I had an opportunity to drive my bear in the snowstorm that traffic jamed whole Slovenia. The highway to Grosuplje was blocked and the only way home was to find the alternative roads. How was the journey? Check this video!

Hi Roman from Greece!With your perfect videos you gave me many good reason to will buy the Kodiaq.But for Greece the the most perfect modell is 1,4 tsi 150hp because we have the economical crisis!😥Exellent videos I wish you many good kilometres to you and your Kodiaq beast😀Ευχαριστώ καλησπέρα από Ελλάδα!😀😀😀

Thank you very much! :) Actually if I would have to choose again, I would consider to take 1.4 TSI 4x4 DSG. But I would take a ride first to see how it really drives. Kodiaq and ACC are making me driving within speed limitations so I am not picky with horse powers anymore..

Hi Roman, thank you for the video, what a beautiful snowy landscape. :) I‘m glad to hear that the Kodiaq performs well in show, but I am a bit disappointed that the sensor cuts out even in light snow. I do blame Skoda for that, because in other vehicles (mine for example) the front radar works just fine even in heavy snowfall. Luckily it doesn’t snow often in my part of the world so it won’t be much of an issue for me. ;)

Unfortunately not. As it was said in another comment, using heated sensors would probably solve this issue. I wonder if it is possible to add heating to the sensor „cover“.. .maybe a peltier-based foil or something.

My friend owns Audi SQ7 and he has the same problem with snow and front radar. I drive my own Kodiaq (2.0 TSI Style with most additions) and I noticed that ACC sometimes works when it snows and sometimes doesn't. It isn't perfect for sure (but still - it is only "assistant").

Actually Kodiaq prices here are almost the same as in Czech Republic. And the living expences are similar, too.

Hello Roman, I watched most of your Kodiaq videos. I'm trying to understand, are you happy with your car or if you have choice you going to swap it for other vehicle? For example - your video in Skoda dealer showroom, you just try to express your disappointment from Kodiak or I'm wrong? Thank you.

Yes, I am very happy with my car :) And I would pick it again. It is not a perfect car but much better than competition (X-Trail, Koleos, RAV4, Outlander,...) and cheaper than similar-equiped premium SUVs (X3, Q5, GLC). A great price/performance package but some parts of the car could use better materials (I blame VW for that). Otherwise I am not a person that buys something and preaches how everything else sucks :) Every car has its own pros and cons.

@Roman, Waiting for Kodiak Sportline for test with petrol engine at Sweden. Looks like the consumption of the fuel will be much higher then you have. How about surrounding noise while you are driving, do you hear it while driving or everything fine and no noises from the street/highway? I was thinking about Audi A6 Allroad, it is quite conservative car but no noise while driving it, very good assembled.

The noise is similar as the one in Renault Grand Scenic. Usually I play music loudly if I am alone in the car so I am not bothered with the noise. BUT premium cars will always have better sound isolation. Of course, that comes with the price. If I would be willing to spend more for a car, I would maybe end up with XC90 or Velar or Q7, but Kodiaq as a new car has great price/performance ratio. And remember, it is still Skoda.

Roman Verhovsek and Gadgets For me, XC90, Velar or Q7 is not much better than kodiaq.....to the test I refer...(moose test, etc...) for me a little bit more noisy....is nothing. 20.000$ more for a little bit less noisy?? its crazy.

Pozdravljen. Sodeč po slikah računalnika, ste vozili v "Normal mode" in ne v "Snow mode". Ali se motim? Sprašujem zato, ker ne vem, kdaj uporabiti "Snow mode"...

If I'm not mistaken, you have Skoda Connect. Are routes that you calculate not automatically adjusted when there is a traffic jam? It seems to me that Google could have chosen the alternative route you chose for yourself.

Yes and no. The navi detects the traffic jams and redirects you.... but only on the main roads and the highways. Even Google measures the traffic density on those roads only. But all those roads were jammed and the highway was even closed. I used those small roads that are actually out-of-the-radar.... driving zig-zag :)

Hi Roman, Hi all, any experience with snow chain? I can put only R18 on my Kodiaq (means small space between tyres and suspension). There is no option for chain. I about thinking about Thule/König K-SUMMIT XL K55 (with known problems) or try to risc classic snow chain with low profile Pewag 9 XMB. Any experience with it? Any other option ?

If you are using only winter tyres without snow chain. Ok, I understand. There should be Alp resort where snow chain are must. Another reason is 4x4 help you only when you go UP. If you are goning down from hill there should be ice or snow and 4x4 doesnt help you. Only snow chain can help you.

Hi Roman. I noticed that your « home » screen is different than mine. I have nav on the left, phone in the up right corner and radio on the bottom right. How is that you have a small nav window bottom right and radio up right?

Is it not possible to apply rain X to the camera/sensor to keep it a little longer clean?

I can't answer your question. Now I wonder if the radar is actually located near camera behind windshield? But I 've found this article: readwrite.com/2016/12/19/how-self-driving-cars-handle-snow-tl4/ . 'Radar technology senses objects by emitting electromagnetic waves. It is not affected by snow or rain as much as LiDAR is because it does not involve light reflection. Radar can still detect moving vehicles, buildings and pedestrians in inclement weather which will help automated cars drive safely. However, many manufacturers are placing the radar sensors behind the windshield so that the wipers can protect them from snow or rain. If the sensors are outside the vehicle, they may become iced over and will no longer work.'

Roman, can you tell us how your nokians are behaving on dry and wet roads both on low and higher temperatures? Also you already mentioned that bear was good on snow, how was the handling? Noise, comfort and so on?

I am satisfied with them, I am not a crazy driver so I don't need extra super tyres :) They are very stable and the price was perfect for 18". I am also very satisifed with driving in those normal winter days that I had missed last few years :) I am also very impressed with DCC that makes my ride comfortable regardless to the model of tyres and when we had the first snowfall (on the 13th Nov 2017) the 4x4 drive worked flawlessly even with the summer tyres!!! Of course, I was driving carefully but not so slow as with my previous 2WD car. The bear didn't even slip once . Regarding the noise: I usually use Canton Sound System with sound level above 50% so the tyre noise doesn't bother me. For an average driver, Nokian tyres are great. I would like to mention that Kodiaq supports strange tyre dimensions where 50% of all tested tyres in car magazines don't even exist for the bear. And different models means different characteristics. But it is hard to say how good are those tyres in a long-term. RIght now, I would purchase them again.

Roman, thanks for very detailed review of tires....My bear was delivered 3 weeks ago and I'm in big search for winter tires but in 17" because winter has come and supplies are empty here in Croatia. I'm considering Conti TS830P and Michelin's A5, also there are many positive reviews for CrossClimate plus and they look very capable.

I hate the fact that when the front radar sensor is covered with snow, the ACC does not work as a simple cruise control. this is so frustrating when driving on the highway when snowing (even if it is a light snow).

In the city: between 10 and 50 km/h. Ouside the city: between 40 and 60 km/h (max.allowed: 90 km/h). You should always drive with your head and adapted to the circumstances on the road.

Hi im between Kodiaq and Santafe new model! What is the real world consumption with the 190ps.. i heard Hyundai takes about 7 liters per 100 km what about Kodaiq? .. Thankss

I have less than 7 L when driving to work. On long distances with radar cruise control also less than 6 L. But it always depends on your leg and your driving mode/mood. I am very satisfied because my Grand Scenic had 8+ L.

I would test both SUVs. Here in Slovenia, Grand Santa Fe costed around 8000 euros more so it was no go for me but for the same price I would test both.

It works for my car (web and mobile). Sometimes there is a problem when logging in. In that case, don't sign off! And don't remove your car from Skoda Connect! On the forums some owners had problems when re-registering their cars. Just kil your mobile app and try again. If the problem is still there, try again later. During the New year holidays I couldn't get location of my car on Skoda Connect for whole 6 days. I already had shot my new video about it but I have never published it because it went back online. And now everything is OK.... for now.
