That was definitely a tough one. With those ingredients I think I would do a smoked haddock that was dredged in the cup of soup mix and then coated with the crisps and pair that with a compote made from the rhubarb, tomato and tarragon. And then, I think a bread pudding with the malt loaf and some of the rest of the rhubarb would do nicely too.
@ashleywyatt12662 ай бұрын
Exactly what I was thinking as soon as I seen the crisps . But I would have used the cup a soup and made a sauce with the tomatoes and tarragon too drizzle over the fish and a nice toasted malt loaf as a base

@@ashleywyatt1266 The cup a soup was definitely the wild card in this thing. I had also considered maybe a cup a soup infused custard, but couldn't figure out how I would use it as part of a dish.
@grouch3142 ай бұрын
I was thinking similar. Haddock panne'd in the crisps, with a thick sauce made with the tomato, tarragon and rhubarb, with just a little bit of cup a soup to thicken and bind it Definitely malt loaf as a dessert. Either a bread and butter sort of thing, or with stewed apples, raisins, winter spices and custard but the apples might have taken too long
@Oberkiller2 ай бұрын
Pretty much the same ballpark I was in as well. I just couldn't figure out which thing was on top of the box?
@Bryan_K_274352 ай бұрын
I might do a cheeky fish pie with the smoked haddock, soup mix, tomatoes, tarragon and kettle chips. Don't think there's enough chips to rehydrate to use as a mash potato top though but I'll roughly crush the whole bag up to top it off, the bottom layer would go a little soggy and mash-esq while the top stays crunchy for texture. The malt loaf and rhubarb would be a simple bread butter pudding of sorts. Pretty straight forward segregation of sweet and savoury. If time wasn't a concern I'd put the fish pie mix into a silicon mould to freeze and panne it (twice) for a super indulgent arancini of sorts. I'd make some kinda salsa with the tarragon, tomatoes and probably a bit of that rhubarb water/juice that would otherwise go into the other (sweet) dish.

I would have tried to do: malt loaf blitzed and roasted till dry, rhubarb and water to make a puree, mix in crushed roasted malt loaf and cook to make a thick sweet and sour sauce. Smoke fish cut into a fillet, flash fry in a smoking pan to get the skin crispy. Then brush one side with egg and then coat in crushed chips, then bake till cooked and 2 crispy sides, 1 from the crispy skin and from the chip breadding. The soup is mostly cornflour, so I'm thinking sifting the veg out, then cutting medalions of tomato and dipping into the sieved soup powder on both cut sides, dip in egg then back into the soup powder and deepfry. So a crispy coated smoked haddok, with a side of southern fried heirloom tomatoes, served with a rhubarb and malt reduction

Then use the cupasoup with tarragon as a sauce with a fresh tomato and rhubarb (rhubarb to be cooked with a little bit of brown sugar) salsa. I don’t know how it would all taste but I’d love to do one of these challenges one day ☺️

VERY tricky one, but Jamie was the clear winner. As an alternative, how about using the crisps as 'breadcrumbs' to coat the haddock & pan-fried, then using the soup instead of milk/cream as the liquid for mashed potatoes, served with pan-fried tomatoes & a tarragon & soup 'gravy'? Then, for pud, how about a rhubarb crumble, with the malt loaf chopped into tiny bits and mixed into the rhubarb as chewy sweet flavour-bombs, served with custard or cream?

What would I do before watching? Tarragon mashed potatoes from the crisps, a smokey haddock soup with ramen-style noodles, and a malted bread pudding (with egg-based custard, assuming the eggs were part of the equation). The tomatoes would add richness and depth to the soup, while the other half would be used in plating with a touch of salt. Being mildly allergic to rhubarb, I'd likely add it to the bread pudding, as it offsets the sweetness in a pleasant way.

If I was put to the challenge of using these ingredients, I would have dredged the haddock with egg and the cup a soup mix powder and then crust it with the crisps. Fry it off. Tarragon hollandaise sauce for the fish. A tomato and rhubarb side salad with malt loaf croutons.

my immediate thought was fish and chips, using the rhubarb with the tomatoes for a ketchup, maybe malt loaf mixed with crisps for the batter ( im feeling ill thinking about it)
