Not just the best episode of Black Mirror, but the greatest short sci-fi story ever on television. I'm a 52 year-old straight man with kidney failure who was a teen in the 80's, and this hit me so hard. I wish heaven could be a place on earth.

Fernanda Boiaski Its notorious for having bad endings, this one actually had a suprisingly good ending. And even then I still have these doubtfull thoughts like what if they get tired of each other or etc. Black mirror is very good at slapping reality in your face.

The only thing that bothers me in ppl jumping into this episode without watching the others, is that what made me happier when I was watching it was the fact the last thing I expected was a happy ending. Its even kinda funny that of all shows, fkn BLACK MIRROR gave us gays a happy ending, like wtf! Glad u enjoyed it, and if u liked the concept of it, you should definitely watch it all! it's only 12 episodes btw :)

I think it is better. When you understand the nature of the show you are less surprised by the turn of events.

Great Owl Sure, but thats vilid for any other episode. Like, if you watch any other episode if its the first time ur watching black mirror, youre surprised by how crazy and good the concept of the show is, and then u get used to it. This one, even the ppl who watched it all before, were surprised by the happy ending. What I mean is, the kind of surprise she had, could happen in any other episode, but the surprise ppl who werent expecting how things turned out in "San Junipero" was special, i even cried :') haha
@claya75806 жыл бұрын
Sorry, it just seems like a happy ending on the surface...the creators are testing the assumption that the audience is capable of critical thinking after 3 seasons...Yes, it is very dark, like all the episodes. and the theme running through the entire show... Despite the brilliantly produced uplifting ending (and putting irrelevant sexuality aside), the underlying theme is control of one's consciousness (call it the soul for lack of a better term) beyond the grave. If people could (willingly) be perpetuated in heaven, the same applies to being (unwillingly) sent to hell (think death row inmates or political 'enemies'). Black Mirror is one heck of a show that touches on things everyone needs to think about...can't wait for Season 4.

Black Mirror is - as the title suggest - a dark mirror reflecting our own society, usually with futuristic technology themes. I've watched the first two seasons, and let me tell you, this is by FAR the happiest ending (thank god). Usually it's a lot grimmer. Some episodes have really shaken me up. You're usually thrown into a world, and as the story progresses you start to understand it. So confusion is a big part of BM. If you decide to watch other episodes, I really recommend NOT binge-ing it. Some episodes (like "White Bear") still fuck me up, just thinking about it. And not in a good way.
@vredesduifje7 жыл бұрын
Damn, now I really have to watch it - cuz yk, all about the angst here :P And one reason why I haven't started it is indeed bcs it needs undevided attention and not-binge material.
@BannedFromTheaters7 жыл бұрын
it's not just angst. It's nauseating, throat-clenching, and very uncomfortable from time to time. I seriously cannot think of White Bear without starting to feel sick to my stomach. So when I say to be careful to proceed, I really mean it! But the show does raise interesting questions. If you're gonna watch another episode, I'd recommend 1x02. That one stands out to me the most from the first two seasons. (also it has the actress who played Sybil in Downton Abbey so that's always a plus).

Like The Twilight Zone, ALL episodes of BLACK MIRROR are "stand-alone." Also like TZ, some of the stories have dark endings in which evil gets its comeuppance but also where some people get, should you pardon the bluntness, fucked-over. BUT TZ did have happy endings and "San Junipero" reminded me of the TZ stories in which a character GETS ANOTHER CHANCE at happiness and/or to do the right thing: "Static," which "SJ" REALLY reminded me of! (Instead of computers and VR it was about a radio that "led" to the Past.)I'll mention others later, I gotta get to sleep soon.

When i tried to tell them how it ended and what the character Kelly does towards the end as her ultimate gesture of love, i just became totally overwhelmed and couldn't get the words out and started weeping and saying "wow, wow" with a smile on my face as tears rolled down my cheeks. Natalie, you know what's crazy ?! It is that spiritual currents say that we here on Earth in our life are experiencing a game where our souls are immersed in this 3D reality experiencing / living situations, and when we die we return to our real reality, which is the reality of the spirit / free conscience of the body. And about the episode, I loved this episode SO MUCH! The two actresses are very very beautiful and I also found the redhead looks like Sharon Belle!! hahah Kisses from Brazil

if you want an emotional story about death, grief and second chances in a different way, try Be Right Back episode 1 of season 2 of black mirror. Warning, it is quite emotional and will probably make you sad. But black mirror is more about how technology interferes in people's lives and is basically a commentary on society. Another emotional story could be Fifteen Million Merits, episode 2 of season 1 of black mirror which contains a love element but I warn you it, like many episodes, are a more dystopian view of society and how we relate with technology.

I think Nosedive had a happy ending too. Not as glorious as San Junipero, but liberating. I think we can expect more "happy" stories in the next season since it's going to have another 6 episodes and according to Brooker longer seasons allows them to incoporate more varied stories.

It’s one of those rare “lightning in a bottle” moments in tv show form. As a straight (tho, mostly asexual) girl, there sadly isn’t a lot of gay media that’s relatable or accessible for me, cause the themes are generally very specific to things I’ve never experienced (I blame a lack of inclusion in entertainment, which is slowly getting better). This was completely relatable tho. And heartwarming beyond measure. I think that’s why homophobic people misunderstand gay culture… it’s so removed from what they recognize they can’t wrap their heads around the fact the feelings are the same. Like when I tell people my favorite kind of love is between little girls and old men. They get creeped out and instantly label it pedophilia; but I’m talking about the love of my life, my grandpa. That love was deeper and more pure than any romance (little miss sunshine is a great example of this). Anywho, long rant, I’m just so happy more people are discovering this episode!

You should watch supergirl! The second season gives one of the main females a coming out arc & introduces a gay poc too! The writers have also addressed the bury your gays trope and have so far promised to avoid that at all costs and are addressing how much they just want their characters to live full lives and be happy! A lot of people watch the second season alone for the pretty gays but the first season is also really good - it's a very witty, positive, sweet, feminist show and there's an amazing sister dynamic at its core, a lot like Wynonna Earp! You confusion stemmed from the fact that you jumped into this show in the middle (more toward the _end_ of the watchable ones, but that's maybe just me). Yes, it was an anthology show, but their are tie-in concepts throughout that would have quelled that confusion. That said, the series is very dark, disturbing and may not have been for you, especially if you started at the beginning. It was excellent though, for the first four series, if you can stomach it all. I enjoyed the reaction, though. I dunno, there's also something that bugs me about people recommending this episode to gay women to watch blind. Like "d00d, if you know they're not in for a £ on the whole series, then don't bother trying to avoid spoilers, and give them a little background along with the recc!" Almost borders on fetishistic. Like "Hey, I see that you're gay, and I know a gay episode of a show you probably wouldn't like, but you should just watch it and be confused for the first 3/4 of it! Yay!!" I dunno, man. Seen it elsewhere. Weird.
@honestlynicolai8 ай бұрын
This was years ago, so I don't really remember much of what I said in this video. But I'd like to explain that what you think "borders on fetishistic", stems from a deep thirst from the lack of LGBT+ content throughout history. Queer people crave queer content because for years we have been consuming heteronormative media and not seeing ourselves. And the very few queer characters we had got portrayed as the enemy or were just killed off. I recommend you read up on the history of queer representation in media and then maybe it'll be more clear why so many of us are willing to just jump right into an episode like this. I know what kind of show Black Mirror is now. Even watched a couple of seasons and I think it's fucking awesome! This episode was a breath of fresh air and I'm sure it meant a lot to many queer women. I don't identify as a queer woman anymore, but I sure still appreciate it. Thanks for watching
@rollomaughfling3808 ай бұрын
@@honestlynicolai I understand your confusion. I didn't explain that fully. Perhaps I can further twist it so I look more dumb by saying: What I meant by "bordering on fetishistic" wasn't to do with queer representation at large (I've worked in the TV [Film, and other media] industry the past 30 years, alongside many who are working toward the goal of breaking the white, male CIS, "Abercrombie & Fitch" hold). This is one of my top-3 episodes of Black Mirror. It's just that certain White/CIS-identifying accounts I've seen on many other queer/black accounts (I totally get you no longer identify as queer.) more recently are still gleefully recommending this episode to queer women, with zero context, as if to say "Hey I know a bi/gay lady! Check out this confusing episode of a series you may hate." It'd be like "Find and coherently react to only the last 1/4 of the middle act of *_Cloud Atlas._* It's just bad practice, recommendation-wise.
