People joke all the time about how stressful a wedding can be. Well guess what? THEY'RE RIGHT! Joanna is the first person in her family to get married in the USA and it's been... a culture shock.

Joanna, I understand. My wedding was 16 years ago, and it nearly killed me with stress. My family is Mexican, and every third cousin was invited. My husband is white, and comes from a small family. When it was time to take pictures of the bride and groom’s family, his 13 relatives fit neatly in the frame. My family was 6 rows deep with people in the back standing on chairs, and those down in front were laying on the grass. There were over 70 people in my family portrait! (And only those who lived locally came) The photographer had to stand on a ladder to get everyone in frame. It’s the worst wedding photo ever! I got married the same year that “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” came out. My mother-in-law felt like my wedding was the Mexican version. Language that she didn’t understand, Mariachi music, everyone wanted to hug her when she was introduced to them. It was very overwhelming for her. She actually started to cry, and they weren’t tears of joy. I invited just over 500 people. 284 guests came. It was a huge, loud gathering of Latinos. If you weren’t Latino, you were in the minority. It was fun, but I was still fixing the seating chart at 4am the day of. My mom was up late with me, and accidentally burned a huge hole in my veil. We had to go to the bridal shop the morning of the wedding to get a new one. I’ll never forget it. Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials. I’m sure you’ll survive it, and have wonderful memories.

I can kind of relate with you. I am from Guadalajara and my boyfriend was born and raised in the US. Neither him or his family has ever even been outside of the US. I always dreamed my wedding to be in México, since most if not all of my family members live there, but I don't think my boyfriend's family would even want to go (he has 6 siblings and like 9 nieces and nephews already) its scary I won't be able to handle both cultures.

Honestly idk how wedding can last just for 2 or 4 hours, like wtf. In México our weddings start in the afternoon and usually we stay until 6 or 7 am of the next day, then we go to our houses take a shower and come back at maybe 11am or 12pm for the "recalentado". We know how to party. lmao

I'm from Argentina, and in here we do the same, except from the "recalentado" part, which, I'll be honest, SOUNDS AWESOME. But yeah, ceremony at 7pm and partying until 6am! Breakfast at the wedding (Usually mate or coffee) and THEN we begin to go home.

It used ro be like that in Colombia, but this turned into a business, so it's getting super expensive and we're obligated to finish them at a certain time, early. Unless of yourse you want to pay more and there's availability of space. At least el caldito still exists if the wedding is at night.

In Venezuela they are more of the style: Wedding: 4-6 pm Party: 6 pm - 7 am Sancocho / barbecue / pool: 8am - 2 pm day after the wedding. Pick up everything because club rental has expired: 4 - 6 pm. The newly married are of two types, those who stay, and those who disappear in the middle of the party leaving the celebration for family and friends.

"TORNABODA" !!!!! For my wedding, we stayed an hour over the time limit and had to be warned that if we stayed longer, we'd get charged. So we left/ food, booze and ppl. And continued the party at my grandmas house. I opened gifts in my veil in the middle of her living room. Partied till the next morning when it was time to leave for our honeymoon.

Well... It's not a horror wedding story but whatever. I am Venezuelan and I left last year and moved to Colombia with my boyfriend. My whole family is still in Venezuela and my brother was getting married May 5th (The church one, the civil one was April 28th) And I had my heart broken into pieces because I couldn't afford to go. It was early February and I got a decent job. My boyfriend was the one who had to take care of every penny he made for us to live, because we knew I just HAD TO GO to my brothers wedding (Only brother, btw) I saved money like I've never saved before. We ate a lot less, bought cheap shit and worked a lot. There were moments I wasn't sure I was going to make it because it was expensive and I couldn't just go through the border (I live far from it) Finally 10 days before the date I wanted (cheapest flight) I got the money and got to surprise my brother and all my family (They didn't know) My mom almost faints and my dad looked as if he saw a ghost (We didn't really got the chance to say good bye when I left) And I had the most amazing two weeks back home and got to see my brother getting married. So be happy that you have your family with you on that amazing day. I wish you the best

I was an event planner and Bridezillas are awful, but the mother of the brides are even scarier! This one wedding the previous event manager was fired so I took over and the mom and the bride came right over. They were stressing and were making all these demands and didn't think I had the touch cause I was a man. They didn't exactly say that was the reason, but I knew. I kinda called them sexist and they flipped their shit. One of the waitresses came over and acted like she was going to take over and they felt better. So, the day of the wedding happens and the holy waitress wasn't there. So I took over since I knew what I was doing. The wedding and the reception went perfect. The mom thanked me so much and apologized for stressing out so much and I told her that it was completely understandable. We get it that it's your day. We understand how crazy it gets and how fucked up the system is. Just remember that it'll all be over soon and you'll feel a lot of weight taken off your shoulders. Sending best wishes, Joanna! P.S. Fuck Brittany.

I planned my sister’s wedding. I told everyone to show up on time because I didn’t want anyone to interrupt the ceremony since it was going to promptly start on time. The day of the wedding, my sister’s maid of honor was late and we had no way to find her. On top of that, my sister was running late. I didn’t want to call my sister to make her stressed, so I was panicking throughout the church. Meanwhile, my soon to be brother-in-law was sweating bullets. Turns out, the maid of honor was with my sister the ENTIRE TIME and did not let me know. I was having multiple heart attacks while my sister was relaxing and hanging out. I make sure to remind her that she owes me BIG TIME.

Hi, Yes, I was a bridesmaid for my sister's wedding and my cousin's wedding. I, too am a Latina, or of Hispanic heritage, so, I know the struggle in that regard. But generally speaking, wedding planning is stressful. There's so many moving parts and details to consider. And the most annoying part is when people don't listen. A bride isn't being unreasonable to stress out because people don't know how to work as a team. Even when the bridal party works as a team to put a wedding together, it is stressful, then imagine what it's like when nobody listens, or is on the same page... ughhhh! Oh, then your family tells you they're gonna "help" you to pay for the wedding, but really, it's just an excuse for them to have what THEY want. It's not really a gift if it comes with conditions. UGH!

Ikr :/ I'm having MAYOR problems getting everything ready for my wedding. I'm starting the planning and GIIIIIIIRL everything is toó expensive!! I had to get creative with some stuff... And at sometimes just think "What if I just elope?" And then I realize I can't xD because my mexican family will go crazy if I do. I'm not doing a religious ceremony, and I'm just inviting very close people, not even the whole family, but you know when you are latino, you have this bunch of tíos y tías that are not even tíos ni tías, but you have to invite them any way bc they are close... Like girl, I feel you T-T

So, I only cried actual tears over my wedding twice, which is kind of impressive since I'm a very emotional person. The first time was after the big fight I had with my mother because I wasn't going to let her plan it for me, and the second was after the rehearsal, when we were all heading to the rehearsal dinner. I had started to rant to my husband about my mother, and he told me to chill. Instant meltdown on my part, and kind of hilarious, because during the required pre-marital counseling, the pastor literally told him the worst thing to say to me is calm down. Anyway, congratulations and best wishes, Joanna. ☺🎉

In a wedding of one of my friends relatives they got to the restaurant which had open gardens and that bullshit. So... after the meal, children started playing there, also there was an old man (i think it was the bride's grandpa) which didn't feel so good and went out a bit to see if he got better. After some minutes he stood up from the bench he sat on and started walking, immediately he fell "in plancha" in front of those children. Children started screaming and a young boy got there to help him stand up again. He never stood up again bc he died of a chardiac stop, if front of the children traumatising tem. I'd really like to be like him, fucking childrens lives up till the end of my life.

I told my husband, you can never divorce me because I'm not going thru this shit again! And we only had 80 people wedding! but like you, the juggling of having to deal with different cultures (I'm from Venezuela, with Italian parents, he is from the US with Italian parents - that obviously did not get the memo in how they do this in Europe) was the most stressful part. A close second was waiting for the RSVPs to come in.. in my head I keep hearing a "CHA-CHING!" sound everyone time one of those cards came in with a "YES, we will be there!" because that mean, our budget was taking a hit with the caterer. Regardless of all of it. It was the most fun party we ever been to - our family still talks about it after 5 years. I know you probably forgot all of that stress the day off and enjoyed yourself (saw your pictures on Instagram, and you looked beautiful and like you guys were having a blast!). Felicidades! y muchos años llenos de felicidad.

Jajaja...
