My SAILOR Fountain Pen Collection 2024 | Ginzan Snow Grey, Jellyfish, Rime on Trees

Күн бұрынHi Pen Friends! Enjoy my unboxing of my #Hachimonjiya x Sailor fountain pens that I've been wanting to collect for a while now! It is early in the year, but I am happy to have them to use for the rest of my 2024! I also have the second half of the video dedicated to sharing and discussing the rest of the Sailors in my collection! Please let me know what you love about Sailor pens and which ones are your favorites in the comments section!

More info on my thoughts on resellers: I share this information about shopping with Yumiko over eBay or other shops like JP-select (which are places where you may find these rare limited edition Sailors or other Japanese pens) because eBay is a platform for resellers but eBay makes you pay taxes - and the seller also pays fees. It's extremely non-economical for both sides. Shopping directly through IG with Yumiko (or your other favorite reseller) avoids these taxes (at least on the buyer's end).
There is a cheaper method of acquiring these rare limited fountain pens from Japan, but you will need access to a proxy address using White Rabbit's "Blackshipping" (whiterabbitjap...) or other sources of proxy service. Proxy is having a physical Japanese address to use during checkout when you buy from a Japanese stationery store so that the store (ex. Ancora, Hachimonjiya) will ship it to that warehouse/address, and then they will charge you a fee for shipping it out to you. This way of obtaining the pen requires you to buy the pen from the store's website on the date your pen drops into the store and you must buy it before it sells out (which happens within minutes!). I opt for working with Yumiko to avoid all that stress and hassle. She posts when pens restock and you can ask her to buy one for you and then pay her the fees of procuring and shipping it to you. This costs a bit more than the proxy method, but it's much less stressful on the buyer's part! (And still less than buying from eBay or JP-select).
On buying pens from Yumiko when the pens are not in "RE-STOCK", she may quote you for the cost of the pen depending on where it is in Japan - and the cost will not be as cheap as restocked pens. This is the example I described for buying my Amethyst Rime on Trees Sailor, which I paid $420 for, and that is still 60 dollars less than JP-Select. You are not required to buy anything from Yumiko if the cost she quotes is too much for you, but I can assure you, they are better than most other official resellers like JP-select! (Not saying JP-select is bad, it's great, but just expensive!)

Oh my goodness, your collection is stunning! I've never held a Sailor Pro Gear in my hand, but I love my Sailor Pro Gear Slims so much that I wonder what I'm missing out on. :) It's too hard to choose a favourite from your collection, but I remember watching your Moroccan mint tea pen unboxing video and falling in love with it and the matching ink you got with it. I absolutely do not need another Sailor Pro Gear Slim, but that won't stop me from eyeing your green pen if you decide to sell it ;) The Yoseka home pen is another one that I've been eyeing! It's out of my price range at the moment, but it's been on my wishlist since it was first announced!

I'll be sure to let you know when I'm about to put the Moroccan Mint Tea PGS up for sale in the future then :) I think it fits perfectly into some people's collection and preferences, much better than it does mine, so I will give it a fair shot before making that final assessment! The Home pen really is indeed so expensive, even the SLIM is so darn expensive...I think it is 390. The most I'd pay for a slim is 200 and even then, that's still a lot xD The Pro Gears are girthier, so the difference is like how a regular VP feels compared to the Decimo. To me at least, it feels a world of a difference xD

My latest pen is the First Snow! I have you to thank for that wonderful review that you did on the First Snow, I knew that I just had to have it ,and I got the last one! My collection is small at this point but not for long! Also crazy about Leonardo!

^_^ YAY! You got that PGS too! It's so pretty in the hand isn't it? A beautiful gem since most sailors are solid colors. These little designs all over the barrel make them quite a unique Sailor! Lovely collection! I am enjoying your videos very much. You have a soothing voice and a nice presentation. Would love to see them all lined up---yes, we always need a bigger tray don't we? Oooh Yes!!!! Go get in contact with Yumiko from goodpenlife! I added her info in my description box. She’ll be able to help you get them for a decent price - it’ll be more expensive if it’s not during a restock, but I love her efforts! The ginza snow grey is underrated as it’s not as bright as the others, but I’m sure it has its own audience and I am so happy I chose to also get it, since grey isn’t the color I’d readily want. You’ll love it once you get yours someday soon!

They all are beautiful to me and I love them all equally in very different passionate ways haha! I am so excited for you and your Every Rose has its Thorn!! That one is also a color shifting Sailor - they do these kind of pen bodies so well!! With the subtle gorgeous shimmers. You'll see like white, pale blue, and pale purple in different lighting. Now that I know more about those type of Sailor pen bodies, I think I might be looking to getting every rose has its thorn as well! XD But I'm not in a hurry. That pen will come to me someday! Where did your hubby buy the rose sailor? And yesss!! Kubozakura! I'm happy you love that one, too! This was such a fun watch! First of all, that Ginza grey is a stunner. Just gorgeous. I can't wait to see you ink it up. 😍😍😍And really all four of your new additions are beautiful. They're all so classy, and you know I'm a sucker for transparent finials and light colors! I'm still a big fan of the PGS size, but I'm going to try and see how things go with a PG since I do love, love, love the 21k nib. It's honestly become a bit of an obsession, and I can totally see why you have no plans to sell your rain series even though you don't love the PGS size. Anyway, fantastic video, as always!

I just got the starry sky pro gear slim that was a collab with PLUS like the first snow. Have you seen that? I'm loving it. My first sailor, I hated the feedback and returned it. Then I got a sound of rain spring rain and I'm addicted now.

Oh, dear, coming back to this video, I tried my first Sailor, the 1911 14k M base model… And I love it! The nib feedback feels amazing, even more to my preference than Pilot 14k nibs. I can easily see myself falling down the ⚓️ 🐰 🕳️ . My question for you, Lao, how does the Sailor 14K Medium compare to the 21k Fine in terms of feedback and line width?

Hey there! So awesome to hear you are loving the medium nib! I actually really like the feel of the 14k medium Sailor nibs feedback. It’s smoother than the MF. The feedback of 21k medium vs 14k medium is slightly smoother. 21k Fine writes like a Pilot Fine and it definitely has more feedback. My only Sailor Fine was slightly mistuned, so it sounds more scratchy than a good Fine would write. You can check out my Japanese pens feedback video to see the line comparisons and compare my Fine 21k sailor to your medium 14k !

My favorite is the Jellyish, followed closely by the Lavender. Absolutely gorgeous. BTW, the those lights on the Ginza nib are gaslamps. Totally iconic of early 20th century Tōkyō, but obviously having natural gas lines running underneath streets didn’t bode well in the 1923 Great Kantō Earthquake.

Yes!! I knew they were the old gas lamps of olden days! I initially thought they are probably from Europe as some of Japan’s stuff are inspired by a lot of western themes. But for sure, I love that it brings us back to a historical time in Japan. That’s why I love this Ginza Snow Greys nib design the most. Thank you for sharing that piece of history, Chi! Lao, thank you for sharing, I love that you’re so well versed in the lore for each pen. Great explanations and beautiful collection. As for the bands on the Home, I think it looks thicker because the bands might be connected by a hardware layer underneath. The little sliver of clear resin between the two bands shows the gold tone layer. 🧐 What do you prefer for the cap, the hardware all the way to the rim or the regular two band caps?

Hi Arnold, Thank you for your nice comments! ☺️ As for the cap bands, I looked closer at the Home one and it looks like it should be exactly like every other Sailors double band, but the metal part just continues from the larger band to the thinner band. My Home is the mistake Sailor that Yoseka dealt with lol, so maybe this was part of the mistake!! Either way, that makes it so much more funny and wonderful to have. I do prefer the single band that goes all the way like my sound of rain and the Cherry blossom (Kubozakura) pen. It looks a bit more expensive and high end, but the double band looks more classic. How about you?

@@KenchanKrafts Definitely looks more expensive and luxurious with the band all the way to the rim. I don’t have one yet with this style of cap. Of the three Sailors that I have, I do like that the caps are consistent, but I would like to try one of the full band ones. I would think it adds protection to the rim to avoid cracking as well. My two sought after Sailors Georges Latte and Nonble NBC Siamese do not have that cap feature I think. Thanking my stars that Sailor hardly does brown pens. Thank you for answering! 🤎

@@ArnoldJimenez haha!! Yes they have some very rare brown pens that aren’t produced a lot. My next Sailor to add to my collection needs to be a brown pen 😅 the two you are seeking after looks beautiful! When you are ready to get them, definitely give Yumiko a ring on Instagram. She searches for them fast but if it’s out of your price range, you’re not obligated to buy. You can also just tell her what you would buy it for and she’ll see if she can find it at that price. The brown sailors I’m looking at are the German exclusive cafe latte. Perhaps I’ll go ask Yumiko now lol!! No I must wait until the summer!! And thank you for having this conversation with me :)

Sailor Pro Gear FPs are some of my favorite writing instruments. I like the soft pink one the most. I might have missed it, but which size nib do you usually get? I prefer their Fine and Medium Fine nibs.

They're simple one of the best FPs to use!! :D So colorful, cheerful, and happy! I prefer Mediums for drier Sailor inks and MFs for most other things, But I'm beginning to think I'll need a Fine or EF even xD for planning! And YAY Kubozakura is my favorite, too! :)

Kubozakura - M Jellyfish Aquarium - MF Ginzan Snow Grey - MF Rime on Trees Amethyst - M Kissan - MF CSI (Previously M) Home - Journaler (Previously M) Refresh - MF Mint & Sugar - M First Snow - MF Autumn Moon - MF Sound of Rain - All MF Apparently, I'm a Medium Fine Sailor lover haha. But my favorite Sailors have specialty grinds on them and I LOVE IT! ^_^ I might specialty grind my Kubozakura someday because it's a special one for me as well - though its Medium nib serves its purpose of handling drier dusty pink inks, which I religiously will only ink that pen up with haha!

Thank you, Mrs Alchemist! Sanctuary Blue - Is truly a special and meaningful pen! It's my grail Sailor before it was re-released - when it was upwards of 800 USD and I could not justify such a price! LOL. Thank goodness Bungubox came out with them again last summer!! It was meant to be, and I got it the moment I saw it at the San Francisco Pen Show.

Yeah I was so so sad when I inked up my Ginza Snow Grey because I was so so excited to use it with an April showers type of blue grey ink and bam!! It’s scratchy! So I thought 💡 let me make a PSA type video to help Sailor newbies so they don’t mistake their sailor feedback for scratchy ! 😅❤

Kewl...a jellyfish 15:59... lol...I thought it was the The trident of Poseidon...lol The only SAILOR brand pens i have are their Calligraphy Pen Set ($75 cad ) 1.o~1.5 ~ and 2.o Sailor Compass Series ~ High Ace Neo Clear . Hahaha!!! It may as well be Poseidons trident!!! I love the theme of Poseidon and wanted to get the new Visconti Poseidon, but I think I’ll wait…and make my own pen called Poseidon someday. But for Japanese themes, that grey pen does have the gas street lamps of the older time periods, and I love that. Thanks for sharing your Sailor pens, Kanzee! I should look into those as well for some different Sailor experiences. It’s great that you’re enjoying them a lot!

Hi Ayana - I am assuming this Pro Gear is one of the limited brown Sailors? I personally am looking at adding the Germany Exclusive Cafe Latte to my collection because I love the pastries from our local bakery - Cafe Latte xD To answer your question, the most I would pay for an exclusive Sailor is $450. The most comfortable I'll pay is $400. At 450, I may still feel a bit guilty, but it is doable lol. If it's an absurd amount they are asking for, it's easier for me to just let it go. What is their asking price, if I may ask? P.S. The most any of us should be paying is $350 xD But I get it, if the seller bought it originally for 450-550, then they'd want some of their money back. But I wouldn't buy from someone who is absurdly upcharging for rarity.

@@KenchanKrafts hahaha you know me. I’m also looking for the cafe latte. The seller has it listed for $849 but would come down only to $750 which is still outrageous.

@@ayanarandolph5778 Ooof, that's insane. Yeah, depending on how rare the pen is, some people tend to jack up the prices for that reason alone. Like the Pelikan M600 Pink - that is going for $1300 for a pen that costs only ~450 at release. Platinum's Kumpoo is also $900 for a 250 dollar pen (cheap plastic feeling body, too). I hope you're able to get the Cafe Latte as well! I will only pay 450 at the most for that one. 750 is still too much, the writing experience is still the same as any other sailor. A new Sailor that might have similar colors to that pen may come out someday for the regular street price, so I recommend waiting ♥

Well at this point it’s not likely unless they release more or someone sells it from their own collection. Thank you for your response though 😊

Can you explain the difference between M & MF 21K?

@@abhishekpanja4363 they are extremely different! MF in 21k feels and writes almost like a Pilot Fine, but the medium writes slightly less thin than a Pilot custom 823 Medium. I can make a short just for you to see the differences :) so sailor MF and F are almost identical, but 21k M writes quite broad.

Thanks a lot…I always got helpful information from you. Actually I purchased a sailor ringless galaxy Orion M from cult pens . It’s a fantastic in every aspect but it’s not match my taste. They told me MF give you too much feedback so go for M. But there is almost no feedback& draws a broad line. So I am thinking to change it to MF. Your opinion please.

@@abhishekpanja4363 21k MF nib writes slightly thicker than 14k mf, otherwise, they are almost identical. 21k M is definitely much thicker. I like the feedback in my 21k MF Sailors. The feedback isn’t bad at all if you use the right wet ink in it. Medium and broad 21k are very smooth and buttery. I like using MF with wet inks and M with dry inks to make the line thinner on the M nibs.
