This has truly been one of my hardest Drag Weeks. Steve Morris and I arrived at the hotel just before sunrise. Then the day began with the trailer breaking on the way from the hotel to the track! It could have been a disaster but fortunately the trailer stayed upright and we were able to get to the track. We ran the quickest time of day three, but only by a small amount. We are still in the lead of Drag Week. Make sure you watch us on the Hot Rod Drag Week live stream.
Byron Dragway was kind to some and bad to others. Alex Taylor did great, Dave Schroeder did okay but had some valve train issues to fix, but the worst news was that Sick Week winner Stefan Gustafsson is out. That means my main competitor is Sweden's Michael Westberg in the flying Chevy S10 truck.

Tom's car and engine is also the BEST advertising AND testbed Steve can have out there, so it's a big deal for Steve too, other than having fun. And he has already sold at least 3 other SMX's to others (Rosenstangel, Groebner and one more iirc), so it is working. Plus the one in his own wagon car.

Tom, Unbelievable, talk about real reality tv. I'm like at the edge of my seat, every day u and Steve leave us with a cliffhanger! Like who shot JR, okay I'm dating myself. Only thing I can say is after the win, u and Steve are going to need to go someplace quite for a week, someplace with turquoise water, white sand, palm trees and cold beer to decompress. And no, no jet boats!!!

Tbh if a trailer snaps like that, its better to just have that towed than to risky safety-prone welding on the road. A trailer falling off like that is a serious danger for anyone coming the other way.

Drag week should be a test of the car, not the trailer. I don't see a reason to disqualify someone for their trailer not making it to the track in tow by the race car. Maybe limit it to one tow so you don't get someone playing the grey area and hiring a rig to tow their stuff from track to track.

Looks like the trailer tongue failed due to stress cracking, that's why we plate both sides of the junction of the frame extension and the tongue.

I know the big tire has a lot to do with it but watching Cleetus struggle so much with Mullet to get consistently in the sixes, then the Swedish guys come in and casually run mid sixes like it's their job. Damned impressive.

Just to be clear (and I don’t think you meant it this way) they aren’t and don’t just “casually” run sixes. They know exactly what they are doing to get the cars to go in the sixes although it may appear easy, it’s not.

The hitch was still attached to the ball but for safety there should be safety chains. Wouldn't have changed anything here though, but you will get a ticket.

Seeing mirages while driving is real. As truck driver I would see workers in the road that weren't there. You also get road hypnosis or white line fever

Sorry for your trailer problems. Thanks for the video. I’ve seen a lot of small drag vehicle trailers that are too narrow, overloaded, and have large heavy spare tires mounted too high and too wide. Many of the spare tires are in line with or outside the trailer tires causing huge twisting (torsional) loads on the trailer. Also during turns there are large centrifugal forces that can cause trailers to twist and in some cases tip over. I think in your case the high heavy tires look like they would cause the trailer to gallop causing high compression and tension stresses on the trailer. All heavy loads should be above the trailer axle and between the trailer tires.
