So this is a moment I will always remember. I wasn't originally gonna make a video talking about it, but after all this time, I wanted to share the story of what happened to my wood chip truck. So much could have been different in what happened this day, and I am so glad it wasn't worse in the end.

Also make sure you have the correct type of extinguisher, as different fires require different extinguishing media, fires in trucking are fairly common and a real threat.

I always find it incredibly rude how people behave really annoyed when an accident has happened. These days almost nobody helps you out and most people are complaining and shouting. Though whenever something happens to them, it is of the utmost importance. Well done Cassie, you couldn't have responded better. Glad to hear you and the dogs are okay!

One major problem with modern trucks at least here in the USA is the DPF Systems in the exhaust. They operate much hotter than a simple traditional muffler. This creates a massive increased risk of fire. Exhaust used to run colder than the flashpoint of diesel fuel. Nowadays thanks to environmental issues the exhaust is hotter than diesels flashpoint. So now if you crash, and are too injured to get away, you have a greater risk of burning to death. This is a major reason I drive a 1984 model year Peterbilt. Love the channel. Keep up the great work.
@neggym
@neggym Жыл бұрын
It’s the same here in Europe. The few old trucks left, that doesn’t have a DPF aren’t allowed driving in the cities. So therefore those are soon long gone. But just out of curiosity. When Cassie says she was on the highway, isn’t that the wrong term? Wouldn’t freeway be more accurate?
@Dutch3DMaster
@Dutch3DMaster Жыл бұрын
@@neggym I think this is a British-English versus an American-English thing. Highway might be common in the UK, just like you are quicker to be on the motorway there when on a highway, whereas a highway could be called a freeway in the US. (And I see there being a capability of this being different between Australian-English and New-Zealand-English as well). It's like how I was taught in school that there's no middle school in the US, but as it turns out, that can vary from state to state :P .

One of our car transporters caught on the motorway, a few years later I had the sister truck do exactly the same thing. They burn really well when there are 11 cars on board. I could only grab a bag of clothes, phone and sat nav, everything else went up in flames. Two videos of the other truck burning on youtube but luckily none of mine.

Our tractors came without even a place for extinguishers. bolted on huge ones with custom holders for fire suppression, because fire are common in the fields during harvest. we had couple fires, but still did not loose any equipment. one was combine ac clutch fire, stock fire bottle fixed that. And another one was unknown fire source in the filed when we were cutting. there were not enough bottles of course, because it spread a bit before anyone noticed. Cut filed around it and tilled the ground to control it. half of the field burned because it took a while to get the ground working equipment and firefighters were afraid to go close to the fire with their truck to douse it, to risk loosing their firetruck. we have no such safeguards and our guys just went practically on the fire with the tractor :D I was not there for that field fire so it might have added to being short handed to firefighting (had dentist appointment that day). no actual losses except half of work day lost.

WOW, Cassie that was crazy what happened to you and your truck. Enjoyed listening to you explain what happened. Your right about the electrical problems like wiring in the truck. It can be a nightmare to try and repair. If the problem is not repaired correctly, the same issue could very well happen again. Your quick reaction to the fire probably saved the truck from going up in flames Cassie 😲 Your fire extinguisher might have been small, But it saved the rest of your truck. Cassie, I have said this before in a comment, you have great skills Cassie and here we are informing you have proven yourself again that you belong behind the wheel of a truck doing what you were born to do🥰🥰 Cassie thanks for sharing with us, I always love watching your videos and explaining what's happening. While waiting on a metro once on a metrostation that is situated in between a 4 lane highway and a 6 lane highway, I see a truck wanting to leave the highway through an offramp. Right near the lanes splitting I see a massive dust cloud and about a second later heard the sound as if a bomb went off, and right after saw (and heard) the whole combination shaking while coming to a violent standstill (with the characteristic howling sound of full brake application). A tire had blown and it had severed the brake lines, causing almost all wheels to suffer full brake application (obviously it is just 1 set of wheels due to cross-connected pressure drums). Luckily no one hit the truck, but it was right in the middle of 2 lanes of the off-ramp. People were honking at the driver as if the driver could help it (next to some of the people doing that who should've been more than capable of having seen and heard what happened. With some of the stuff we load on trucks here that can catch fire, either due to drifting off into vents or getting on hot parts, it can be common here to have a conveyor-belt exit point be made to fit the truck's loading area, with rubber slabs between the exit and the truck itself, so dust has a harder time to accumulate on parts where you don't want it. With driving school (regular car) we drove around in an industrial area a lot and ended up between a truck and saw a big hose on the side of a factory building turn outwards towards the truck, and my driving instructor was like "Put the car in reverse, we're going to wait a good amount of meters back, otherwise we're covered in brown-black dust" (it was a cacao-processing plant).

3/4 years ago my truck caught fire. fortunately i was in the park, and i realized that was an eleftrical problem, and i detached the battery. i saved the truck, but rewiring all the truck costed me a lot. the cause? it is a second hand truck, and the idiot that had the truck before me, connected a device, in a very bad way, to the battery without a fuse. a wire lost its cover, touched the frame and shortcircuited the battery.

Hey Cassie! Glad you're okay and keeping well ;-) What a great story, and thank you for sharing. I had a Volvo F7 artic catch fire on me once, turbo oil feed pipe split!! I went to change gear and a flame came out of the gaiter......the guy following me said the flames were 12 feet high and scorched the trailer headboard, lucky I was empty. No fire extinguisher, just threw dirt off the side of the road under the cab. One of my fav stories haha!! Have a great xmas, best wishes from Isle of Wight

Thanks for sharing this in detail, I was following your story back then and had a general idea what had happened, but its nice to hear it with more info. Good job you reacted quickly :) In my opinion, you need a bigger fire extinguisher to have a little chance to save the truck. If you catch it on time, and if it is an electrical fire, and you can disconnect the batteries, maybe you can save it. I had a fire starting from a faulty wheel bearing. The whole hub, the rim, everything there was glowing yellow-red, and that heat repeatedly lit the tire. I had 2 big fire extinguishers and a big bottle of water. It was not enough to cool it down, and eventually the fire extinguishers run out. I tried to control the fire and put it out with small bursts, to gain some time till the fire truck appears. Unfortunately it happened in the middle of nowhere.... I got to the point where I had to uncouple the trailer and drive forward with the truck. So if it is a fire like this, or when the cargo catches on fire, you don`t have any chance putting it out with manual extinguishers.

Sounds like you had a wiring Lume vault. And the power was shooting out you electrical suzi. Hindsight you should have disconnected your batteries. I know of a electrical fault fire. When a wire in the window wiper motor had worn away. Plus I was on the Holyhead to Dublin ferry. When a Dixon lorry went on fire when the driver left a inverter in his 12 volt charger. These things happen in life in general. And you should never beat yourself up over things you have no control over. You are young. And when you get to my age. You learn to shrug your shoulders and realise shit happens. Keep on trucking.

Then again, if it was a wood chip load properly on fire, an extinguisher would do nothing. But electrical fires, keeping them from igniting the fuel, for that really necessary. You did all you could in that situation, but your employer sounds a bit weird.

you need to check your gauges to keep an eye on your air supply... too low of air supply can cause your trailer brakes to come on... checking your mirrors you're going to see your brakes smoking... you need to stop before they catch on fire!

That Truck Fire In Trucker Cassie’s Truck Would Have Been Dangerous For Her Two Dogs

Well, if a fire in the wood chip truck seems bad, just be glad it didn't happen when you were driving the poop truck. Now that would have been awful! A harrowing story, but another great video.

Idag körde lastbil till Trosa och min vänster fram däck hade exploderat, jag hade tur att på vänster linje var ingen bil, det var så stark att mina batteri kablar var förstörd.

Going in a downgrade and you're not going in a low enough gear using excessive braking can cause your air supply to drop too low... check your gauges... Low Air Supply can make your trailer brakes come on... brakes get hot they smoke... check your mirrors!

I am shocked that Cassie did not make a point to learn who the trucker that saved her truck was. If someone had saved my bacon in this manner, and I knew who they drove for, I would have made it my mission in life to find them again and thank them profusely. This is a mystery to me, as Cassie seems so nice in general.
