Beautiful car. Only thing I can compare it to would be Sandra Bullock in Levi's, a t- shirt, and high heels. That is how perfect this car is! Well done, thank you for sharing this video.

I had one of these 1971 Cutlass Supreme SX cars, though it had the Landau roof instead of being a convertible . I gave it to my nephew in 1990 on the condition that he was going to restore it. It has the Metal Flake Gold paint job with Black interior. From what I was told back then, any Oldsmobile dealer who sold enough Cutass in 1970, they could qualify to custom order a certain number of them to be sold exclusively at their dealership. But I'm not certain that the info is correct. The one I had, (and still hold title to), was the only one sold by the Milan, Missouri Oldsmobile Dealership in 1971. It is still sitting in a garage in Texas. I'm considering going and getting it back. Although there was some body damage at the time I gave it to him, it was still in running condition. The problem is that I'm old now, and don't have the physical ability to restore it myself any more.

Regards the RAM AIR hood option. After reviewing my video I realized I failed to point out that the RA hood was added by the former owner. The RA hood was a factory option and this is an original RA hood, however Olds did not make the RA hood available with the SX option. Also I meant to say ...."many olds guys" were not aware of the SX which is more accurate. Well, I will strive to be more on target next time. ENJOY the video ..... what a car!!!

u r right because I owned an factory original 71 sx convertible back in 1973 and it came with the flat hood and factory hubcaps and a/c delete as well as a standard factory stock steering wheel with the factory 455 4bbl and the hurst dual gate shifter. A real sleeper

I was wondering about that, because as I commented earlier, I owned a 1971 Olds Cutlass Supreme SX with the Landau roof. It was Gold Metal Flake color with Black interior. It had the 455, the 4 barrel carb, and the Dual Exhaust. Plus it had the posi-trac rear-end and the Turbo 400 Transmission. If the engine had not so heavy, I could have raised the front end up on take off. As it was, it would burn rubber through first and second gears, and would bark them good when it hit third. I don't think I ever found "Top-End" on that car. The interior had the under-dash factory 8 Track tape player, and all the extras. I put a lot of miles on it driving all around the country for many years. As I said in my other comment, I still hold title to it, but I left it with a nephew of mine in Texas back in 1990. He was supposed to restore it, but has not done much of anything. I'm thinking about going and retrieving it since he obviously isn't going to do anything to it, and I still hold the title, but I'm just not sure it's worth it as my health is not very good these days.

What a great car you have there!! I remember when I was 13 years old my grandfather owned a small town Olds dealership and I always hung out in the garage. One day I herd that engine sound pull into the shop. It was the 1970 442 looked exactly like this one except it had green interior. My cousin owned it he was a mechanic there at the dealer. I told my grandfather PLEASE tell me when he sells it I wanted that car so bad. well he never let me know I got pretty upset with him. This video brings back that memory..If i had the money I would not even think about it. GREAT video! Maybe I will sell my home to buy it! LOL...

Found this video while searching the net for 68-72 Cutlass. What a beauty this is. I previously owned a plain jane stock 71 Cutlass,in this same green. A friend owned a 70, 442. Still remember him chirping the tires in all 4 gears. Hoping to someday own another.

The valve covers are on the wrong side. That indentation that you see at 3:07 under the alternator should be on the passenger side, for additional clearance from the a/c housing; helped when removing only the valve cover. Likewise the correct drivers side valve cover should have a small indentation for more clearance from the power brake booster. Otherwise, great car!

I did not see or hear you discuss the SX VIN number being a "generic" Oldsmobile number unlike the 442 that had a it's own specific VIN number. And insurance companies knew a 442 VIN number when they saw one. The SX generic Oldsmobile VIN number helped SX owners to pay the lower insurance premium as compared to what 442 owners had to pay.

They are 14 inch custom mags, and if I remember correctly, they were 8 inches wide. I mounted a set of Micky 50s on the back one time with no problem. I remember having to replace a couple of the different chrome rings on mine, and they were pricey.

Sooo sweet got 1 myself. A gold SX I also have a plain jane 70 convertible in the same color. LOVE THAT GREEN ! CHECK OUT MY VIDEO kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gtyip7lltLHHqYU.html It showcases both my 1970 OLDS. My SX is a #'s matching correctly coded fully documented CA.Survivor car built in Freemont. I love the highway gears in my SX Just a quick note the hood was actually known as O.A.I. outside air induction. I do an awesome burnout in the VID. You can't help doing it it is soo fun. I got the best of both worlds BUT actually wish I had them in one package such as yourself. you are a lucky man! I wish they got a little more respect but as you stated Even many OLDS car guys are unaware of the SX. Have fun driving that beautiful car p.s. the hood was a option outside of the y-79 or w-32 option available from olds I think it was w-25 as was the w-27 rear diff option.

Nice machine however the video is technically inaccurate when reporting the amount of torque that the engine produces. This vehicle produced zero Pound Feet of torque. There is no such thing as pound feet. Engineers, mechanics and enthusiasts of the past cringe when they hear someone refer to torque in terms of "Pound Feet". Power (torque) is the amount of energy available to move one pound one linear foot. The constant in this equation is the distance (foot). Therefore there can be no plural (Feet). Anyone who describes torque in terms of "Pound Feet" either doesn't know what they're talking about or they are succumbing to the vernacular of the children who also don't know what they're talking about. Perhaps the genesis of "Pound Feet" was some kids idea of what sounded cool. FOOT POUNDS!

foot pounds is measuring twisting force and that is lifting one pound from one foot distance from the axis of the said twisting force.... The 455 olds stock is capable of 500 foot lbs LULZ@ Power (torque) is the amount of energy available to move one pound one linear foot. LOLL ...and did I say LOL
