To be fair to Hendrick, Lowe's is the whole reason Fernandez was put in that car. They were basically part owners of his ALMS Team and were involved in the Busch race in Mexico City, so they wanted him the car for that race. The other races were just "bonus" runs for him.

Yeah, and that’s exactly why I personally believe the “Overhype” of certain up and coming drivers. Heck, Chad Knaus could’ve been his crew chief, and they’d still would’ve had bad results.....

However it was quite nice, what Fernandez did there: Zero experience in these cars, crashed in qualifying (resulting in a 40th starting spot) and then finished tenth… His oval starts at the end of the season however were about the same fiasco as those three "development drivers" and for the next years he settles for road courses only.

I would say that Jack Roush is more responsible for finding Kyle Busch. Remember that he was fastest in practice one time when CART officials threw him out because of the Master Settlement Agreement (Busch was 16 at the time)…the CART race was being sponsored by Marlboro; a subsequent rule change caused him to lose an expected ride in the 99 Roush truck (minimum age of 18).

It always amazed me how these teams chose their drivers. I was a regular at the short tracks in Indiana during the oughts, and Boston Reid wouldn't have made it in my top 25 of drivers I would have picked. I watched drivers consistently out drive the likes of Eric Jones, Ryan Blaney, David Stremme, Steve Wallace, Chase Elliot, John Hunter, Dalton Armstrong, etc and no one gave those drivers a chance despite them being much better drivers. I know names played a big part in some of these drivers, but you would think someone would want to sign the drivers that were routinely beating them as well.

Idk Adrian Fernandez was one of the most fun drivers to watch in IndyCar and IMO wasnt too bad in the 5 compared to the other 3

It’s easy to call a program a bust when two of the three leaders of the program (John & Ricky) die in a plane crash in the first year of operation. Maybe it hurt looking at Ricky’s car? I dunno. I’m just a dad.

Krisiloff was the only one of those guys I remember, even the 5 car is my favorite car, even in the Xfinity/Busch series.

I don't think that Hendrick/Gordon had actually choosed Fernandez, appears to be more a pressure from Lowe´s (their sponsor at Grand-Am at the time) than anything else. Painful to see one of the best Indycar drivers from the "golden age" (90s) doing so bad, anyways.

Laughing at everyone fighting about Nascar drivers that dont even race anymore and still eat and breath Nascar but yet they weren't champions so they didnt have the drive. Id like to see any of these so called fans go thru what racecar drivers go thru, the heat, stress, andbvb the physical pressure's pulling on your body from doing 200MPH around a cirle for hours at a time and I've seen people say Dalr Jr just wanted to pick up a pay check thats absurd and completely false.
