lets not gloss over the fact that Nardwuar drove 6 hours to the event and back (12 hours total) to do a five minute interview. Dedication to the craft.

pemberton is only 4 hrs from Vancouver.. ive done the drive .. 2hr to Whistler.. another 2 hr to Pemberton.. but youre absolutely right about the dedication to the craft on Nardwuars part

Pharrell hyped up Nard so much Jay Z had his "impress me" guard up
@Missperidoteyes114 жыл бұрын
Exactly
@Thomas9988223 жыл бұрын
Not AT ALL, JayZ actually has his guard completely down at first. You could tell Jay was entirely engaged and open they way he answered the first "who are you question" with a deep meaningful introspective thoughtful answer. And you think he had his guard up 🙄🤪 .. just terrible instincts. His guard went up ONLY after he makes himself vulnerable and gives such a revealing response and the clown Nardwuar answers back with a elementary school, tired, cliche, slightly mockingly level response of, "You are Jay-Z". 😒😑 ONLY THEN does Jay Z realize this clown had no real type of amazing interview skills whatsoever. Which ended up 100% correct, because Nardwuar had not a single thing even remotely interesting to say without his bag of gimmicky items he digs up from peoples past. Sooo many people conflate the reactions to artifacts Nardwuar finds to Nardwuar being some amazing interviewer. Literally ANYBODY alive can pull out obscure, sentimental items out of a bag and get the EXACT SAME reactions. Its NOT Nardwuar its Nardwuars goodie bag. Have him do a interview face to face without all the surprise gifts and you'd get EXACTLY what you got here a lame, uninteresting, flat, uneventful 4 min fizzle out

@mitchellmoore28758 жыл бұрын
+Press Pause Productions - Man, I was JUUUST about to say the EXACT same thing My Man.. That Kinda sucked (NOT that Nard, NOR the interview sucked by ANY means though..!) that the interview was so VERY Short, & not very In-Depth comparatively to his other interviews (: /) (Some of which can last up to like 30 Mins or Longer!)... But with everyone else he interviews, he has plenty of time for his prep work & research (Of which he is Notably know for, & honesty probably the BEST interviewer of Artists/Entertainers ever BECAUSE of that fact!) Ive also considered the possibility that, BECAUSE Jay-Z is such a BIG Name artist (I would think ONE of the MOST Notable in Nards career, 'least that I KNOW of anywhoo...) that it's possible that ALOT of the information about his Past has been WELL "Controlled", & "Regulated" if you will (Understandably too, as he IS the Head of a Hip-Hop Empire, Dynasty, & is Himself a Hip-Hop Mogul, After all...) - rendering many of the various methods and avenues that Nard generally employs to gather his information fairly useless, you know what I mean..?? BUT, that could ALSO just be pure speculation as well (Though it SOUNDS probable..) One thing is for sure though, I WOULD absolutely LOVE to see a Nardwuar VS Jay-Z 2, where Nard is actually allowed his standard Prep/Research/"NSA-Level-Intel-Gathering"-Time... Fingers Crossed for that day (:D)!! Nevertheless, I LOVE Nardwuar, & THOROUGHLY respect his work too. He does something that NOONE else does, by showing us an obscure & relatively unknown side of the artists & Entertainers that we all love & look up to, by Venturing into the "Interviewing-Unknown", & totally Humanizing these people, & revealing them to be the relatable, everyday, sometimes SURPRISINGLY Normal people that they actually are, when the Veil of Media, Hollywood, Public Persona and Business is Pulled away!!

(A late response I know) I completely agree with you on the lack of "wow" moments. However using no real prep time as an excuse... I don't know if that's fair. Maybe that's just me. Nardwuar says the Jay-Z interview is several months after the one with N.E.R.D and he even asks Pharrell to hook him up... if Nardwuar haven't done his research etc. by then, isn't it his own fault? Sure he might have gotten the call out of the blue, but at that stage shouldn't it be a question of Nardwuar just having his material ready in some box or w/e? Maybe I misunderstood something? Still though, much respect to Nardwuar and his research before these interviews.

@ZBR_ProXP8 жыл бұрын
lol you both missed the point. the point of nardwaur's interviewing style is to expose, and most people simply state their name after that question. jay z however thought he was so important that he spat off a bunch of sheepish garbage about how he came from nothing and now he is on top.
@GypsyKiller167 жыл бұрын
Lol he said some basic ass cookie cutter shit. Sounds like something he'd rehearse for white folks.
@james5757307 жыл бұрын
Sub Dork Productions sheepish garbage? everything he said was facts, the interview exposed how humble and appreciative jay is for being in a privileged position (American dream) because he also acknowledged how they are a lot of skilled people where he came from that are not there because they are not alive or got caught up and he could of ended up dead or in jail so he is happy for where he is right now, that is basically what he said in the beginning of the interview how is that sheepish?

The blame is definitely on Pharrell for this one 😂 he hyped up Nardwuar in the wrong way I suppose. I'm guessing Jay was expecting some sort of philosophical shit judging by the first response and this was way before the internet blew up so he couldn't really search for it as quick.
@J-Hue2 жыл бұрын
Nah. It's solely on Nardwuar. If an interviewer struggles to get a good interview out of an extremely famous person who's clearly willing to give in depth answers, then the interviewer dropped the ball big time.

@JohnDoe-us1ek5 жыл бұрын
Najee Dunn Not necessarily. You have a lot more thought and conscious when you’re sober and you speak about things. When you’re high or drunk, saying the first thing that comes to mind isn’t always a good thing nor correct. If someone disrespects me when I’m drunk or high I’ll say fuck you or lash out. Sober me would shrug it off or just laugh at someone so stupid. Not sure where this notion comes from lol..

Nardwuar should have dropped his bit at the beginning, and perhaps asked some questions about what growing up in Marcy during the eighties was like, maybe some lesser known emcees from the area. He was open to a deep discussion. And the question about Glastonbury, he cut Jay off as he was about to elaborate about the situation. Really not a great nardwuar interview, I know he had a very short notice, but he could have turned down the goofiness and take the fact that he is interviewing the most renowned rapper (alive) more seriously. Same with Nas.
@RatatRatR2 жыл бұрын
Yep, I agree. Nardwuar's ritualistic commitment to his shtick was the first thing that made the interview go sour. He should've found a way to roll with the vibe Jay-Z had given with his first answer instead of making the whole thing drop dead like he did.

@Thomas9988223 жыл бұрын
No Jay Z is extremely private and there arent many items to dig up from his past like many other artists. The interview was ruined because Nardwuar didnt have his usual box of gifts.
