You're so true about basics one must have! It took me ages to realize that blazers, boxy tees and crisp white shirts are definitely not for me... 😂 I think that on youtube there's some kind of a fashion 'uniform' which includes those items. We should always listen to our inner self and to our body shapes.

It’s funny for years I hated blazers, would declutter them after buying them. Then all of a sudden these last 6 months they just started making sense. With that being said though I’ll never look for a white button down ever again lol!

Well said. I have spent so much money on white T-shirt’s and white button up/down shirts, and every time I do a closet declutter, these end up in the bin bag. What a total waste.

It’s true, there are no universal “Must Haves” in personal style. According to those nonsensical “must have basics” lists I’m “supposed to” have several pairs of jeans, but I never could stand them. No Little Black Dress for me, either, I don’t like wearing black, it makes me look ill. Or high heeled pumps, never! There is no “required basic”. We humans seem to like the simplicity of rules and lists, but it’s best to make our own based on what we love and what works best for us.

Agree with the t-shirts! 'Staples' just don't always work for everyone. They just never look good on me. They cut off my arms, so I now go for either no sleeves, fitted 3/4 sleeves, or full-length sleeves

Acrylic is awful, too, for knits. I don’t consider synthetics wearable at all. I just purged a lot of fast-fashion sweaters that were “really cute”, but every time I wore one of them, I really regretted it. They don’t keep me warm outside, only sweaty and miserably overheated inside. The more I stick to my natural-fiber fabrics only rule, the better and more wearable my wardrobe gets. One problem with natural fabrics, besides the high price, is that styles can be really limited in them, often to simple basics only (solid-color crew or V-neck), but I hope that will improve as we all buy them more. I would love to find cashmere sweaters with stripes or square necklines, for example, or silk shirts with modern prints.

I hate polyester in the sense of 100% but as a blend I'm not opposed. Esp when it comes to wool pants. Cut with poly they're easier to tolerate against my skin. Or a poly cotton blend in a sweater , or shirt, makes it drape differently. But it's only acceptable in Canadian winter. Summer? Poly doesn't touch my body.

The “bow” heels have been trending for a couple of years and are still going strong in those circkrs where they are “useable” … and for the feather cuffs, make a diy version, super easy and can be removed later 😊 - just a few ideas.

light grey is so specific but i've thought about this too! it ties into the ideas of needing duplicates one white, one black, one navy and one grey. But we don't need duplicates and we don't need to be told which color is a basic color that everyone should have!

I couldn't agree more on polyester! I've been telling everyone not to ruin their sweaters with polyester or acrylic! It's not gonna keep you warm but it's also not breathable, like you said trashbag with arms. Personally I don't buy anything in polyester but my gymwear/other athletic stuff and some of my pants are a mix but especially sweaters should be preferably natural fibers, maybe semi-synthetic and with maybe a bit of nylon if the fit needs that. I'm very sweaty and polyester shirts and sweaters start to smell really bad on me after just one wear and I will feel very uncomfortable and sweaty in them.

Yes, I prefer silver over light grey. I have silk blouses that are light grey that read silver which looks amazing on me. Totally guilty of buying duplicates. I will say however it's usually because if I like something I want to make sure I have a backup when it gets ruined or worn out. It can get a little excessive sometimes tho. It's a habit you have to keep under control for sure. ;/ I found it interesting when you mentioned you wear a cool-tone wardrobe and no prints with few exceptions. I realized this describes my wardrobe pretty perfectly except I also don't have much color instead It's like 50 shades of grey over here. Yep even light gray, LOL! If it isn't white black gray denim or olive I probably won't wear it. I think this is my current version of a capsule wardrobe but I will say it has made shopping and getting dressed so much easier.

Some women look chic and effortless wearing basic white tee and straight leg jeans in lighter shade (combined with wind swept hair). I look nondescript and boring. Now I don’t buy or don’t wear it unless it’s under something or I have to (a casual uniform for a chorus I belong to). You got my vote on natural fibers, too. I try my best to wear 100% cotton, linen, wool, or silk unless it’s swimwear and workout outfit.

I buy for fantasy. I get obsessed when I see something I aspire to be. Last year it was a woman I saw in store in front of me. She wore the perfect latte color slouchy sweatshirt and dark shade of ecru baggy sweatpants. She looked so comfortable and chic, causing me months of search to recreate that outfit (I did, sort of). Now I am into coping a youtuber Yagai_no_moriko. She has the perfect nonchalant Japanese casual I love. I have been on a hunt to find items that resemble her outfits and accessories.

the white t shirt staples I hate the most 😂 of course not pointing to anyone but oh my god through out my trials, t shirt in general just makes me look frumpy & juvenile. I have tried printed t shirt, stripes t shirt. none of them worked. instead I opt for sweatshirt. although I only have 2 at the moment bcos you know, you have those lazy days. and polyester sweater or coat I despise a lot! once you wear wool/cashmere, you won't look back at those polyester sweaters. honestly so horrible. Yeah some basics are definitely good to have but if everyone has the same basics we're just going to look the same. I am sick and tired of the one hundredth time a KZfaq channel has told me I need to have a beige trench coat. I find them mind numbingly boring. I have a mint green Lyocell one that flows very nice and adds something to my outfits. One thing I love to wear is black turtle necks... I have many many many LOL. I "need" them in different versions. Thick, thin, very tight for layering, more lose, with a pattern, very simple, over sized, cropped, elegant, different materials... also Breton shirts... long, short, thick, thin... it's an obsession. You get the drift. It's become sort of a trademark of my style. I'm ok with that. And I agree with you on all other points.

Yes, completely agree about polyester. In addition to not keeping you warm (which is the main job of a sweater or coat),it also pills very quickly and looks worn out after a few wears. I thrifted 3 beautiful wool coats (black, cobalt blue and brown in slightly different silhouettes) this year and I can never go back!

i’m a “soft gamine” and something i really realized i do not look good in those bbl-like dresses or anything low cut. i look best in mini length dresses that don’t swallow my legs and round necklines. also flare jeans, which i love. but i only have 2 pairs and mostly wear skirts. i have curves in some parts of my body but not others, and i prefer looking basic but also accentuating my short height with large sweaters over my knees. ever since i dressed for my height and not in spite of it, i feel it creates a more “unconventional” look especially with dark colors. personally makes me happy to be a shortie now that i play around with my style!

Its great yr discovering these tips while yr young!! Here in warm California its never colder than 50 and I do have a couple polyester coats in bright colors which are adorable! These are blends which are nice even in a designer brand. And cashmere coats which I bought are lovely but can be very hot where I live and wool attracts moths. Being over 60 I dont buy uncomfortable shoes anymore, or heels, Sneakers or Italian loafers 👍Buying the same thing is a way to define ones style! I have about 10 white blazers and blue n white striped shirts, its my style👍coastal grandma and I love it. Climate and environment plays a huge part in comfort and style. But yr right, shopping can be addicting if we don’t ask ourselves why am I buying this?

Warm whites are one of the biggest mistakes I become aware of since watchin your channel. Definitely now I pay more attention to colours and always go for crisp whites, which I think suit me better. We evolve as well as our routines and duties and maybe so do our preferences. Used to be a big fan of light grey and now Im about decluttering it because I dont ever reach for it. Same for prints, flowewrewd shirts, specially. Better enjoy them from afar, as you say. The uniform printed shirt + jeans doesnt work anymore for me. But I still like a print piece as a statement piece in a simple outfit, like leo sneakers in an all Black outfit, etc. By the way I totally see u in all Black and pointed leo loafers 🙊 I miss your leo coat and leo jumper, you dont wear them anymore? I really enjoyed this one, wish u a nice christmas holiday, Naja, w lots of fun and relax 😊

This is the first video of yours I've seen and I've gotta admit you have hit the nail on the head here. I agree with all of these points. I'm cool toned also and I can't tell you how long it took me to realize that I can only wear cool whites. It was hard giving up cream and off whites but they just don't look good on me. Another big no-no for me is synthetic fabrics. Since I've been only wearing natural fabrics even just touching polyester I think it feels like rubber so when you said it's like wearing a trash bag with sleeves I laughed.

My pro color analysis 40 years ago recommended, among other colors, grays and purples (and silver jewelry). I tried to wear them for years, but never felt great in them, just sad-looking, pale and drab. It was liberating when I finally decided to purge them from my wardrobe, there are so many other colors that suit me that I really love wearing. White, taupe, blues, greens and pinks, mostly the lighter shades of them, make me look and feel good, so that’s what I wear. Plus, I always found purples impossible to style, they don’t go with anything else. As for jewelry metals, I only really love yellow metals and am now sorry I wasted so much money on silver items that I rarely wore.

I have many of the same things on my no-buy list, but I have a lot of trouble with getting the "perfect" item...because I will always see something I think will be better for my style. I have now resorted to the no multiples, or don't replace something that is good enough and still serving me well rules. It is tough thinking you will let that perfect item go, but there is a good chance you can find something you like when you actually need it. Light gray also makes me very sad (a terrible color for me). I am a print lover, however, especially when I find one in my color palette. Great video!

Light grey suits me more as I get older! I especially love silver/dove.grey but it quite hard to find. Very dark. Hades now make me feel depree. Mid to light and neutrals are a big part f my wardrobe. Colder tnes suit me but creams are ow better than bright whites but I'm neutral skin tone, so can go a bit both way. I only wear very few prints. Checks, stripes, paisley, but I'm still very fussy.

Every ‘capsule wardrobe’, every column about French style, tells you that a trenchcoat is a MUST. Not for everyone it ain’t! I have tried. But trench coats hate me. Whereas biker jackets (in leather or velvet) love me. Same with the puffer jackets that everyone wears (in black or dark brown) in the town where I live in Sicily. Again I have tried… and failed. A thick Scottish wool jumper works better for me.

Like hearing myself talk here - I feel terrible in light grey, stripes and polka dots. With prints I found a way, I have some colourful silk scarves at hand and when I feel like it I wrap a scarf around my neck or waist which changes the whole look. I also struggled with jeans as I have never liked them but thought I had to own at least one pair. I just got rid of my last one and now I don't own any jeans and I couldn't care less.

Only brand close to my style is Sezame but they have polyester and are not affordable. So many other sweaters are too much wool and too hot, heavy and itchy. Alpaca is softer but almost always cut with polyester and if not then the price is way out of reach. I’m willing to invest in good quality but within ‘reason’ over $200 is just not possible. Trying to find the style, color, quality ,material and affordable seems impossible.

How about wearing 100% cotton sweaters? I love them.

I'm with you on the tshirts, with short sleeves, they just don't suit me, as I have broad shoulders and a full bust, they always make me look bigger.

regarding the feather cuffs...one person's trend is another's timeless piece just like one person's timeless t-shirt is a big pass for you. And feathers imo are pretty timeless. They've had a place in every decade of fashion the past century.

I liked your comment it is not wrong, it is just not your style. For me this is true with Breton tops and jumpers. I like them on other people but not on me.

i can't understand how racerbacks are good for anyone's shoulders ...though i'm a bit perplexed how halter tops work on you (and they do!) but still broaden my own shoulders.

also, I've started terming LBD as "little boring dress". Staple, yes probably, but I'm over it.

Man kan faktisk købe "fjer armbånd" som man kan tilføje sine ting - tage af og på, alt efter om man ønsker fjer eller ej 😀

I find that the less people work in an office the more blazers they buy. Sort of overcompensating imo.

Uhh I'm sorry! It's not that rare, but it is rough, honestly. Imagine our ancestors who were allergic to wool though. What was their alternative? 😂 Hope you manage without 💪

Great video right up until the resources of the planet comment. What does that even mean. Saving money buying what makes you feel good is great. It has absolutely nothing to do with the plant.
