It is not true that non-refrigerated probiotics are "dead" and refigerated ones are "alive." In fact, tge refrigerated ones are often shipped and stored in non-refrigerated conditions before they reach the refridgerator of your health food store (source, workers at supplement/vitamin shops). They are all formulated to be shelf stable (need to be stored at room temp in dry conditions). The cooler temp of refrigerator does extend the bacterial life though. But it is not necessary to life for probiotics in shelf-stable formulations.

Thank you so much for this informative video, Tamara! It was really fun to see what you take :D I just love all of your videos haha! Moon Juice has a powder form of the Tremella mushroom - they call it vegan collagen haha! I can really relate to your daughter's story. Too much of anything can be bad. For the last 7 years, I was a strict vegan and ate mostly raw fruits and vegetables, thinking that this was healing to the body. Raw vegans believe that they are invincible on this diet. Contrary to my belief, I had low bone density (I'm in my 30s). This really made me realize that calcium and many other nutrients from greens are poorly absorbed. So I've been watching your nutritional video to take some notes! It would be great to see more health/diet content from you

Thanks for all the info ! I really would like to look into taking a mushroom supplement. I don’t take Calcium (mineral form) either, because of the increased risk of heart attack. I was taking a plant derived calcium for a while, but it’s very expensive, so discontinued it. I take D3 with K2, and magnesium. Hoping that will help my bone health. I also take B12 & B Complex, a good fish oil, New Chapter, but have also taken the Nordic Naturals, and may go back to that brand. I need to find a good probiotic, and just may use your method, to get the best variety of strains. I’ve been using the unrefrigerated types, and they don’t seem to help much. I actually need to rethink & update my supplements, so thank you for making this video. Got me to think more about my health again. ☺️💜☺️

I know we all have a story to tell on the supplements we take. I relate to most of the vitamins, supplements you are taking, like D3/K2, Omega 3 wild caught, C, B12, and a few others. I also take magnesium (600mg), calcium Citrate about 800mg. I can not get enough calcium from food (I drink 2 cups coffee at day), Over 6 months again I had a scan of my arteries had too much plaque had a Angio-plasty in the hosptial, came out with no problems. I quit taking calcium supplements as I have the same info you have about how bad they are, it's liking putting cement in your arteries. Sadly I got severe pain in my chest bone, so I started taking calcium citrate instead, less mg than I used to take, hoping to get most of my calicium from food. That did the trick, my chest pain went away. I drink 1 cup of Kefir in the morning, isn't that a probiotic? If not I eat low-fat greek yogurt, I could go on but I really enjoyed your reporting on all the products you researched for this video. I will look more into.(I'm 72). So far, so good.Thank you for this video, You are the best!!

I take a lion’s mane tincture every morning and drink chaga tea often. I do think the lion’s mane helps me with energy and focus. I like the taste of chaga tea - very earthy and I either drink it plain or put it right on with my morning coffee. I also have some reishi tea that I drink now and then, but it takes longer to brew and at a higher water temp. Medicinal mushrooms are becoming more and more widely used.

I agree with you on most of your supplements. I will have to say that the vitamin C ascorbic acid is only the outer shell of the whole molecule and usually derive from GMO corn starch. You’re way better off going with a whole Food vitamin C such as Camu powder or acerola cherry powder. Ascorbic acid is very good as a therapeutic for IV use for cancer. I also take Nordic natural cod liver oil and I was taking 5000 IUs of vitamin D and I had my blood work done and my D levels were too high. My doctor told me to cut back on the vitamin D supplements.
@allison471

@Julie Larson curious to know what your vitamin D level was that says it's too high, if you wouldn't mind sharing? Conventional medicine will say 20-40ng/ml is fine but Functional medicine Drs will say optimal vitamin D levels the higher the better like 80-100. I guess it also depends what's best for each individual depending on health issues like with autoimmune diseases etc... My experience is the higher the better for me I have autoimmune issues and was severely deficient about 10 years ago and now I'm optimal at a 95 and when severely deficient I was a 9 and felt like death!

I knew from your 1st comment it definitely sounded like you know your stuff and sounds like we have a lot in common and are on the same page. I know conventional medicine Drs can put fear in people about vitamins and nutrients and that's why I asked about your vitamin D level, so thank you! It's my understanding vitamin D toxicity is very rare but I guess it does happen through super high doses on a daily basis from my research and that of my Functional medicine Dr. Also when I went to my MD and he told me my vitamin D level was great and super impressed he asked what brand and form I was using! Lol I was shocked he didn't tell me it was too high. I guess 95 is my sweet spot 😊

I take a lot of the supplements you do. I take a liquid salmon oil every day from wild caught salmon. It has made a huge difference. My latest discovery is Seed propiotics. They are amazing. I have tried so many other good brands but these are the best! Completely wiped out every gut issue. I have had so many diverticulitis attacks in the last several years and they were getting more and more frequent. My doctor wanted to do surgery but I kept putting it off. I have been taking Seed for a little over a year and my diverticulitis has not flared up at all since I started. My entire gut is working so much better. Very good video. Yes, in Minnesota many are deficient in this vitamin due to lack of sunlight at times with the seasonal changes. Also with using so much sunscreen the natural Vitamin D cannot get into our bodies. I make sure that I get 15-30 minutes direct sunlight to my face prior to sunscreen and this is also wonderful for mental health and natural Vitamin D. One big mineral supplement that directly involves over 400 body processes along with sleep and anxiety reduction is Magnesium. As a nurse I find that not many physicians etc draw labs on magnesium levels when it is one of the most important minerals to our bodies. Years past it was easily obtained in the foods we eat based on the mineral enriched soil foods were raised in. Now that is not the case for most all vegetables and soil raised food. Magnesium comes in several forms. Magnesium citrate may cause some laxative type effects since the citrate absorbs more water in the bowels. Magnesium glycinate is absorbed easier. As always research what is best for yourself. Something else that I add is NAC (N-acetyl-L-Cysteine) and Zinc. It helps with antioxidant support, cellular health and immune support. With all supplements look for the USP on the label meaning it has been dietary supplement verified here in the US.

Great info! Thank you for sharing! I will ask for a magnesium test for sure. I have taken it on and off for occasional leg cramps or sleep but I think I might be getting enough with my green smoothies with organic greens...One of the things I do for sleep is walk my pup to the east facing beach in the mornign and let the mornign sun hit my face and eyes with no sunscreen. Not only does this hopefully help with vitamin D but it helps reset my circadian rythm and has been helpful for mood and sleep. All bets are off in the winter though and I am forced to pull out my SAD light therapy.

Tamara, thanks for all the info shared. Two Q’s and a comment: I also take liposomal C & have for years. I was instructed to take it 1st thing in the am on an empty stomach so it gets right into the gut. I see you take yours after a meal? 2nd Q: does taking B12 in the evening have any effect on your sleep ability? Interesting about the Liposomal Vitamin C...the directions on my package say it can be taken with or without food. B12 has not impacted my sleep...but you are the second person to mention that. The only reason I don't take it in the morning is that my understanding is it should not be taken at the same time as Vit C, which I take in the morning. And thank you for reminding me about Andrew Weil! I'll explore his information on mushrooms for sure!

From my research i found that bioavailability of glutathione supplements is low. N-Acetyl-Cysteine and Glycine supplements together (precursors to glutathione) raise glutathione levels more effectively than glutathione supplements themselves, from what studies I have seen.

Sorry-- I missed the "liposomal form" of glutathione mentioned. Liposomal form has been found to be well-absorbed. But it might be more cost-effective to supplement with NAC and glycine instead to raise glutathione levels, as liposomal glutathione is quite expensive, and NAC and glycine are not.

I take niacinamide but would like to check out the NMN. Also for hair growth, for me there is nothing better, inexpensive or works as well as pumpkin seed oil. I suffered from quite a lot of hair loss due to a period of high stress.Having always had thick hair, it became very scary. I heard about pumpkin seed oil and with nothing to lose, gave it a try. I parted my hair and rubbed the oil along the part and a little goes a long way. Let it stay there about 3 to 4 hours then wash out. Took only 3 weeks until I saw quite a bit of growth. I now only use it every 6 weeks for a couple of weeks to ensure and support the hair growth.

There is actually a study (or more than one) on verisol collagen in particular but there are some on ingesting collagen as well. It does do some good. Supplements I take: Magnesium Citrate (I have a history of tachychardia and a nurse in the ER told me to give it a try. Sad he had to whisper that to me, because he could have gotten into trouble for suggesting it. I was there with my second bout of Tach within a few months) That was 15 years ago and I never had another tach episode. I also take Vitamin C, twice a day. B Complex. Probiotic. D3/K2 (I test low in D3 so much that even with supplements I have to do the RX D3 things once every 5-8 years or so. Midwestern living!). I take Omega3s occasionally and try to eat a lot of fish. I'm starting to have serious arthritis issues in one hand and one foot so I'm considering starting glucosamine/chondroitin to see if that helps. I also ingest a collagen supplement once a day, also hoping that helps my arthritis a little.

I like this video. Lots of good recommendations. I must first say that I tend to rotate my supplements. There are a few that are anchor supplements that I take because they are essential, work well with my body, and produce consistent results: Magnesium (in the form of OxyFlush), Probiotics (both tablet and whole/live foods like fermented sauerkraut), B-12 spray, Omega 3's (not everyday), Eye Vitamins, and Vitamin K (triple play), and Greska's Carbon 60. I have other supplements that I rotate as needed including collagen powder and some herbs. I have learned to not get locked into certain supplements. I have taken NMN before but didn't feel it was worth the cost. I have tried many others - I am always open minded, but I realize that a good whole food diet is always primary. I am 65 and have not been to a 'medical doctor' since leaving the military in the late 80's. I have evolved a very different life than most sedentary people. I have learned to trust my instincts and intuition when it comes to food, exercise, and supplements. Experiment and see what works for you - people are very different.

@touchofclass6415
@touchofclass6415 Жыл бұрын
@@Jennyleeceo it is trimethylglycine which is found in the body in the form of amino acids. It is in beets and spinach but not too many foods contain it. The liver is the main organ that produces this acid, and it has many health benefits. It is recommended to take the same mg amount as you take of the NMN. In order for the body to produce NAD it requires a methylation process which the TMG supports. It is a very affordable supplement and also helps with energy which is why many bodybuilders take it. I do not eat meat , now for many years, so B12 is something I definitely need to be on regularly, and probiotic is something I have taken every day, and have given to my kids as well. I to know what do you do for protein, as women get older, especially in menopausal, they use muscle mass, what do you take for protein, I'm 58, and I have been a advocate for my health care, taken care of wellness for myself since 16, of age, started working in a health store, and studied alot of theses supplements early on in life. Which I feel have contributed to me looking alot younger than my age. Great job 👏 👍

However, I left you on and heard you mention that it’s a no-no to take fish oil while on blood thinners. I had a borderline cholesterol reading and decided to add fish oil supplements (I’ll do anything for gummies). I guess I was taking them daily for about two weeks. When I heard what you said, I looked it up and the reason is the fish oil thins your blood also and can result in several unintended side effects like upset stomach, diarrhea, and nausea, all of which was happening to me with increasing frequency. So I stopped and so did the symptoms. So I have you to thank for that alert! 😊

If I could go back in time to when I was peri menopausal I would take a steroid precursor hormone. And I would definitely stay on the birth control pill 24/7 before my thirties. So the pill through 35 and then pregnenolone or another precursor after 35 until menopause. And then likely HRT. But since I didn’t do that consistently I’m now on HRT with no end in sight. I felt like I had decent nutrition, exercised, minimized stress, blah blah blah yet still ended up with osteopenia around 40 which is pretty much insane. Chlorella contains B12, along with chlorophyll, proteins, and a ton of vitamins and minerals, + potent heavy metals chelator (the B12 present in spirulina is a pseudo vitamin, which is not effective in humans, unfortunately, that's spirulina 's only downside, chlorella doesn't have that problem). Curcumin (the main compound found in turmeric) is one of the most potent anti-inflammatory compounds in nature (most good supplements mix it with black pepper, which increases its potency). Alpha lipoic acid is already a potent antioxidant in and on itself, but it has the ability of making all other antioxidants more available, including glutathione and coenzyme Q10, it's kind of an "all antioxidants booster". Speaking of glutathione, NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) busts substantially its production in the liver. Nutritional yeast (exclusively non fortified, stay away from the fortified ones) is a great addition as well, as it naturally contains all B vitamins (except B12, which is in chlorella). Berberine is a potent bad cholesterol and triglycerides lowering compound.

I am a Chemist. The lady s video is absolutely correct,you need to supplement vitamin C as unless you are growing your own fruit & veg and eating them raw immediately on picking them you will not get much vitamin c . Vit C breaks down & easily degrades just by exposure to air & 40 deg temperatures.You are completely misinformed. L-Ascorbic Acid is the chemical name of vitamin c molecule in nature & not all L-Ascorbic Acid ( vitamin C) supplements are from Corn! Vitamin C unfortunately needs to be supplemented n matter how healthy your diet is as the amount of vitamin c in natural food is usually around 100mg and buying supermarket fruit & veg depended on their storage depletes vitamin c from natural food even further so you will need to eat kilos of vitamin c rich food to get about 1000mg of Vitamin C.
