I know the Loughcrew area quite well. In all my wandering I always feel Patrick's town is the most intriguing, though there isn't much left it, alot of the ancient walkways and some monuments are still intact (not marked on maps, even old ones generally). It was suppose to be the largest and most significant of the 4 hilltops. Seems to be forgotten as most people aren't even aware it's connected with Loughcrew. Great video!

Wow. Great work what a beautiful presentation. Excellent photography. I'm jealous I'd love to be up there on those freezing mornings. Amazing research and on the ground documentation of these sites. Someday I'll make it to Ireland to see these places and hopefully meet some of these awesome people.

Another fabulous video and talk Anthony! Inspirational. I'm from Kells and have always loved the view of Sliabh na Cailleach from Lloyd hill. Delighted that you could do this talk. Thanks, and congrats on the discovery in July. Great photos!

Wonderful talk and slideshow. Hope you and the group had a good visit to the carn. I was introduced to your work by a friend who grew up near Newgrange, I've followed the discovery of the new henge during the dry spell, and I really hope to attend one of your events when I visit Meath next May.

Fascinating talk, but I'm confused. Watched all of it and now wonder whether true Bealtainne is lunar-based or solar-based. You mentioned the 3/4 moon standstill, so is true bealtainne changeable and lunar or always marked by the sunrise?

I think "Wise old woman" is a nicer English for the Cailleach than "witch" or "hag", those words have a lot of baggage in English...
@Auriflamme
@Auriflamme 5 жыл бұрын
Hag is the correct translation, the term is not an honorific. The Cailleach is not a particularly positive figure. Wise woman is "cailleach feasa", this is not the same thing as the Cailleach.

Why do things have to be "nice?" Maybe there was no niceness intended? Baggage is only baggage if people pick it up and walk with it. One need not accept it.

It's the 3 form feminine, the virgin, (Mary) the wife (Mary) and the Crone (Mary) also known as the 3 fates. "Boil boil, toil and trouble, Witch's brew boil and bubble" There's a reason why the Harvest Moon, Celtic Jewish and Egyptian New Year in September, the 7th Moon is also called the Witch's Mass, aka Samhain

Yes agreed. I suppose hag is the "correct translatuon" but certainly that word had acquired some negative connotations
