The net into which Bond and Madeline fell was announced early and is not as pointless there as you think. Such nets are stretched in buildings that are dilapidated. These nets are designed to catch falling stones from crumbling walls. This building was dilapidated, finally it was blown up in the last movie. So no random use of a net. Now you have learned something, I hope.

Without any other information I assumed it was a suicide prevention net. If too many die in one place they may put one up.
@peterkoester7358
@peterkoester7358 Жыл бұрын
The net was established earlier in the scene (Bond looks up at it, noting its presence) and its purpose is to catch the debris of the building as it is imploded to prevent it from falling into the Thames. As for where Madeline was hidden, you may not have caught the significance of it, but she was in the closet of what had been M (Dame Judy)'s office when MI6 was located in that building, so Blofeld put her there on purpose knowing Bond's relationship with the prior M would have made him head there - perhaps unconsciously. Looking forward to your reaction to "No Time to Die."

Helicopters can glide, it is called autorotation...if the engine stops, the rotor is seperated and turns by it´s own for a litte time.This is often enough to land for the pilot. And yes, some helicopters can even fly loopings like in this movie.

It was TOO good but that wasn't the reason they rejected it. Apparently the Radiohead song wasn't exclusively made for the movie or something like that so the studio couldn't put it for Oscar nomination so they demanded a new one by Sam Smith to release along the movie.

@@a.f9234 I think that was "Big Boots" which Radiohead considered as their Bond theme decades ago. They ended up fully producing Big Boots for the movie, but it was rejected because of that reason, it wasn't made exclusively for the movie. So Radiohead came back with Spectre - which damn... such a good song, but I'm glad it was rejected. Then it would have been attached to This damn movie.

It’s true that Radiohead were approached, but the song they submitted was one they had written years ago, and sadly they couldn’t use it due to copyright issues.. with time running out they then turned to Sam Smith, but once they had Sam locked in Radiohead came back with their track ‘Spectre’. Unfortunately due to timing, and already having Sam Smith on board, they couldn’t use Radiohead’s track :(

Great to rewatch this with you both, James Bond films try to do as many stunts for real as possible. The helicopter was the Red Bull stunt chopper flown by their pilot, while not actually over the people below, the barrel role and chopper maneuvers were really performed by the pilot. The net is used where a building like that has become structurally unsound, the net catches debris from the building and protects the demolition crew on lower floors. As to Madeline, she was hidden next to M's former office, arguably for maximum emotional impact but yes coincidence is undeniable :p

I can’t wait for Holden and Jen to watch how everything culminates in NTTD. James and Madeleine’s relationship in this one was really the driving force of it and was just the heart and soul of the entire film (way better than in Spectre by an infinite amount). This one also goes all out on the action but also goes all out on the focus between characters and the emotional/pure aspects of it all (something that some blockbusters today lack imo). It’s great and it’s always about “the world is at risk”, but for NTTD it’s the emotional stakes that make it hit home and much more intimate. That's what makes it differ from the previous ones to an extent. A very impactful end to Craig’s phenomenal run as Bond. Hope you guys enjoy it!

Fun fact: The speech Blofeld gives to Bond during the torture scene was lifted almost 100% verbatim from the first non-Fleming Bond novel, Colonel Sun, written by Kingsley Amis.
@HeatKingMedia
@HeatKingMedia Жыл бұрын
I read the original script for this movie like a year or two before it officially came out. There were several drafts and each draft's third/forth act (The Spectre HQ and London Sequences were all different.) For starters, in prevous drafts Blofeld was a much better developed character and wasn't Bond's official step-brother. In the draft I read, when Bond and Mandeline get to Blofeld's lair, after the whole computer control room sequence it leads to them playing a card game with Nuts that Bond and Blofeld played as kids with their step-father. There was no torture sequence originally. Blofeld explains that if Bond wins the game he'll let only Mandeline live but if he loses then both of them will die. During the game we get a lot of insight into their upbringing and how Blofeld watched Bond play this card game with his Dad Oberhauser. Blofeld was jealous and wanted to prove he coulld be just as good as a player so he practices it until he eventually takes on Bond with his Dad watching but Bond still wins and humilates Blofeld in his mind. He makes that the excuse for why he killed his own parents. BUT Bond then drops a bomb-shell and reveals that Oberhauser and his wife were simply people who looked after Orphans and that Blofeld wasn't his real son but that his parents were romanian spies who were killed by their own government when they were found out and Blofeld watched their executions as a child and Bond calls him a "Cuckoo". Blofeld wins the game in present time but Bond uses the explosive watch to escape. When they return to London there's no Bond teaming up with MI6 and friends. It just starts with C trying to activate nine eyes and Bond already waiting Casino Royale Intro style in his office. He kills him and then Blofeld revealed to be alive after the watch/base explosive causes a black-out in London with only the MI6 building still alit. Bond heads there where he has to rescue Mandeline just like in the finished film except when the helicopter crashes on the bridge, Blofeld walks out with a limb and kills several police officers who come to investigate the crash. Bond chases him up to the bridge and both have a shoot-out with Bond wounding him and walking away after he lets him live. M, Moneypenny and Q meanwhile just gather a bunch of veterns for a showdown with Spectre that never happens. In other drafts after Bond escapes from Blofeld in the base, he and Mandeline use the control room to contact Q who with Bond there uses him as a link to hack into Spectre's HQ systems and cause a self-destruct from all the way at home using only his laptop which would have been a reference to something he said back in Skyfall. The whole link with the other villains was also explained better with it being revealed that Le-Chiffre from Royale was Spectre's Money-Handler, White/Greene/Quantum being the Second In Command and Silva from Skyfall being Spectre's IT Specialist. The rings they all wore/wear is made from the material that comes from the Meteor located in the Spectre base. The original Spectre Meeting also had Blofeld speak entirely in German before switching to English to address James personally. When Bond confronted Mr. White there was extended dialogue revealing how White meat Blofeld back during a war and how Blofeld was a ruthless killer. Other drafts had Q captured by Spectre at the HQ with Bond, Q and Mandeline escaping together. At one point Monica's character was going to be revealed as a villain too but that got cut/changed in rewrites including M originally being revealed as a badguy working for Blofeld. He was going to play the role C ended up playing but Ralph Fiennes is it? made it clear when signing up for the role that he did not want to play a villain in the future so those plans got dashed and C was invented for that role. Overall, there was alot of changed things from the final draft to the final screenplay that they used with the only real improvement being M and Crew confronting and stopping C. Every other change was a huge wasted miss. The original Card game and previous villain roles and original Blofeld backstory should have been kept. Instead the fillm just fills so meh after what we got with Spectre. The action sequences feel tame, lifeless and very low stakes with the Opening being the only real crowd pleaser. Monica is wasted. Mr. Hinx is a fun henchman and the Train fight is cool but his character is wasted too and should have made a Jaws style return at the end. And the love story between Bond and Mandeline felt so forced. When people compare Spectre or Quantum together, I always go for Quantum because at least that has high fast paced action, a good soundtrack and a fun female lead and it doesnt' feel boring. Spectre feels like a movie that someone didn't want to make and it shows. I have no problem with it connecting to past films but the way its done just felt choppy as hell. Its a film that could have been more but for whatever reason it got butchered in the writing and its not like the writing is even that bad. Its just the last third of the film doesn't hold up at all and instead of trying to be a action movie comes across as a poor man's love story scaled down version for On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Fun fact: The day of the dead parade at the beginning of the movie was not a real celebration & invented by movie writers imagination. That was not how Mexicans celebrate Dia De Muertes. Yea, the Bond/Blofeld brother thing doesn't really work. I hate it personally because it makes the most significant story (On Her Majesty's Secret Service) between them impossible. That novel/film depends upon them never meeting, face to face, prior to that story. So, they opted to ignore the source material here and make them adopted brothers for no good reason. Thankfully, I loved No Time to Die and can move beyond my issues with this one, now that it's no longer Craig's final film.

I'm never a fan of the "It was me all along" sequel retcon trope but Christopher Waltz being the "me" in this case makes me forgive it completely, lol. Such a great actor and he's amazing at playing this type of role.

while some didn't enjoy this film as much as Skyfall (understandable) but I really liked it. I guarantee you will be crying during the next Bond film, and Craig's final performance as Bond. No Time To Die is amazing

I'm excited to see how you react to No Time To Die. No Time To Die is my favourite but I've heard a lot of people saying they were disappointed with it, so I am a bit curious. Also - not a spoiler but there is a specific part of this film that made me think of Nolan's Batman, I hope you'll catch it. You have caught similar things before, so we'll see.

The net was there because of MI6 is a construction zone. James had an idea of where Madeline would be, as in basically as far away from where he was. Mr White was in Casino and Quantum, he was the one who set up and killed Le Chiffre and Bond captured him at the end of Casino into the beginning of Quantum

Blofeld and Spectre were villains from the later Bond novels by Ian Fleming (and all of the Sean Connery Bond movies). Blofeld was NOT related to Bond in either of those (I agree that by claiming Javier Bardem was under SPECTRE, it sort of weakens him as a villain and would have preferred not having that linkage). If you haven’t seen the Connery Bond films you might give them a try, classic Bond, and a more unforced revealing of SPECTRE and its scope.

I agree about that plot-armour net catching them, in films as realistic as these, its the little things that can really take you out

This bond is really tough to get through, you can tell that Daniel wasn't in it because of his leg injury and the script is way too focused on connecting the films which feels so forced, easily my least favourite of the Craig era.

2:23 Well, that's what the Day of the Dead is about: death isn't seen as the end but as a cycle and on the Day of the Dead the ancestors come back to connect with their living descendents. That's actually not an uncommon belief in non-European cultures and possibly also excisted in prehistoric Europe that also includes some form of belief in reincarnation. Because the idea of linear history that also includes the time after death was a slow developing one that gradually changed around the time of antiquity. For example, in ancient China, it was the belief that the dead still resided on Earth as spirits sharing the dining table with the rest of the family. Then, as the concept of history emerged, it was also the concept of Heaven and Earth (tiāndì 天地) separating the world of the living and the world of the dead.

I've been re-watching the films and then watching your reactions right after. Leading up to No Time To Die which I still haven't seen. I REALLY enjoyed this film more than Skyfall. It gave me flashbacks to some of the Roger Moore Bond movies. The funny and comical bits in this film are just right, and by that I mean not over the top silly.
