How To SETUP the Nintendo Wii U for Beginners

Hi, this video is aimed at beginners or those that haven't set up a gaming console in the last 15 years. It shows the complete set up of the Nintendo Wii U from connecting the cables right through to playing a game.

2024 and our son asked for a Wii U haha! Had his heart set on these classic games and console. We have no prior knowledge of how to operate these as we have the current gaming consoles in our home. We were genuinely surprised when he asked, but we tracked one down in mint condition for him, and off we went, but it's not so easy as we're finding out! You are a lifesaver! Thank you so very much! Gotta tell you, 5 years later and I was able to follow along with your video on a Wii U I'm rehabbing where the screen on the gamepad is DOA, but the pad works... I watched what you did, immitated it to a T and walked through setup! On the money even with some OS upgrades obvious by guessing but it all went great, huge thanks!

Just broke out the WII U after a couple of years. Great for Just Dance while staying indoors. Vince is phenomenal in his explanation and demonstration. I will definitely look for other of his videos. Thank you!

@Jasmine.Unicorn _Games Our regular wii has stopped playing disks lately so we managed to get a Wii U on Ebay for £100 with 4 just dance games (my sister was happy about that (she's 14)). Dad suggested getting a Wii U cause we could still play our collection of Wii games and it would be in HD rather than AV.

@Jasmine.Unicorn _Games No, not at all. It was our original Wii which stopped reading disks. Dad reckons it was because the of the lens. Our original wii dates back to 2006 and we got in second hand in 2014 don't worry! The Wii U is superior hardware (released 6/7 years after the original Wii) so will work perfectly fine! @@SusannaEmily you can play wii on hdmi too, you just need a wii2hdmi converter which you can get on ebay or amazon. The only problem is that the Wii can only output upto 480p while the Wii U can go upto 1080p. Still, 420p is till better than the original 420i

Wii U will look a lot cleaner so I recommend getting it. I said the above for people who don't want to buy a new console but still want the Wii to look cleaner.

The Wii U is a good console. It has a few issues, but most consoles do. I still play mine, almost every day. Good video, i'm sure some people will find this helpful when they pick up a Wii U and find out just how much fun can be had with this console.

I just got my Wii U yesterday and can’t get enough of Nintendo games. I have an xbox one s last 2017, a ps4 pro and a New Nintendo 3DS XL last year. This year its a Wii U and I’ll be getting a Switch when they update it to a newer model...just like all Nintendo consoles do.

Nero Havlíček I just got mine from GameStop back in June! (32 gigabytes) and I feel like you are going to have a great time with your system and I feel the Wii U is underrated. I also used it to replace my Wii and give it as a gift to my brother. I was only 11 at the time (now I'm 12) and I convinced my parents because of the cheap price. I hope you enjoy your new system!

I've recently bought a Wii system for my kids. Being completely new to the world of game consoles, this video is absolutely perfect and is my go-to for referencing set-up. I wonder if you might advise how to open the cover that protects the ports at the top of the console (I have the same unit as shown in the video) it should be obvious, but I can't work it out.

It isn't in the Wii U (the focus of this video), It is only the original Wii and not the family system.

This one is a Wii U from 2012. The one with the GameCube port is the original Wii 2006 (not to be confused with Wii Family Edition from 2011 which's drive isn't compatible with GameCube games and doesn't have those ports.) (I dobut you're gonna do this, but I'm gonna tell you just in case. Both the Wii U and the Family Edition Wii can play GameCube games digitally through homebrew and with their non GameCube controllers. Yeah there aren't ports and supported disc drives but the hardware is fully compatible). Then there's also the Wii Mini which is top loader and doesn't have access to the internet if I'm not wrong (again no matter which classic Wii you are going to use (so it doesn't apply to the Wii U, if not mistaken) can only go online with custom servers. You can use the Internet Browser with you actual connection on those systems, but it's so slow it's pratically unusable. Don't know how it works with the Wii U.)

This helped so much! I did this with my projector instead but my dad did all of the setting up for everything and I never knew how to do it and now that he left I needed help because I hadn’t had a single clue on what to do. This was super helpful and I’m grateful.
