Hi, this video shows you how to replace the 3.5mm (1/8inch) jack on a gaming headset or headphones. The same process will work on 2.5mm jacks.
The video explains the plugs, shows how to test and verify the colour code and finally the fitting of the 3.5mm plug and then how to test including a microphone test,
Many thanks Vince

Nearly pulled my hair out trying to solder those tiny wires... A few tips... Get those reverse tweezers clamps if you can... This was super annoying to do without wire shrink wrap so get some (heat shrink tubing)... Make sure to thread all parts you need on the wires before you solder them (shrink wrap, 3.5mm housing, and do it in the right order, DOH!)... Plan it out and have patience. I re-soldered them like 5 times. 🤦‍♀️🤣 I might have PTSD from that

Hey Vince, I was able to repair two headsets so far, one Turtle Beach and one After Glow for my two nephews. What I did was go to the Dollar Tree store in the US and buy the $1 earbuds that have the microphone. It's a quick way to access a cable plug. On the Turtle B. one I just replaced the plug to volume section. On the After G. I replaced all wires. The wires are not as sturdy obviously but it get's them going. There are only 4 wires inside the earbuds but the extra wire on the gaming headphones was a ground.

i love videos that pay attention to detail and i appreciate how you emphasis testing continuity with your solder drips on the new connector before soldering the wires to it. i watched a few videos prior with more views and, though they had a soldering kit, they didnt use a volt meter to work smarter. i imagine that would create a lot of trial and error attempts. also mapping the wires with the volt meter is one of those preparations that eliminate user error in connecting wrong ends - no guess work right? excellent video mate. thank you

I have no experience with fixing electronics and this seems beyond what I am capable of, so I am going to try out something a little different. I bought a 3.5 mm male to male off of the Amazon. Instead of having to solder the wires to the headphone plug, I am going to cut the jack off of my headset along with the male to male, then connect the wires of the new jack to the wires in the old headset. Hopefully it works!

@@darrenl.5922 Don't most warranties not cover damage to a product made by the customer, accidental or not? I think warranties mainly cover faults in the product itself and not down to user error. For example if you had joycon drift on a Switch, and you had a warranty on them, you could send them in for repairs because it is an actual fault with the joycons and Nintendo is even facing a (class action I believe) law suit because of it, but say you cracked the plastic and it fell apart because you dropped it from high up. They wouldn't fix that because that'd be user error, not a product fault.

i can't use any of the information in this video as of right now, but I'm really glad this video exists because I want to get a nice pair of xbox 360 headphones with the separate chat and game volume dials, along with the mute button, and just replace the 2.5mm jack with a 3.5mm. For some goddamn reason everyone decided the Xbox One doesn't support separate volume controllers and there are no headsets that aren't for the 360 that have that kind of thing. I'm hoping if I just replace the 2.5mm jack with a 3.5mm then I'll magically be able to control chat volume and game volume individually on the One, but at the same time I'm sure that's just wishful thinking.

I literally did the exact same thing you did. my problem is that I can hear things through both ears but I have to keep turning the jack like I am finding a radio station. I got the same headset but I got it practically new but since someone bought it and used it for about a week and didn't want it so got the mic for about $20. I know how to solder but, I do not own one personally to do this repair.

Probably shorting to ground, the housing or across channels (left and right). Shrink wrap the wire to the terminal with this stuff www.amazon.com/Industrial-Heat-shrink-Tubing/b?ie=UTF8&node=700782011. Wrap all the mini wires with Etape to help reinforce them

"I know how to solder but, I do not own one personally to do this repair." Bro that's literally a mood, I'm the exact same way. Considering going to a hardware store so I can find an el cheapo in case I need to do one of these repairs.
