This seems like a safe place to pour my feelings about 13 Reasons Why lol these are my thoughts: (spoilers) -It wasn't just the stories that made this show so heartfelt and emotional. I agree with Meg when she mentions the color change. I felt the way this show was shot had a huge factor to it. An example is how the flashback scenes were either warm tinted to show the more happy feeling scenes and how it was blueish cold tinted to show the intense sadness in those types of scenes. -That last episode hit me the most personally. I was sad the whole series sure, but the last ep is then I completely shed a few tears. Katherine Langford portrayed Hannah perfectly and really made the viewers see how hard it really was when she slit her wrists in the bathtub. The parents reaction to it felt so real as well and it was so powerful watching it. -Every person on those tapes had something to do with Hannah's death big or small and it really shows you how many people can let you down and not have a clue on what you're really thinking or feeling. Except for that counselor person, he had all the signs Hannah wanted to kill herself presented on a plate to him and he didn't care to do anything. -When Clay snapped at Hannah about Jeff dying it was hard to watch because it was a mirrored situation where Hannah didn't know Clay's relationship with Jeff and Clay didn't know what Hannah was dealing with. Theres so much more, i could talk all day about this but i think i'll leave it at that lol overall, the show was so amazing and i loved it.

This show gave me a completely different perspective on the way people treat others. I'm so glad you made this video! I think you should periscope and talk about the show with us live. I agree with everything that you said, and I hope you continue to inspire people and address matters that are more serious and sensitive. Love you guys

I was concerned about watching this as last year I had a friend commit suicide. He described to me in detail how he wanted it to happen, he wanted to do it like Hannah, but he was an organ donor so he wanted to call 911 then do what Hannah did but in an ice bath so his organs would be good to help save other people. That is not how it happened though. Some of my friends recommended that I watch it. I am glad I watched it as it shows me that I can be a strong person. This is my second year in college for counseling/social work. Sunday March 20, 2016 I received a call from my best friend of 15 years as I live in Texas and she lives in Virginia, she doesn't call me unless it is something important and I answered the phone and she didn't hesitate. she immediately told me what was going on and I panicked and cried. I had classes the following Tuesday and I went to my human service (counseling) classes then all of a sudden I started crying and could not go to another class because it hit me so hard that my friend was gone. I had tried to help him and I talked him out of it a couple of times but he left and he was gone. He was my "boyfriend" when I was 12 years old and he was 10 he was a great guy and we had plans to meet up just a few months later when I would fly in to visit my family.I stayed strong through this show and the only time I cried was the bathtub scene. That is good for me because I now know how strong of a person I am to be able to hear about things but control my emotions enough to be able to actually listen which will help me in my future career. Last month in memory of my friend I made a t-shirt and it has a photo on the front and a few other things and on the back I have the suicide prevention ribbon and the suicide prevention lifeline.

I hope teens watch the show and realize how much they are loved. My 15 year old niece just went to a funeral of her friend that committed suicide. They said everyone was shocked, he seemed happy and came from a loving home. My heart goes out to anyone hurting. ♡

I love how this channel: Strawburry17 and Lifeburry feels as though it is a safe place The stories itself especially for Hannah, as she tries to get over it with the bullying and the name-calling. I definitely related to Hannah as being that person that was being bullied and getting all the harsh remarks because i was known to be kind and vulnerable. Other people would even try and assume I was anorexic or a crybaby. Even with the friends who I was close to, I also felt alone and scared through all the anxiety and depression and body shame I went through. I also do agree too with the drama that followed Hannah too because she isn't a drama queen. People that weren't even my friends said the same about me and it sucked alot hearing that too and I would cry so much about myself and blaming myself for my own faults and struggled a lot. But again I could go on and on, but i love this discussion and thoughts!

I'm so happy that this video is a thing now. The initial message that Lina brought up about the stereotyped teen angst was the first thing that genuinely made me say "Yes, finally there are people who actually understand." and it just brightens my day knowing that I can come to all 3 of the SB17 channels and know that these people, whether it be you Meghan or Lina or John, are true and real with the world. After watching 13 Reasons Why, while traumatized and heartbroken, I couldn't help but fall in love with that show. I've been in very similar places in my mind the way that Hannah Baker was in her mind and it was, as you said, haunting. The message that the filmmakers were spreading was so clear despite the fact that they didn't beat around the bush or cut any corners. If you watched the "Behind The Reasons" featurette, they filmmakers even said that they wanted to make it as real as possible and I think they done a fantastic job at showing what it's like for people in that mindset. Being only 15 and having had these thoughts and experiences, I strongly feel like not only parents but teachers and other teenagers should watch this show because it is so so so important that people finally start to listen, particularly to this message. I found the PDF of the stageplay from the book online and at the end, it says, quote "Suicide is the number three cause of death among teens." and if that's only among teens, what about adults? This show definitely hit home in many different ways and places and I am so happy that teenagers thoughts and emotions have been created into a book and now a TV show so it can grab peoples attention and make everyone aware of the real situation at hand: not everyone is fine. If you did take the time to read this, thank you. I love you so much. You have helped me personally in indescribable ways and I can't thank you enough. ~ Conor Bennett

I completely agree with this video! 13 Reasons Why is one of the shows that have so much feeling to it. I cried a lot when watching it and it changed how I look at things like you might feel depressed or suicidal because of many tiny little reasons or one big reason. But, one thing that all of those reasons have in common... is that they are not the thoughts that make you feel happy or confident or even smart. 13 reasons why is an amazing show and I feel like many people like me can relate to how Hannah felt.

I binged this show within a day YESTERDAY and it hit me in so many hard places. I definitely, like you Megan, connected with a few moments in Hannah's life and during her hardships in which made me connect with her. There were times where I caught myself crying without even meaning to because I felt Hannah's pain and the feelings she felt. The ending where they show how Hannah killed herself made a huge impact in my life and made me remember my darker past and made me think about how my parents would've felt and how my friends would've reacted. I would definitely like for this show to open the eyes of people who were in mine and Hannah's shoes and to open the eyes to schools and parents that the signs of suicidal thoughts and attempts are not obvious and that kids are afraid of coming forward with their problems (like when Hannah tried talking to that counselor and he basically told her to get over it). I remember when I went to my doctor about my depression and he assumed I was being "over dramatic" because of my age and how kids are today. I really hope this assumption will stop soon.

It is a very important show, and it's so important to talk about mental health - huge respect to you guys sharing your feelings about it online and your own struggles. I loved the show, it really opened my eyes and heart. I too have struggled with depression for a number of years and it really does capture reality - how even an off handed comment can get to you. I was a little disappointed with the ending, I hate putting any negative aspects to the show but that's how I feel. Just the fact that there is a lot untold. But it's true what John says, maybe it does call for us to want to make a change. - hope you have a great day x Ps. It would be really good to see you guys review more series/documentaries like this.

I've seen so many comments around the internet that have said that Hannah overreacted and how people like Zach didn't deserve to be on the tapes and stuff. I'm so glad that some people have really seemed to get how she was feeling and how even a little thing to one person was a massive thing to Hannah, because that is your mindset when you are being bullied you feel like everyone is out to get you and I think that is how Hannah felt. Anyway, I love the review guys ❤️

I think for me it was really hard to watch. Just a month ago one of our students had committed suicide. A sixth grader. It was really hard for all of us. So to sit here and watch Hannah tell her story and everything that made her make her choice just hit me hard. Could we have prevented this? It's true though we didn't see the signs and now she's gone. The part when her mom walks in and sees her lifeless child hit me even harder. I'm thankful for this show. This shows that we all struggle and words can have an ever lasting effect on people. At the end of the day it's not worth committing suicide and our pain is temporary. It gets better. It will be a long journey to happiness but it will get better.

The huge struggle is that when you start giving up and turning on yourself is when you need someone the most! That is why she had her last hope and last chance! 😭 I could see Alex was struggling throughout and I just wanted to be there for him! The show hit home SO HARD! It reminded me of the darkness throughout school and how happiness was extremely rare and the lows I reached which I have never talked about with anyone but the points I reached were brought back throughout the show, the thoughts of how much better off people would be without you and it just made everything SO REAL! The death scene is so important, it broke my heart and hurt so much but it shows people and makes people think about what could happen through their actions! I want everyone to know that I am ALWAYS here to talk to, never feel so lost and alone, you are always loved by someone! ❤️

This show is indeed an emotional roller coaster. After finishing the show I realize I relate to it a lot. I know I will never commit suicide. The thought of it have come to mind but once it does I start making my scenarios of what if's? Life is hard that's for sure but it's also a wonderful gift once should live the fullest.

I agree with Lina that we really only saw the truth from Hannah's perspective & how everyone has their own truths...because remember when Hannah said that she saw Zach throw that letter away...but he actually still had it. So idk just something to think about...🤔 This was a good series...so many questions!!!

I read the book years ago, so I didn't remember too much about it coming into it. But I love how they adapted the story. In the book, Clay listens to all the tapes in a single night, and I think it was so important how the show took place over a series of days. It really let you get to know the "reasons" and how all of this affected them. As John said, you see everyone's truths, as well as Hannah's. Justin, we find out he lives in a very toxic environment. Doesn't excuse him for taking that picture of Hannah, but as the show says on multiple occasions, you don't know what another person is going through. He's got a best friend that is a TERRIBLE human, but is also the only person that's been there for him through all the crap. Jessica, we watch as she also spirals out of control. Figuring out Jessica was the hardest for me. Was Hannah really the one that stopped coming? I mean, I've been in lots of situations where my friends started dating and I become the third wheel, and suddenly I'm not included in anything or forgotten. I feel like after she heard Justin's second tape, she just wrote off everything else Hannah said as a lie. It must have been hard for her to hear something like that, no less from a dead girl. That was probably something she had blocked out, and after hearing that and not getting real confirmation from Justin, the memories probably just creeped back into her consciousness. I have a lot of things to say about Alex, Tyler and the theories that have been popping up over the Internet, but I'll get to that when I get through word vomiting about all the other characters. Alex's destruction through the series is one of the most visual, I believe. His starts pretty much immediately. The guilt from comparing his, at the time, girlfriend with her,at the time, best friend. People were already calling Hannah awful things because of the picture Bryce sent to the whole school, and that list just made things soooo much worse. There are some girls that would just take that as a compliment, and then there are the ones that just see the guy objectify her and not see the girl. Oh man, when Alex faceplanted into the pool, I thought that was it for him. His level of care for everything was just gone. Tyler fell for Hannah and went about it in the worst way possible. He brushed off stalking by convincing himself "I'm the yearbook photographer, is my job to follow people and take pictures." He very rarely talks to Hannah, and she catches him stalking her, so of course she's gonna say no when he finally asks her out. Courtney's betrayal may have upset me the most. The series starts off showing how nice and caring she is. Then we get to her tape and see her throw Hannah under the bus in an act of self-preservation. I was SO upset. Marcus also upset me cause he seemed like the only decent guy in that group but NOPE! He stands her up, and then shows up with his friends so they can watch his conquest? Ew. And he didn't listen to the tapes. He doesn't even know Hannah's truths. He doesn't even really know why he's on the tapes. I kinda felt bad for Zach in the end. His timing was awful. I don't doubt that he's a nice guy, he just hangs out in the wrong crowd. And when you're around people like that, being soft isn't an option. Ryan's character was basically what all my friends tell me theater kids are like. High and mighty. Convinced their "art" is either going to get them somewhere or make a difference. I hated how he made Hannah strip herself raw and put herself out there and then stole her work. I consider myself a writer, and out of everything in this show, that hit me the hardest. I would absolutely hate if someone took something that was hard for me to write to begin with, and show it off when I wasn't ready for anyone else to see it. I critique myself so much on my writing that it's such a big deal when I finally feel comfortable enough to share it with someone. Sheri's so nice. She just made a bad decision in a moment of panic. She and Clay would've been cute together. Alas... Clay. Ugh, I love Clay. Having that scar on his head to signify transitions was genius. I'm so glad this show didn't happen in a single night cause you really get to see how all of this changed Clay. He starts looking at everyone differently. He becomes that person Jeff (*sobs* JEFF 😭) tried so hard to break out of his shell. God, that what if scene was so sad. Whoknows, if Clay had said something sooner, would Hannah still be alive? Or would she still be eating herself up inside? I think my favorite Clay part had to be after he got Bryce's confession. He's all battered and bruised, but he's euphoric. Bryce is scum and I don't even want to talk about him. Ahhhh Mr. Porter. I get he wasn't trained to help in matters like that, but you can't just tell someone to move on from such a traumatizing experience. And it's not like Hannah could just give his name and they'd instantly believe her. Why believe a girl that has these rumors swirling about her over a boy that school values highly? Hell, they planted drugs on Clay, a student that usually doesn't have any problems and is GRIEVING , and he instantly looked into it because it was the student body president that said he may have drugs. Didn't stop to think how Marcus knew there were drugs in his bag, only thought to possibly question it when Clay himself brought it up. But did nothing about it. There were so many things Mr. Porter could have done differently. Not just as a counselor, but as a person. If he couldn't help Hannah in the way she was wanting, he could have helped her find someone that could help her, you know? Lastly, I'm sorry this is so long I just have a lot of thoughts, the Alex/Tyler theories. I do not believe Tyler killed Alex. I do think, at some point, he planned to, but I think Alex committed suicide. I believe Tyler was compiling an arsenal to get rid of the reasons that took Hannah away from him, and probably Montgomery too since he's an ass. Alex was becoming really unstable. He was so filled with guilt it was making him dead inside. He wasn't focused on things he loved, he was starting fights just cause, he nearly drowned himself. That scene with Tyler removing the picture of Alex is accompanied by a flashback of Alex sticking up for him. The way I saw that scene was Tyler thinking he hasn't added to ruining my life. He's sticking up for me. he's not so bad. I didn't see that as 1 down, 10 to go. But hey, I don't know. None of us do. That's the thing about open endings, they're open to speculation. I liked this show a lot. It is very graphic, and honestly every episode should have had some type of trigger warning. It is long, and very emotionally draining, but so so important. Again sorry this is so long!

I can't imagine if I had this show in middle or high school and how powerful this would of been. It's also powerful to see now as well seeing how I feel we have all seen or been or experienced some part of each character before in our life. Maybe not directly the same situation as these characters, but having been through some of the stuff and relating to these characters what this show portrayed is very real and honest. It's just amazing what this show did. No lie the one criticism I have with the show has to be the cut on Clays head as in some scenes the makeup on it was not blended and was completely fake looking not even matching his skin tone. Also why did no one take him to the doctor to get stitches I felt like it was just an open gushing cut the whole series! But that's my only complaint other than that this show is a must see. It just shows the power behind our actions and that everything we do has a consequence good or bad no matter our intentions. 💕💕 be kind 💕💕

When I watched Hannah going up to Clay after the party I feel like she was trying to talk about their moment in the bedroom, but the way it was worded Clay thought she was talking about Jeff, which is why he blew up on her. He was mistaking the conversation and instead just dug the hurt within Hannah even deeper. Did anyone else think this?

Trigger warning. If you are someone who has struggled with suicidal thoughts/self harm, know someone who committed suicide, rape, being bullied... PLEASE watch this show with discretion, or not at all. It is a very well done show, but it definitely is not a light subject and doesn't have a happy ending. It made me cry so much, and brought back so many terrible memories for me. Very graffic.

(spoilers) I watched the first two episodes on the day it came out and then ended up staying up until 3am the next day just to finish it because it was stressing me out NOT to finish it. I knew Clay wasn't there for quite the same reasons as the rest of them (she just needed him to be there really) but I still needed the show to get to that point and tell me that before I could sleep properly. I also just loved how little things were sewn throughout the show because it shows EVERYONE's flaws, including Hannah's and Clay's as well. It would be so interesting to revisit these characters again to cover a newly unfolding and darker story because, as a direct result of her tapes and the people involved, we see a monster being created in Tyler because of how he's been treated. Whether he shot Alex and the story is now leading to him taking revenge one by one (either for himself because they treated him like crap or for Hannah because he says he loved her) or whether it's leading up to a school shooting, either way it's yet another sad story unfolding as a result of someone being treated poorly and, in this instance, even Hannah is to blame because without the tapes, Tyler would probably never have been set on that path. It's just SO interesting how everything is tied together. I also just loved it as an "unreliable narrator" story considering we only get to hear Hannah's side for the most part. Also LEEEENAAA! Yes, I agree with you completely on the hannah and her drama front. You are totally right about the drama thing. Remember on the rock when Tony talked to Clay about her constantly coming to him with all her drama? She never talks about that in her tapes so what else is she leaving out. We only hear what she wants us to hear and we only see little glimpses of what was going on in order to further her narrative. So interesting, Okay, done now. This comment is so long but I love talking about this story. It is just such a good show.

There are three sides to every story. In this story, there's the victim, the perpetrator, and the witness. It's easy to say that Hannah was the victim, Clay was the witness, and everyone else is the bad guy. Thing is though is that you can actually apply those titles to every single character. I feel many people were upset by the end because of this. All of the sudden, it's not so easy to call Justin, Jessica, Alex, etc. the bad guy, and it's not so easy to call Hannah an angel either. EVERYONE can be and is all three. YOU are the victim, perpetrator, and witness. It's what you can do to make the world a better place. This is why I like how John described it, a "call to action." I thought the show was very well done.

I didn't know that Alex shot himself? I thought that Alex got shot by someone. I heard a theory that Tyler shot Alex and that he's planning to kill everyone else that he had hanging in pictures. That's why Tyler took down Alex's picture in the end and had all those guns. Idk it's something I heard that might happen if there ever so happens to be a part 2 or season 2 to the show. Let me know your thoughts on it.

Also, one of the most important lessons of this story is that you shouldn't judge someone so easily. Yet, the majority of people still did with one character, and that is Bryce (the rapist). Now don't get me wrong, what he did was so disgusting, and my initial reaction made me feel so much rage and anger. Now that I've finished the show, I took a step back. There is a reason why Bryce never really got a back story. All we know is that his parents were out of town, he's a star athlete, and everyone likes him. But there is more to this character. What if he had a bad childhood? Maybe he was neglected by his parents. Maybe he was also bullied in school. Or worst of all, maybe he was, and could still be, molested/raped. Again, it's easy to say that he's the bad guy, and he is. What he did was inexcusable, but he does have a backstory, you just didn't see it.

Meghan, here's what I think happened. So I know at the end the teacher (or whatever he is) told the counselor that Alex had shot himself, well what IF it was actually TYLER that shot Alex, and made it look like a suicide???? Because Tyler bought the gun, and had all of the people's pictures hanging up at the end, and there is the clip of him removing Alex's picture. So I think, Tyler is planning on killing all of the students, starting with Alex, unfortunately for Tyler, Alex didn't die, and the next season, Tyler will probably start killing them all one by one, making them look like suicides. Alex will be in a coma the entire season up until the very last episode, where he will then reveal that it was actually Tyler this whole time. SHOOK.

I don't know if someone already said this... but Alex didn't kill himself...The guy that took the photos of everyone... HE HAD GUNS in his bedroom hidden... and he bought a pistol.... AND when he was in the photo room, there were photos of every person that was on the tape.He took down Alex's photo and then the scene cut.He killed Alex.

Glory Doodle Alex's dad is a cop and would keep a gun a gun at the house. He shot himself with his fathers gun. Tyler was planning a school shooting and took Alex's photo down because he no longer needed to be on the hit list.

Tyler isn't the only one that had guns. As the earlier comments said, Alex has a gun bc of his father and Justin also has a gun which he brought with him before his scene ended.

Ken Garcia I thought the same thing and it was interesting how Tyler went to the ally and bought what I can only assume was a gun from that guy... did he give that gun to Alex? Also Tyler had all the photos of the characters on the tapes hung on the wall and when we found out Alex died he took his picture down.... there is something there I just can't piece all the things together.

Either Tyler had something to do with Alex or he took Alex's picture down because he wasn't going to shoot him when he shoots up the school.

At the beginning, I disliked everyone but Clay. I though Hannah was awful for making the tapes. I felt she wanted people to feel guilty for something she had not yet done. I thought she purposely wanted to hurt people and then remove the possibility of forgiveness by commiting suicide. I wasn't sure if Hannah was good or bad. But then the final episodes and the editors' note gave me a new perspective. No one is fully good or bad, everything is a matter of perspective. While the whole show focused on what happened to Hannah, we still don't know what actually happened. We know the main events but the whole point of the tapes was to show how unreliable one's own perspective can be. We can be our own unreliable narrators and have negative impacts on others based on how we see ourselves. Personal issues can become someone elses burden if we choose not to deal with them. Hannah got everyone's unwanted issues dumped on her and it was too much for her to carry. She felt that suicide would not only stop her pain but also help alleviate everyone elses' issues. Suicide is often seen as something irrational and spontaneous. The show demystifies suicide by showing that it's a rational and planned decision
