reach out for help and you can share together. Spread the word so others can learn especially the medical field!

Donnie... Thanks for your story. I too have a mild form of RLS. Mine hits me mostly when I try to go to bed at night. I think the best way I know of to describe my feeling is that it feels like my tibia is crawling or something is crawling around inside of it. As long as I move my leg constantly, it's generally OK, but once I stop, the feeling comes again. Kathy tells me on the nights I have the problem, that she could sleep well because I was jerking my leg all night. I have even tried to ignore the compulsion to move the leg. That is almost impossible to do for very long. It happens to me when I take too long a nap in the afternoons (one of my guilty pleasures), but I take a Tramadol, a Melatonin, and a Unisom every night and it really helps me. I know that your situation is much worse than mine, but I do know what you mean.

Thanks for sharing. I usually describe this urge as similar to an itch. You have to scratch, eventhough it doesn't help. Raising awareness of this is important
