My Uncle's Vintage Nitro Rc Boat - Rebuilding Black Label

I had no memories of that boat running when i was a little boy, but I played and marveled at that boat for many many hours. It felt great to finally see it running! I know this is quite a bit different to what I'm used to display here on KZfaq, but it's still summer, and it means a lot to me. I'm happy i took on the challenge. The only part I'm sort of disappointed in, is the Tupperware to waterproof the receiver. Yes, it works, but it looks a bit goofy to be 100% honest with you all. But it's the best i could do with the limited budget.
Now, to get back to regular content... Next week, expect to see a running Project Meteor 2! :D

I have my uncles vintage boat too! Mine is exactly like yours, but the body is a different paint job. Ever since a little kid I always thought it was cool, and I would push it around in the pool. Thanks for the video, I really want to rebuild mine.

Good work. I have one identical! Ive been holding onto it since i was a kid, me and my friends got it from an antique shop. I will actually fix it soon 😂

I love this story! Very cool vintage nitro tunnel hull. Get a jar of silicone conformal coating, remove the cover from the receiver and brush on both sides of the circuit board, coating everything but the pins for the servos. I do that with all my boat receivers, this has never failed me and I don't even put them in a waterproof radio box. Just velcro them inside somewhere. Thanks for sharing...

Hey brother! So cool to see that! Has been years since I've seen an old school nitro outboard! That's a great hull too! Keep it alive!!!!! I miss mine but that was 30 yrs ago! Lol! I'm looking forward to winter at this point to see the new snowmobile stuff! Rock on my friend! 🤘🤘

Just had to comment even before the video ended! I love the Black Label paint scheme! I have an MRP Mach 1 3.5 tunnel haul brand new in the box with a brand new 3.5 K&B 4 it plus a tune pipe conversion! I have one other MRP Mach 1 with the offset cabin and cowling for oval racing only I have had it to 72.3 miles an hour on a sport handheld radar gun! On 20% Nitro. Watching this video and a couple of others I'm going to have to dust these puppies off and go have some more fun with them especially the new MRP Mach One which is already been painted in fire engine red the top deck that is! Thanks for the video again very nostalgic

Cool re-build to your uncle's RC boat. I had a Prather Tunnel Hull Hydro sometime in the 1980s, with an epoxy fiberglass hull with the upper hull already fastened at the factory. The servos and receiver were nicely packed in a watertight container with a 1/8th inch thick Lexan cover, that was held in place with about a dozen machine screws - it never leaked, even after some serious flips and semi submersions. Mine was powered by a K&B 7.5cc engine that I ran on 25% nitro fuel and the boat was quite fast. I don't know how fast as there were no GPS attachments then to calculate speed, but it was very quick and handled well. I sold it eventually and 5 years ago I picked up a Traxxas 36" DCB M41Tunnel Hull, but electric powered. It has a brushless motor with (2) 11.1 volt Lipo batteries. It does have a GPS attached and I have recorded over 53 mph, which I know is a bit faster than the old gas powered one. RC boats are great fun, even for an oldster like me!

Thats a nice story! I'm not a boat guy personally, but it was a fun project to put together. I would have liked to use the stock lexan seal for the electronics, but it was just too far gone. If the budget would have been higher I would have put a bit more thought into it and maybe even redesign the entire electronic pod. But the goal was to make it run again. And for that, its a sucess

Did u Check if it has a second tuning screw on the throttle side of the carby my boat has a finger adjustable one then there is one in the side of the throttle piece of the carby if you aren't sure where I mean I can make a 30 sec video to show you

The only screw on the lever side holds the carb lever on place. As odd as it seems, i think this model only has one screw

awesome boat.... i have one very similar that i have never taken to water lol .... if whomever reads this please understand im not smart enough to speak more than one language please fogive me for asking something thats none of my business.... the man operating the boat in the end.... hes the uncle? also if he was then was it you whom restored it for him? im sorry im nosey i love the boat mine is painted totally different i like yours much better..... hello an God bless yall from Arkansas

Yes, i restored the boat for my uncle. (The man driving at the end of the video.) He has had it for a long time but I never saw it run, so I had to put it back together for him!
