This visualization shows ocean surface currents around the world during the period from June 2005 through Decemeber 2007. The visualization does not include a narration or annotations; the goal was to use ocean flow data to create a simple, visceral experience.
This visualization was produced using NASA/JPL's computational model called Estimating the Circulation and Climate of the Ocean, Phase II or ECCO2.. ECCO2 is high resolution model of the global ocean and sea-ice. ECCO2 attempts to model the oceans and sea ice to increasingly accurate resolutions that begin to resolve ocean eddies and other narrow-current systems which transport heat and carbon in the oceans.The ECCO2 model simulates ocean flows at all depths, but only surface flows are used in this visualization. The dark patterns under the ocean represent the undersea bathymetry. Topographic land exaggeration is 20x and bathymetric exaggeration is 40x.

Interesting. It shows the Coriollis effect and the formation of individual cyclones that may travel thousands of kilometers. This explains why it is so difficult to predict the weather

Imagine if the power of the oceans could be harnessed. Just like the wind turbines, underwater turbines could turn into electricity the ocean currents, is expensive... but imagine it in a long run!

+Akira Mishtokaru Hmmm, great idea! But I wonder if such a thing would interfere with the natural flow of the currents. I hope it wouldn't impede anything..
@GrayShark09
@GrayShark09 8 жыл бұрын
hollisprophet The ocean currents are the engines of the climate, conveyor belts that move the heat around the planet. If we harness some of this energy, the ocean currents would become weaker by the percentage that is taken out. So yes! The wnderwater current turbines should be placed strategicaly is such way that we dond alterate the climate.

That's pretty harsh there Miss Krystle. He was just amazed by the intricacy of ocean currents. They are pretty to look at this way, and they affect life globally, plus water is our most abundant resource, it is the key to life. When someone wants to know if a planet can sustain life. The first question that's asked is can liquid water exist there. Water is almost supernatural in a way, and we know so little about it.

Correct current mean water revolve around earth due to wind direction or earrth revolve is to be confirmed but most probably due to wind direction. Due to hot and cold temperatures in atmosphere. Why wind? Answer is old traditional water tarpaulin transport (boat ship, sail)
