Me and my brother were taught to clean everything with Dawn dish soap and a slightly used green scrubbie (to avoid scratches) and i usually rinse with hot hot water because hotter parts will dry faster, but you definitely need to use air and or heat to thoroughly dry then like you said WD-40 to protect from rust... Not trying to be a know it all just want to help the next generation learn some of the old tricks to success...

Great to see a new video by you, I have a good complete rotating assembly(stock) if you would need it, it has the "x" rods,, it needs a good home as its in my way. I have a Complete TBI setup with electronics too also in the way.

Working with the machine shop is really important. Everything comes from the Machine Shop in a plastic bag ready to assemble. I tell the machinist to make it fool proof. They've seen a lot of fools.

The number 2 cam bearing hole looked like it was straight down? I'm rebuilding a 1975 350 and the cam bearings 2,3 and 4 oil hole lined up with the hole going to the crankshaft? But several videos on here say to put them at the 8 o'clock position when the block is upside down. Confusing. Why would you block off a oil hole going to the crankshaft? Thanks
@Myvintageiron7512
@Myvintageiron7512 2 жыл бұрын
The small block chevy has a groove all the way around the center of the cam bearing bore so you're not blocking off the hole the oil will follow the groove and lube the cam

How many HP can you get out of a stock Olds 307 with boring and maybe stroking it? I’m really thinking of ordering a crate LS3 495hp but I’m just curious how much hp I can get out of it having it built.

And it's just a daily driver it's all good if he's going to run the piss out of it of course you want to resize new connecting rod bolts and better Pistons come on guys what are you doing with it that's where you make your decision it's a daily driver leave it alone it's all good it'll run forever like they always do

Thats a good point this engine is going in a truck that sees about 1000 miles a year it's a ranch truck hauls hay and lumber now and then pulls a trailer made out of a ford short bed it's just a work truck does do some freeway driving now and then

@@Myvintageiron7512 it will run just fine I've built several of these 5.7's like this for low RPM work horses and they run forever some of these guys on here will ridicule you for reusing parts that is just a sign of inexperience these bozos only think about one thing all out power, I'm not opposing that I have several high HP street rods and a race car but some times you just need a decant work horse this build is perfect for that

I wouldn't recommend buying any roller lifter from GM and would rather run old clean used ones.. Gm and even ford and mopar have some serious standard lifter problems for the last 7 years and that isn't even the displacement on demand lifter problems!

Your customer wanted to reuse those pistons? Not me. There are a whole lot better ones out there and not that expensive. As well as better flowing cylinder heads. Going cheap isn't what I would do with an engine rebuild. Unless I was going to toss on the For Sale sign after I was done.

I'm sorry but taking the car wash's foam brush to your greasy engine with metal particles was just hillbilly ignorant and hillbilly rude. The next guy is going to come along and drag that sumbitch all over their paint and windows. Many car washes have signs up prohibiting exactly what you did but even if they didn't it was still ignorant.

You are clearly not paying attention and clearly you do not build engines first of all this is not as you put it greasy engine full of metal it was machined vatted honed and jet spray washed, as I state in the video this is the finial wash just before assembly you also clearly did not pay attention to the first video when I explain the point of this series if you can't see from the video of the block and heads what stage of the rebuild these parts are i'm sorry man but you're really out in the weeds, every machine shop finial washes blocks and cranks with soap and water before final assembly but as I said you clearly have no experience doing this type of work so you wouldn't know that

@@Myvintageiron7512 retired auto mechanic... And amatuer drag racer... Cant even guess how many engines I've built. My first tailgate 350 was 1978 or 79. I did it in my parents driveway. With a garden house because I didn't need to drive across town to disrespect the local cat wash equipment. You tried hard to paint me an amatuer with zero knowledge because I simply dont approve of your behavior. Get over yourself tuber. We don't need every kid in town scrubbing down auto parts at the car wash. Use some common sense! And know your audience before you stick your own $&$# in you mouth.
