Experimenting with bunkai for a Naihanchi Sandan combination including a couple of Henka (variations) of the tuidi technique (an elbow wrench). It is hard to see because it is being done in a non-painful way, but in initial the movement the left hand traps the opponent's punch at the wrist while the right arm does an "arm- destruction" to the opponent's brachioradialis with the sharp edge of the ulna bone. This is immediately followed by a forearm blow to the side of the neck. This combination was favored by Motobu Choki shinshii, a karateka who fought in over 300 challenge matches. Do a KZfaq search for "pimp KO" to see the result of a forearm to the side of the neck.

Ryan, that is the first and only plausible explanation (limb destruction) I have ever seen for that movement. Most folks avoid naihanchi sandan altogether so it's nice to see some work on it. My own application is a simple pull, down and across or as a rolling trap. Nice to have another option to consider.

@Sil Rayman it is indeed pretty funny. I have nothing against JKD (in fact I rather like what I have seen of the "concepts" branch of Inosanto because it reminds so much of the Okinawan karate I was taught), but it turns out that classical karate never needed liberation. It just needed to be understood on a level deeper than what is seen in school children's shinbudo karatedo (which was all Bruce Lee ever saw).

A trained martial artist would counter with a uraken. And it could be reflex of an attacker to use such a movement just trying to escape when they realize they are in trouble and need to fight back or retreat.

***** No I think he meant sandan. I have published some Naihanchi Sandan bunkai in facebook groups which hasn't been made public yet. I think he was most likely talking about that material. If so he can link to the video through the group. Otherwise I will eventually publish a complete video on Naihanchi sandan but that project isn't done.
