My channel hasn't been as successful as yours, but I think there's something more. I've followed you and nutnfancy for a long time and I think in addition to passion and following your inner will, the fact that you both have put in your 10K hours in what you do creates the character, personality, and also insights into what you're sharing that draws the crowds. You're both solid. There's nothing hollow or fake about either of you.

I agree, if you look at many of the themes of popularity on youtube the most successful versions of the channels are the passionate ones...outside our own communities look at makeup, makeup tutorials on youtube is HUGE thousands of channels doing it, yet only a handful are at the top...Not by coincidence, passion, skill, and decent filmography is the key...If you study what videos have the millions of views, they do all have one thing in common...short and to the point, the worlds attention span is not that great, lol

Why do people like making videos and sharing them with strangers? Well, it's either due to a level of narcissism or a genuine desire to share knowledge. Or both. It's easy to figure out. Is the camera constantly on you, focusing attention on yourself or are you focused on the subject? The big, home page, YT channels like jenna marbles for example (and other garbage) are run by totally narcissistic people with absolutely no benefit to the community other than "Hey, look at me".

I can tell you Nutnfancy is in this purely for his own 'artistic' drive. For as long as I've known him, he's always thrown himself 200% into whatever his hobby is, he loves learning about something, analyzing it, presenting his findings etc. all the stuff that goes into the vids he does now. As a very small time creator, I always feel very reticent to add to the shit mountain that is youtube. Unless I'm excited to make it, I won't do it. It doesn't pay my bills, I don't care about being seen, but there is a certain kind of flow when you get into it and present something well, it's a small feeling of achievement I get when I make something I can be proud of. Granted, most of what I do is crap, but I like to talk about the things I'm passionate about and share it with others. We spent a long time hiding from the camera, and had a long debate over whether or not we wanted to do so. I still would rather be anonymous. :/

Yes, great video!! A little thing or two that I would also tell newbies is, first, do not focus on the numbers. While watching your subscriber and view numbers go up is neat, don't let that become the focus of what you're doing. And second, don't expect everyone you know to jump on board (like your closest friends and family), and don't get your feelings hurt when they don't. The right people will find your channel and they won't necessarily be the people you expect! Be yourself. You are valuable and appreciated just the way you are.

When your channel first showed up on the side of my screen, I wasn't quite sure what to make of it. But after binge watching many of them, I have come to appreciate why you have your channel, and I really appreciate your honesty and your faith. God's design isn't for us to do everything for OUR glory, but for his. Our lives are a better testimony than our words. I think by sharing your passion for other non-faith related things makes it easier to share your faith in a positive, non-threatening manner. Faith is a very personal thing, as a fellow believer I struggled for years trying to find balance between going overboard and humbling myself with others in sharing my faith. God bless!

Well stated. I really appreciate You Tube. I consider myself an outdoorsman and have learned so many skills by watching reviews and people enjoying the same interests that I have. Most of the channels that I subscribe to are just regular Joe's sharing their love of the outdoors and passing their knowledge onto others. Knowledge is power and one should never stop learning. I also have a channel but just post it to share with my buddy's, friends and family. I know some enjoy it because it can generate revenue but most just want to share their thoughts and passions. I truly enjoy your channel and also Nuntfancy's channel. You both have taught me many things and I appreciate the time you put into your video's. Not everyone has the same intentions. Many use You Tube to spot light themselves. We as viewers just have to decide which are which. Thank You for all you do and for posting really good content.. I think if everyone stays true to their own passion their channel will be a success.

You are a good human there should be more people like you Dave, Mr. Nutnfancy & what have you. Hey I grew up in a farm and that is the life. That is when/where you/I learned to appreciate family, life, nature, where hard honest work gets you and then some. I miss it so much & I still have not been able to live in the city, but I do live a bit remote. Sad thing is out here the farmers are not only loosing water rights but the land to developers. My youngest is a miracle child health wise and is the most humble, intelligent, top of his class, top of his band and volunteers in hospitals, churches and in schools and the most gorgeous boy I could have ever been blessed with (not that my other 2 are not). It's just that this one the doctors said he was a 1 in a million case (health related and he recovered and progressed). In May 2016 he graduates from high school (& already has lots of offers). I have talked with my kids, especially him (my youngest) bout renting the property we live in now and buying a small ranch in San Angelo Texas. He said "no matter what college he decides to go to, dad just do it and we will have a place to go and get together & enjoy mother nature in an amazing place together". Wish us luck and thanks for your honesty, humbleness and great knowledge that you share with us.

I know when i started youtube yea it was kinda in my mind hey i could make videos and who knows go viral. Its been some years now since i've done videos and my purpose now and i think overall always has been putting myself out there, showing my interests in hopes of connecting with others around the world with similar interests. Its very amazing especially because youtube has really taken off the past decade and it provides people the opportunity to learn and share progress, skills etc. Its been very humbling attempting to show my hobbies and random philosophical type rants lol. Video editing and production is an amazing skill and fun hobby. I find it an incredible tool to get into the practice of filming and going back to watch yourself to analyze how well you present yourself, topic information, clarity, conciseness all those things are very important for everyday interactions with the people with work with (i'm in sales for flooring and its amazing how these skills and practicing how to present myself and being accountable for shortcomings/honesty parallels working here in the office).

Thanks for your comments Cody. I enjoyed Nutn's interviews over SHOT and consider myself a TNP'er too. That said, just because he was the first person to do gear reviews on YT, that doesn't mean anyone else who does gear reviews is just a "copy" channel. Perhaps this is a minor point, but as a gear reviewer and enthusiast, I feel like there is some good sticking up for some of the little channels. My background and approach to review vids is significantly different than TNP, and while I have him to thank for putting the proverbial flag on the moon, there's still plenty of room to explore. You've done a great job taking your channel in a very fresh and interesting direction, but those of us who do enjoy doing reviews are not merely "parrots."

TheJohn8765 that's exactly what I like about KZfaq, no editors. Just real ppl doing what they want without no one telling them they cant. I do respect your opinion but I feel like that's the problem with all the DIY shows on TV today. You Tube has filled the void that Older quality shows like "This Old House" or "The Woodwright Shop" used too. Only it has done that with a lot more selection. If you don't like longwinded then I would suggest you check out The "DiReste" channel.

+Wranglestar I counted Seven 20Ltr red fuel cans. It's around £30 to fill one of them in Scotland. I researched making my own Bio Diesel and it's something that you might be interested in as you have plenty of land to store it far away from your living quarters. 3 ingredients: methanol or ethanol, Lye or caustic soda crystals, Any New or used vegetable oil. The mix ratio is 200ml of alcohol (methanol or ethanol white spirit) 3.5g of Lye or caustic soda crystals, 1Ltr of vegetable oil. This will produce 1Ltr of Bio Diesel and the sediment at the bottom is Glycerine Soap. You get 2 products zero waste. This is a test size ratio that works in accordance to the guidelines of making your own earth friendly Green Diesel. You can also use old engine oil gearbox oil hydraulic oils with the same measurements and this is a petroleum based Diesel and not a Bio Fuel. Method: Warm the oil mix the 3 for a couple of minutes and let it do its thing for 3 days. Hey presto. You'll have fuel and soap. You can mix sugar into the soap and give it a nice lemon or strawberry or fruity smell and put it into tubs or buckets and sell it or give it away. You probably know all this already lol. Anyways, not long started watching your videos, love the good honest things you get upto, keep on doing it your way. Respect.

I appreciate that you put the effort into your videos. I would love to do what you do but absolutely hate the idea of video production. I think KZfaq is awesome as it develops though because I seldom watch TV anymore. I watch YT and channels that have content tailor made for me. I can watch a faith-based channel like this and if someone doesn't like that they can find another that doesn't have the faith angle...or make their own. You are a fine representative of the best of what YT can be.

consistency, hard work, perseverance and understanding the youtube algorithms are all necessary (youtube changed everything in the last couple years - algorithm wise). the hard work, drive and passion have to be there. so does the regular content (no taking breaks or being random!). but in the end youtube is also a computer program. youtube will promote you if you do things right. do what youtube wants. a lot of channels died in the last couple years. most of them did not keep up with the changes. keep doing things that worked in the past. that youtube purposefully wanted to get rid of. study up, people. dot all your i's and cross all your t's.

I would love to see a video series with you and Nutnfancy. Axes, boots, packs and firearms. Maybe something like you did with Allen and the War Bag series. You both live in the West, are knowledgeable and share your opinions in a clear and light-hearted way. I think it would be a great series. Please consider it. For bonus points you could each film it for your own channels and then post them. The one with the most likes in 30 days would win a prize package of "My Favorite Things" from the other. Sounds like a great idea to me, but I'm just a guitar pickin' fan of you both.

Never heard of the Nut... however I have heard a lot of people say "someone has already done that video" ...the reality is... most likely... someone has. I had no idea how BIG KZfaq was when I sarted. I wanted to make a video on a project I did and share it because when I asked for help at Lowes they told me to KZfaq it. I've sense started to deter from "how to videos" because I really have no idea what I'm doing. Something I like about this channel, is Cody is the subject... it's not a themed channel with a single subject matter yet it's highly successful. Perhaps a good piece of advice for NewTubers would be film what you want, share what you want, because that's how you connect with your audience and encourage them to watch more.

I totally agree. Whatever you are passionate about, that is what you should do with your life. You might start off doing something other than your true passion (because who really knows themselves when they are young...Heck, I must have gone down a few hundred different pathways before I finally found my true love in life), or it could be just a matter of circumstance/opportunity that you have not found your calling in life. It is a diverse world, and in the end, what is truly inside of you will force it's way to the surface. It is inevitable. Best advice I was ever given was to try as much as you can, and you'll naturally gravitate to the path of most passion/least resistance in the end. And ignore all the people who say you'll never make it, because they haven't a clue as to what they are saying...

I LOVED your first gun channel. It was a sad day for me when you shut it down. I was very confused why you did it. I thought it was because of trolls. Thanks for the good times.

But it's also a question of being found. KZfaq is not really supporting up and coming channels anymore regardless of quality.

Cody: you can take that idea of success and loving what you do and apply it towards your faith in Christ.Without a "hungry heart" and without a passion for Him,you will ,like you mentioned in this video, you will burn out and fall by the wayside. Thanks for another excellent video!!!

I have always wanted to ask you one thing about your channel. How do you get such good music? I have made a couple videos and do dream of a successful channel some day but I really don't understand how I can add good music without contacting the artist. Can you add a copywright song as long as you don't monetize? But I know you have to monetize to make a living.

Hey, I enjoy nutnfancy because he gives information, that's true. I think that when he says it is good, he has done everything to test it to make sure it is good. If he says it's junk he will tell you why, and what he thinks might be a good fix to it. I like your channel for the same reason. It is informative, and you do nice reviews, but I like the skills that you teach as well as the food for thought that you provide. Thank you for doing so.

I was getting a pretty decent following on my channel and I don't think i parroted anyone, but I decided to stop making videos primarily because of the massive amount of time it would take me to upload them. I have a cable modem and supposedly fast connection and a iMac and a ten minute video would take me (no lie) 5 to 10 HOURS to upload. The cable company had no explanation and the videos were not unusual definition or whatever, and I just had to walk away from it. I had some videos with 50,000 views and we're getting comments all the time and it was difficult to keep on top of it and time consuming. I don't know how you do it. Maybe the Internet traffic here in suburban NY is swamping the servers or whatever but I simply do not have that kind of time to futz around with it.
