Hi Marcus. Great video. I have 500l tank. It’s the same as yours, mixed reef. Keeping glass clean is a daily battle. What size uv would you recommend.

Can you get a clown tang to chill with this method? I’ve got a Rimini, hippo and clown tang in a 40 gallon quarantine tank. From a second in, he attacked everyone. They’re all 2” in length

Great video! I've been using a Dremel as well, for those curious the disc you want is Dremel SC476. Really big disc and you can cut through like butter, 5 seconds to make a cut, just watch those fingers. 😉

At the recommendation of this videos title, I upped my flow. The fish blew out and the live rock swirls around like a tornado. The corals pretty much look like a smoothie now. Is this enough? 😊

I have fully grown tanks for years without purple rocks.. I have (asterina) starfish armies that keep them clean. No purple rocks doesn’t mean immature tank. You could also be having ultra low light reef tank without purple rocks.

I'm new to this and have what is probably a stupid question. It seems in a lot of videos that a valve shuts off the purified water when the high sensor is hit. But doesn't the waste water continue to flow?

I am now entering my 2nd week of auto-water changes, though I went with the Kamoer this video gave me the idea to look for a system that can do it. It changes 2 gallons a day in my 100 gallon. So far things are looking good.

Hi Marcus, i always have too high nitrate compared to phosphate. I can control both together by feeding more or less. But when i m at lower end, i have 0.02 phosphate and 5 nitrate. And if i m higher I have 0.07 phosphate and 15 nitrate. So i m never close to the 1:100 relation. Would more bio media help? Or how can i improve?

good job on the video! I created that Emperor Aquatics Pathogen Chart many years ago and yes, I did my research - I had a dedicated partner and many good associates I relied on. I can say with confidence that most hobbyist UV equipment we competed with were grossly over-rated, poorly designed or used cheap glass. Unfortunately, these factors created skepticism towards UV among hobbyists and it appears as though this continues. We (Emperor Aquatics) rated all of our UV equipment based on 1. End of Lamp Life Performance (9,000 hours), 2. A 90% UV Transmittance through the water. 3. Operating Temperature around the lamp of 75F. Yes, we did serve fresh and saltwater hobbyists but most of our business targeted commercial applications which included both fresh and seawater fish farming, commercial Zoo & Aquarium and reclamation. We could not and would absolutely never over-rate our UV equipment - our business was International and our commercial customers relied on the successful performance of our equipment. The dimensions of our equipment was calculated using established methods, lamp output and environmental conditions.

Firstly im glad you are talking about this. Corals do not consume inorganic nitrates and phosphate from the water column which are the compounds our test kits give us readings for. Corals, though, will always consume ammonium as their prefered nitrogen source. Also "Organic" PO4 is their preference, they absorb this in particulate form through polyp capture. Not disolved po4 in the water column. Inorganic No3 and Po4 in the water column in our tanks are stage setting molecules for corals to build up bacterial colonies that manipulate the chemisty of the surrounding water, either within their nucus layer or boundary layer eco systems, they do this through the release of hormones and enzymes. Im just scratching the surface here but the majority of reefers do not understand the processes occuring. Phosphate and nitrate are majorly misunderstood by pretty much everyone in the hobby. Go read the scientific papers on microbiology in a corals boundary layer or anything ive mentioned. Its reaally quite enlightening.

I'm six months in on my 5ft 100 gallon reef tank, till two week ago i only had a MP60 (i know, overkill but i got it on the cheap). Then i added an Nero 5 to put it on the other side, slightly tilted upwards to enhance surface agitation. With my 1250 gallon per hour return pump i thought i was good. This morning i watched this video and already purchased a xf 330 gyre lmao 😂

Removing aggressive tang for 2 weeks rarely if ever works. To Re- establish territorial rights and dominance, it would need to be removed for 2-3 months. Then it works better if the removed and reintroduced tang is either lot smaller or larger than tangs already in the tank. Long stays in very large Acclimation boxes can also assist in this tricky exercise.
