What I enjoy most about your videos is the thought and precision you apply to each move, each choice, and each cut. You explain every step of the way and that is so helpful in understanding how to get the best result from your effort. I know where to go when I get frustrated with a project...it's to your channel to see if you've done anything like what I'm working on. Most often I learn to be more calm, more patient, and more thoughtful. You've helped me more than a shrink.

I like the pads. It's crazy you have been developing them since 2016. Oh how the years go by. Even though it might look a bit bare now, in a few weeks it will look amazing. Last year it looked so good after the refinement. The dappled light through the canopy onto the trunk made the tree look so old and mature. Before the dome was too thick with branches and leaves that it shaded the trunk too much. Can't wait to see the tree again when it starts to fill up with leaves.

This pruning and shaping is inspirational (to me anyway lol)... I've always gone for a brush-style with my Serissa trees... and I now realise that I'm lazy and stuck in a habit... but you have freed me from that now! I love what you did here, and the Acacia look of it... brilliant... thank you for sharing this and inspiring a lazy git like me! 😁👍

Looks good. I think you will need 10% larger pot considering the thickness of trunk, also in video left side of tree branch is more thicker compare to right side, so in future you may try to go for more thicker pad on that side proportionate to branch sizes.

Hello Nigel, great video as always! Love to see the progress of your trees, I've learned a lot from you! I'd like to ask a question about repotting an older bougainvillea, I can't really find information about it, and I know you have an amazing bougainvillea, so I'd like to ask it here if you don't mind :) I hard pruned the trunk back to about the 1/3rd of the original size (now it's ~40cm tall) around the end of April and the tree has grown in pretty well. Because this tree was kept large, I'd like to first put it into a deeper rootmaker pot that's around half the size of the current one, and then transition to a bonsai pot later. The plan is to get a wider and a bit shallower pot than the new one later, but this is the biggest rootmaker I could find here. The question is, is it safe to repot the tree now in end of June (temperature is well above 15C at night and above 30C in the daytime - Hungary), and is it safe to do so into a pot that about half the size of the current one? I'll leave a picture here with the tree and the new pot: imgur.com/a/9RAiBUx Thank you in advance! David

Why instead of cutting lower branches you use wire to keep them up? i know you are usted to clip and grow method but wire is something you could use in theese cases.

Nigel, do you think it is possible to encourage aerial roots in a ficus microcarpa by placing a tray of water (that the roots cant reach) below the tree? The evaporation would increase humidity around the tree. I would like to see some aerial roots but don't want to risk my tree overheating in a greenhouse. It got up to 37°c last week and I can imagine that the temperature inside the oven is sufficient to reliably cook eggs.
@TheBonsaiZone
@TheBonsaiZone 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. this would help to raise the humidity around the tree, misting often is good also. I find that the air temperature needs to be high to hold enough humidity for aerial roots to form. I also keep the soil on the dry side in the greenhouse and then combined with misting and letting your tree grow, aerial roots form more easily. You could try placing the Ficus closer to the floor of the greenhouse to keep it cooler also.
