I think Nancy and Ann Wilson are seriously one of the most talented women in music. I admire them beyond words. Ann has such a powerful set of vocals and Nancy is immensely talented overall as a musician, and sings like an angel. This video is priceless, it should be entered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a 'behind the scenes' look at the recording process behind famous hits from certain decades. In this case the 1980's had decent technology, but it shows the dedication of the musicians to achieve perfection on their records. Heart is easily one of my favorite rock bands!

No autotune, no editing to the impossible, you can actually hear when the tape starts, something I haven't hear for years, pure talent and a great voice :-)
@Oneness1005 жыл бұрын
Using tape is more real time editing. Every time they stop the tape, they rewind so she can overdub and replace a bad line…. Singers still do it the same way, they just have digital so they can retake a line many times and edit the best ones together. Those that can't sing well, get Melodyne'd or AutoTuned. Melodyne is what they used on Justin Bieber for his first couple of albums, it's VERY hard to detect Melodyne because they can surgically fix each syllable if need be, so it's not over the entire vocal line like AutoTune. Melodyne requires more time to edit, thus costs more money to fix a track. AutoTune is by far a less costly route since it's either on/off and they can replicate it easy for live performances since they have AutoTune for live applications. I think Cher was the only one that used AutoTune in a manner where it was an effect on her voice rather than fixing bad vocals because Cher can actually sing without pitch problems, after that, they should have just taken AutoTune off the market. What's F'd up is the RIAA doesn't care if something is AutoTuned or Melodyne'd, and they don't care if someone has actual talent or not, they'll still give out Grammy's to any Tom, Dick and Idiot, as long as they can get enough votes from their peers. The RIAA needs to raise their standards on what is acceptable. Meaning, they should not allow any song or album with drum machines replacing drummers, samples of someone else's recording, AutoTune vocals, Melodyne vocals. Maybe the industry might improve, but unfortunately I don't see that happening anytime in the near future.

@@Oneness100 It's called a punch in but that's not the right way to do it. You let them get into the song and sing all the way through. Then you go back and note where you want to punch in any mistakes. The way a punch in works is you can roll tape and they sing along with it. They're actually hearing their recorded voice and then, while it's still in playback, you can hit the record button and it will start recording and they don't know that it's live at that moment. Then you hit it again and it stops recording. But all the while, it's in playback. It's seamless and not all jerky like this. I have no idea who's the engineer but I'd never record anyone this way.

I think people make too much of that sometimes. Fact is, most groups, unless groups that do a lot of dancing, tend to have one main lead singer. Most of the time they are the only ones who sing lead. It's clear to me that Nancy could easily sing lead more and maybe share leads sometimes if she really wanted or pushed to do. That's an ego thing to me sometimes though, which she clearly doesn't have. After finally starting to listen to more of their music, and not just the hits, I'm hearing a lot of harmonizing that appears to be mostly both of them. Something I wasn't expecting at all. It sounds greats and is giving me an even more respect for them I never expected to have.

I guess by the time the recording was done, Nancy was already exhausted... its not really easy being a singer, especially way back then, you need to have the talent the voice & patient to sing those line and repeating it over and over again the whole day... this is what we call real talent and singing...today's singers were just opening there mouth without even nothing coming out from it... just because of those computer effects they think they can sing, where in reality they don't and they can't.
@iMadrid118 жыл бұрын
+Divas Live If your talking about Antares Auto-Tune that haven't been invented yet. You no longer need actual talent because of that. The machine can auto-correct the pitch of your voice. This isolated track by Nancy isn't perfect. If you compare it with the actual vocals in the final albums. It had some audio effects added to the vocal track like compression, reverb, slight chorus.
