In this video I visit the grave of one of the star of the NASCAR Winston Cup Series - the man known as the Gentle Giant. Buddy Baker. Buddy loved going fast and was especially successful on the Super Speedways. In a career that spanned 33-years and 700 races, Buddy found victory circle 19 time and finished in the top ten 311 times. After his driving career ended Buddy moved from the Drivers seat to the Broadcast Booth. Buddy passed away on August 10, 2015 and is resting in Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, North Carolina.

My family and I attended the Talladega 500 in 1975. It was rained out and they postponed the race until the following Sunday. We went on vacation and circled back to Talladega the next Saturday to catch the race. We stayed at a Holiday Inn a few miles from Talladega that Saturday night. I will never forget going down to the pool to swim and there was Buddy relaxing by the pool. He could not have been any nicer to a 13 year old kid who was in awe at meeting the great Buddy Baker. He won the race the next day in the Bud Moore #15 Ford Torino. Great memory!

I saw his 3 straight wins at Talladega in 1975-76. He was dominant in those races. No. 15 Ford Torino owned by Bud Moore.

Last time I saw Buddy was at Lowes in Mooresville around 2015. He was behind me looking for a particular bulb as I was also. Always very nice guy. His Dad drove a City Bus during the week and my Dad tells of him picking him up as a teen and taking him around town and was know for being a race car driver. Thanks for this video. Another fine job
