No way Mari is 5'11" lol. Naomi is somewhere around 5'10-11" and Mari has always clearly been shorter than her. Would also recommend the usage of "black people" vs. "black(s)" in the future. I know it's a small difference, but the connotation is apparent in terms of how humanizing it is. Particularly for black people.

That’s a personal decision. Naomi doesn’t need to take her father’s last name. There’s no law saying she should take one parent’s last name over the other. Even today, many South Americans take both their parent’s last name. Because Naomi kept her Japanese citizenship, I assume that this was one of the reasons that her and her sister took their mother’s last name.
