The reason why the arrows are not to weak, is because of the long inserts. The longer inserts can’t flex, so in reality your arrow are getting shorter, atleast the part of the arrow which are flexing are getting shorter. So it kind of compensate for the heavy point. Good video🏹

Hello Sir, I also shoot a BigJim Thinderchild, 54” long and 49lbs at 28”...I shoot a GoldTip Hunter 500 spine with. 50grain insert, and 400 grain tip, total arrow weight is 680grains...I’ve only been shooting trad for three years, and I can shoot pretty decent and have had good luck in the hunting field. Your videos have helped me out a lot, many thanks Sir.

The ones I’m running out of my Bear Kodiak Hunter 52@28 are 711grains. 400 grain up front. They are lasers!!! Keep up the videos even if they are like this and just excitedly show us something. Hi Jeff, I'm brand new to archery (adding to rifle and black powder hunting) and very much appreciate your videos and the great guidance you provide. After shooting recurves and longbows from inexpensive one-pieces to TDs to a Bear 50 year commemorative recurve, I'm firmly in the longbow camp. I love the longbow grip and they're just smoother shooting for me (and with the longbows I shot the lights out of the target - instinctive [split vision, both eyes open] - felt great). Shot #40 & #45 with the longbows at 66" - and that length kind of brings me to my question on arrow weight. After doing tons of research on bows I've decided not to 2-step it and start with an entry bow then move to a better bow, so I have a what I understand is a very good bow on order, a Damon Howatt Savannah, #40 or #45, 62" (29" draw), and I'm wondering what your thoughts are on arrow set up - length, diameter, weight, broadhead, etc. Thanks again, Jeff. All the best, David

Great video one thing I have noticed with the ethics insert system is the length of a full uncaught insert effectively shortens the Part of the arrow that can flex egiving you a stiffer spine on a longer arrow. Really nice when it works out for you bye but can also mess you up cause you think you're adding weight to the front so you should be weakening the arrow but it doesn't always work that way

If you ever get a chance… try the BlackEagle Rampage shafts, they have similar specs to these in the video, but are a good bit cheaper. I use the ethics inserts and their nock collar to beef them up. You could center punch a rock, just replace the field point and they’re good to go. I shoot 47#, cut arrows to about 30” with ethics 80g inserts (including the collar) 200g points. They shoot like lasers!

I would run a 400 in the Barebow arrow with an 80gr victory stainless shock outsert with a 200gr head out of it with your draw length or an Airstrike in a 340 spine with 300-320 up front both will be perfect for it👍🏻

Love your channel. Just found it a few days ago (started back into archery almost a month ago) and your videos are what I've been looking for. Too many guys are geared towards target archery but I'm trying to hunt and put meat on the table. My girlfriend got me a Cabela's Warden (basic takedown recurve) for my birthday and I'm already wanted to upgrade to a better bow next year or the year after. But for the time being I want to try an build some hunting arrows. The bow is rated at 50# @28” but I have a 31-31½"draw -still working on an anchor point. Should I go for something like this but in maybe a 340 spine?

First of all thank you so much for watching and as for your arrow set up usually 400’s are the ticket with your draw length and up to around 300 grains up front but the shafts need to be around 9 gpi like traditional gold tips, you can shoot a 340 in a really light shaft with some heavy foc weight but I’d stick with 400’s at 50# 👍🏻

Shoots amazing, but i need to pick a broadhead that'll blow through an elk. Was thinking a vpa 3 blade might be a decent choice that wont break the bank. Total weight 666 with a nockturnal, 22% foc.

I had a complete pass through on a 5x5 Bull this yr with my 58# Pronghorn Longbow at 14yrds. My arrow setup is 300 spine Victory VAP TKO’s with the 50gr Insert/Outset with a 200gn Ironwill Solid. Total arrow weight is 570gn, 23% FOC and shoots 188fps out of my bow. This bull went 20yrds and was done. iW’s are expensive but worth every penny in my option. I’ve taken 2 bulls over the last 2 yrs with a bow and they have expired fast with a great blood trail. Cheers from Wyoming.

Believe you would easily raise the bar again if you were using the discontinued Victory VForce HV’s. I feel they were discontinued prior to the conventional world seriously starting to consider EFOC. My favorite setup out of 51@28...1/8th shelf.....VForce 350...28.5”...100 gn insert...300 gn pt….+30% Ultra EFOC…612 gn total - Shot consistent 40 yard bare shaft groups…can actually shoot this bare shaft in the wind out to 25 yards - Have shot bare shaft 3D rounds with this arrow - Have shot a deer, from the ground, full length from brisket with the arrow extending ~6 to 8” beyond the inner thigh…she laiid down on the spot - Disadvantage - extremely hard on targets With insert availability now being above 150 gns and the use of standardized footing, the exploitation of extended FOC should produce eye opening results. Results derived on paper are often just that. The enhanced visible penetration results are quite evident.

I tried getting the 500's to tune, but I started off a touch too short. 400 gr (100gr insert w/ 300gr head) up front on a 28.5" arrow are a touch too stiff. I'll have to give the the heavy Ethic's a try, but that's going to push me way over 700gr finished arrow. I guess at 20 yds, who cares, that'll kill a buffalo.

Hello, I really don't understand the need for inserts and sleeves for a deer arrow. Could you not just throw a 300 gr broadhead on a stock insert and accomplish the same weight? Is there something I'm missing? Your videos are a wealth of knowledge and much appreciated. Regards,
@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998 Жыл бұрын
Thanks and yes sir you could however the main reason for sleeves is to protect the front of the shaft from damage by impacts especially on very expensive arrows and also having the weight just slightly rearward of the tip aids in broadhead flight opposed to all the weight being outside the shaft plus the long ethics inserts make the front section of the arrow much stronger and more difficult for a deer to break it off right at the tip, it’s just a super tough setup almost indestructible lol
