The most important victory in Nadal's career is definitely the Wimbledon 2008 final, that match opened the doors for him on surfaces other than clay.

Gherbi Hicham That's a great point. He only won French before that match. But I am not rating it in terms of 'importance' but rather the 'quality' of the victory. Nadal was on a roll against Fed, a mental advantage which he never had against Djokovic, in fact it was the other way around after the horrendous 2011. That's why Nadal will be always a better player for me than Fed, he actually solved the Djokovic problem, and not aided by any dip in the other's game, but solely due to his own courage and physical effort, unlike Fed who never could really solve the Nadal-problem.

Yan Okimura nadal vs djocovic is like defende vs defense. They are looking for others vulnerability rather than taking risky shots, but when it comes to federer vs nadal, it will be best offense vs best defence. Both players have a complete contrasting style which make the game have more varieties than any other game. I am excluding AO 2012. About AO 2017, both players are well past their prime which dimnished federers forehand and running attack all around the court, whereas Nadal lost his speed and spinning rate

@simba16086 жыл бұрын
Yan Okimura, I feel the same way. Djokovic vs Nadal is simply the best rivalry of tennis. Their matches have always been so brutal, even since their first matches you could see them returning ridiculous shots, and the quality of their rallies is out of this world. But discussing this in an era where almost everyone is a fan of either Nadal or Federer is very difficult. I feel that 10 or 20 years from now, people will be more aware of how great this rivalry really was, and even give the proper credit to Djokovic's achievements.

The world has never seen another player like the great Rafa,Greatest forehand ever and he has various ways of hitting it.No one can hit a forehand like him from very wide of the court and make it curl round the net with such velocity and accuracy. His backhand is just as lethal as his forehand and his volleys are just pure skill What that makes him the greatest out of the 3 is the way he can produce magic under extreme pressure..The way he beat then a very inform Federer at Wimbledon to win against the greatest player on grass proves his level of greatness.His serve is not big but make no mistake he knows how to utilise his lefty serve sometimes with power to great advantage. Nadal always displays dexterity against Novak and Federer. Some of the points I have seen him win against them and other players like Medevev who play well against him are just mind blowing. Nadal is the only player that can seem to achieve the impossible when you are thinking this is not possible. How many times have you heard commentators scream in disbelief using words like "Oh my God how did he do that ".I have never seen such a combination of skill ,determination and imperious execution of shots from all varieties.There is only one Rafa and he is a blessing to tennis.Nothing more entertaining on our screens than a Rafa match.Long live his career as its we who will lose out when he retires.

@@jay_kulina Nadal was not in good form, in 2016. In fact, not long after Nadal won the 2014 FO, his form declined. And it lasted throughout 2016 (with him being in his worse form, in 2015). But, 2010 Nadal would've destroyed any HC version of Djokovic. And Djokovic made it CRYSTAL CLEAR to the entire world that he could only have defeated Nadal at the FO, when Nadal was in his worse form ever! And No, I do not mean just on clay court! Because, prior to 2011, Nadal held a 2-0 h2h lead against Djokovic on grass (in addition to 9-0 on clay). And he had also won more slams than Djokovic on ALL surfaces. Djokovic slam count accelerated when Federer and Nadal started to slow down, during the later years of the rivalry. Most of his geater accomplishments took place from 2011 and beyond (at which point Federer was 30 yrs and older). And the effects of injuries had also caused Nadal to slow down during some of those later years. In fact, in 2015, when Djokovic recorded his best season, Federer was about 34 yrs old. And Nadal (as I pointed out before) was in his worse form. But of the 1st 20 GS titles of the Federer/Nadal/Djokovic rivarly dating back from 2006, Djokovic won ONLY 1. Federer won 9. @wildwind55715 жыл бұрын
Chinoo Tripathi yeah, he seemed so “old” today 😔 but I think the main problem was that he was playing vs djokovic... He’s got a mental block or something when he faces him, because for the rest of the tournament (with lesser opponents for sure) played much better than today. I feared he would be the loser but not like this, given what he had shown...
@chinootripathi97195 жыл бұрын
@@wildwind5571 Yes I do agree on that. But today it felt like, I was watching an old Hewitt playing, there were simply no positives, he was not able to put pressure on Djokovic's first serve, and was only relying on rallies, where he was absolutely demolished.
@wildwind55715 жыл бұрын
Chinoo Tripathi yeah today he was massacred... But I want to believe him when he says that fitness was the main issue and that with work he can get to level of at least putting pressure on djokovic. I’m hoping for a final against him in RG, if rafa could win maybe he could regain confidence playing djokovic and beat him on other surfaces too
@chinootripathi97195 жыл бұрын
@@wildwind5571 I hope this is not the end of my childhood, as I grew up watching Rafa- Roger and Rafa - Novak rivalry. The way Rafa played today, it felt like the end is very near for him, and suprisingly even faster than Roger and Novak. His injuries really did the damage to him, otherwise, we would have seen a lot more matches like this in years to come. I also hope Andy can find something in his game, and Australian open was not his last gs.
@gherbihicham85064 жыл бұрын
The difference between Nadal's landing forehand positions compared to the 2011 US Open final is staggering, in 2011 he constantly gave Djokovic a target going short to his backhand and once Djokovic hits the flat backhand to the Nadal forehand and it drops deep, Nadal is instantly on the defense. Here, every time Djokovic played the backhand to the forehand Nadal either goes down the line with forehand putting Djokovic instantly on the defense or goes deep to his backhand making Djokovic hit a a very hard defensive shot. The difference between Nadal vs Djokovic has always been decided in that single exchange between the backhand and the forehand, who ever controls that exchange is usually the winner.

There were 2 moments that decided this match in Rafa''s favor, in my opinion. 1. When Novak had 2:0 in the 3rd set and failed to make the second break. 2. When Novak had 3 break points at 4:4 in the same 3rd set but again, failed to convert any. My opinion is that Nole's mental game was shattered at those points, especially at the one at 4:4. Up to that moment, both of them were pretty much head to head in this match.

Actually that is true but the reality was that he went down on himself far too much following the French Open semi defeat in the semi and it gutted him for the rest of the Summer, his backhand was malfunctioning in the tournament and a statistic showed that unless he corrected it he would lose the final...the backhand that he overcooked for the double break that would have almost sealed the third set was an example of that...

However, Nadal is 4 to 3 against Djokovic at US Opens won. And to me, the US Open carries more weight as a Grand Slam than the Australian Open. If you ask the average tennis fan what is the most important tennis tournament on hard court, 99 out of 100 will say it is the US Open.

Jesus Christ No, it is not, my friend! Not by any means. And neither is the character that your username depicts. Well, at least such character hasn't been proven real. Now, let me give you a clue. During the first 5 seasons of the Djokovic/Nadal rivalry (2006-2010), Novak held just a slight 7-5 h2h lead against Nadal on hard courts. That doesn't suggest he was "unbeatable on hard courts," does it? He couldn't have prevented Nadal from beating him repeatedly on his best surface. But Nadal held Djokovic winless against him (9-0) on clay and 2-0 on grass, during those 5 seasons. In my opinion, Djokovic only gained the advantage over Fed and Rafa as they started to slow down during the 2nd half of their rivalry. Djokovic's emergence and greater accomplishments took place while playing against a Federer who was 30 years or older. And also against a Nadal whom injuries had caused to slow down, during those later years. Everything from Djokovic's longest winning streak and reaching #1 in the rankings, to his winning mutiple slams, all came while playing against a Federer who was 30 yrs or older. Nadal was able to reach #1 back in 2008, when Federer was 27. And he also made most of his other greater accomplishments (including winning mutiple grand slams, completing career grand slam, 81 match winning streak on clay, 33-match winning streak on all surfaces, etc) before Fed turned 30.
@williamcombis48365 жыл бұрын
I don't see how any of that is related to Djokovic bring near unbeatable on a hard court during his prime. Going on into this match versus Nadal, Djokovic had won 46 of his last 47 best of 5 set matches on hard courts. Sounds pretty formidable to me.
@TheTmat0075 жыл бұрын
Jesus Christ I have already proved to you that you're wrong, by pointing out Nadal beat Djokovic 5 of the 12 times they met on HC, from 2006-2010. And Nadal also defeated him 2 times on the surface in 2013. Are you lacking understanding? Yea, well, I'd have loved to see him accomplish the feat of 46 out of 47 5 set matches back during the earlier years when Federer and Nadal were fresh and playing at their peak. This is how it relates to it.
