Tess (my dog) and I discuss Workaway, the good, the bad and all the other adventures.
I've used Workaway for nearly a years worth of travel (8 Workaways), in this video I talk about:
- What hosts look for in a volunteer
- What kind of host you should look for
- Pros and Cons of Workaway
- Tips on how to make the most of it
My experience with my Nepalese host:

i was born in argentina and always wanted to do this but couldnt get out of the country. its been two months since im in italy, all alone, with only 18 years old, processing my citizenship and after im done with that, i will book the flight. i cant tell you how those clips made me feel. im so happy by just watching and so anxious to be in your place. this... is my dream, i look at it and i need to be there, in all of the countries that are calling, all the good and bad experiences calling me, all of hose languages that are calling me. i ecided i would take the time to let you know that u helped me decide, after literally so long of not knowing what i was gonna do with my life (still dont), what im gonna do until im satisfied and rich of different cultures. now i have a plan, and its to make the most out of it. finished the video crying.

Hey!! I just wanted to thank you for making such a great, helpful and inspiring video! Usually inspiring videos that talk about travel and such just show you all the things they saw and fancy places they went to.. Those videos just makes you think "ugh I wish i had their life" and basically exist to make you jealous! Yours on the contrary just motivates us to go out into the world, meet people and just live new experiences !! You encouraged me to contact hosts in Europe!! I'm supposed to have my first workaway in a farm from mid-february to the end of march in Cyprus and i can't wait!!! Thanks again and good luck on your next adventures!! :)

Since 1st staying in hostel few years ago I always wanna work in one. Recently I found about that there is such a thing as workaway and learn as much I can about it. 2 weeks ago I gave up another opportunity for full time job which I use truly enjoy and stay with my work agency. As I grow up and meet more and more people on my way I simply feel I must do that. Go away for longer time away work for some1, socialise with another culture and exchange the best that I have to offer. I think I will work "normally" over winter and prepare for new more intriguing and challenging but funny live in spring. Good video bro - very informative and with good vibes. Good luck on your future paths! :) How lucky we're today having all these opportunities. Back in f.e 19th century and further people often don't travel at all during whole life....

Hey Lauren, I completely understand. It is scary, but it's okay. It's okay to be scared. Honestly, I'm constantly scared when I go to a new Workaway or new country. Something I learned is what are you going to do about it? Give in to being scared and find excuses not to go, or conquer it? Just some practical advice, search for Workaways that have 100% rating and positive reviews. Just so you can get the feel for it and you know you'll be in a safe place. I've had arguments with my parents, my friends didn't understand what I was/am doing. But it's okay, it's my life and I'm doing what I want to do. I've had people apologise to me because they ended up seeing how happy and fulfilled I was. You got this Lauren :)

She's been in Perth the last two years so thought she'd finish her last year in Melbourne. If she settles there, we maybe looking at moving too. She'd love to do 3-6 months in the South of France... we'll see. Looks like it's just her and I for Christmas as Mal is away working. So it will be very quiet. Workaway it's a theatre maded from freemasonry to keep control on victims who are trying to escape human traffiking as prostitution or people who have to die because of cheating against brotherhood as speak with police against members of organisations. Mostly hosts are freemasons. In this way the "victims" will be followed and poisoned until can't keep or get a job because colleagues, customers or even on the street people are putting Chemical powders on the victim to make him breathe the gas released from the chemicals and skin absorption and food where possible. So the victim will escape, probably with no direction. But in the past he have been manipulate to research about workaway and the platform have been very good promoted. So the victim will remember that and will use this system to get help (food and accommodation) but really soon he will realise that the house is completely poisoned, that meals are served in wird ways and others workawayers if some, Will eat much as a kid and will not have showers but will go alone "for a walk" even under snowing nights and will came back after 40 minutes fresh as who just got a shower and with perfect hair. Then the victims will be leaved alone in the house and will listen that every body is in a hidden room underground having fun. The victim will not find the hidden door for the underground apartment. Also, the bedroom for victims have the gas tube connected to be activated only when victims are in the room and the bed is also full of poison so also the wash machine where victims wash them poisoned clothes and bed sheets. The countries without hosts are not without mafia but are legislations to that community mindset doesn't match with the workaway system, so is forbiden, as in Cuba, North Korea, Russia, but every country is collaborative each other in different ways. So.. Do your mind.

I liked your info, I have watched fairly but people were kind of beating the bushes. I have learnt form your info that my profile should describe me and my expectations too. And of course to ask for the schedule in advance or at least perior to the day so I don’t get lost or frustrated. Of course I want to do work away because I want to explore with local and have some local experience. This is the key and shouldn’t be forgotten by host. Just to add on for your Nepalese story, reminds me watching a blog of Mount Everest, where a fight took place b/t locals and hikers, and potter hit the tourist with the rock. He was bleeding. And local person explained it that he used abusive word. For them you can’t simply use the most versatile F word. Thanks for putting the info

Hey man, love the Videos, I have a few important questions.... I Currently just dropped out of college (IB/French) due to a change in mindset about life, thus I really want/need to travel to France. Workaway seems like it would be a great idea, 1) to limit idle time 2) financial reasons. But .... Im very curious on what the Visa process for a workaway is?? also if you plan to stay 3/4 months is it best to plan all the workaways ahead of time and plan the entire trip or maybe like halfway into one decide and look around? Again great content, and best of luck with future endeavors!!

Hey man, great questions! As far as volunteering in Europe you should get three months on a tourist visa (depending on your passport). Also if you're very time rich and have no where to be, your hosts can fix you up a longer term visa if you're happy there. When I did Workaway in the US, I just told them I was seeing family friends because you need an actual volunteering visa. So I just got away with a business visa... shhh, don't tell them. ;) Hahaha! Your last question, I've learnt time and time again. When I was started, I planned out at least 4 or 5 months in advance and it was all ready to go. But when I met other volunteers, made friends, stayed in different Workaway projects longer, I found myself cancelling my future Workaway hosts. I always tried to give them at least a weeks notice that I wouldn't be arriving due to my travel plans changing and thats life hey. I've learnt that planning one or two Workaways in advance is more than enough. Thank you bro! Good luck with your travels :D

Hey great video. I have a question next year I finish high school and I was planning on taking a gap year and I would like to do some work aways, but I’m scared because I’ll be barely 18 years old. Would you recommend me doing it anyways, or should I wait until I’m older?

Hey, your videos are really cool and they've inspired me to try this out too! I just have one question: How do you plan your flight? Especially the one back home? Because I read some of the other comments and there you said that sometimes, you would spontaneously stay longer.. Isn't it difficult to cancel your flght and then get a new (preferrably cheap) one? And do you think it's possible to link your workaway time with hitchhking? Cause that would be a good way to save money on the travelling itself, but you can't really plan ahead with hitchhiking, so you wouldn't be able to assure your arrival on a certain day... I know that you have experence with both workaway and hitchhking, so maybe you could help me out with that... Have a nice day! :)
@DanandMattea
@DanandMattea 5 жыл бұрын
Fantastic questions! Yes having a return flight can be difficult. I find that a lot of the time, I'll book a one way ticket, so I have no time restriction, and when I'm in that Workaway, I'll begin to plan a head. And sometimes if I have to leave for a new country, I would return to the other Workaway a few weeks later. It's just trial and error I guess. I have had a couple of times where I haven't gotten on the plane, but thats not good practise because I lose that money :') Yes! For sure, it can be difficult. I guess the only way would be to let the host know the rough dates, and let them know that you're hitch hiking and the exact arrival date is out of your control. Have a great day!

My mom introduced me to work away and I was amazed by the service , she told me that a relative managed to travel to 42 different countries and he mostly worked as a teacher . I got my English degree 2 years ago and I am quite fluent but not as fluent as the native speakers, should I still try and apply to hosts that require fluent-near native English speaking? Or just get some practice and work my way up? Loved the video , very informative and super interesting

Hey! Do we really have to pay a monthly fee on the work away website??? I was trying to sign up on the website for work away but it looks like they wanted me to pay a monthly subscription first to be able to contact the host and get started. Was this true in your case?? Hey Imani, no that shouldn't be the case. It should be an annual fee of US $42 for the year. It's pretty cheap I think for the access of connections you get. Let me know if that helps in anyway
