My 12-year-old son falls asleep every night with your podcast on. He has been doing this now for well over two years. We started listening to this as a family on a road trip back in 2020 when y’all had 3 episodes out. He quickly bailed on us listening together as a family and went solo. Can you all give him a shoutout and let him know it’s time for bed? Goooood night, Will Turner.

Hello folks! This podcast has been such a great blessing to me. THANK YOU!!! Interesting thing to remember: the Romans used chisels (STRAIGHT pieces of medal) to tap their "writings" into stone. So, all of their letters and numbers needed to be a straight line. Even the C, picture a sideways V. You guys are the best. Keep on doing what you do.

Nate was so proud of himself for “learning” Roman numerals. Then 30 seconds later when talking about how ridiculous it is, in his example for writing checks, he used the number 15; and proceeded to say, “you’d have to write XXXXXIILLVV”….when 15 is literally only 2 letters, XV, and just as short as using numbers. Terrible example, but exactly what I expect from the podcast. Please never change.

I was stung around 24 times by cicada killers in July of 2022. I was backing up around the edges of one our ponds mowing with our open cab tractor. I can only assume I found their nest, I began getting hit and being I was facing our neighboring pastures and knowing the tractors safety shutoff on the seat is disabled I fixed the steering at a couple trees in the fence line and jumped off. After jumping one fence and running 150 yards around a pond that very possibly could have ended this whole torture I was met by my wife. She began spraying me with the 110° water hose as I stopped dropped and rolled as if I were on fire. We later got in our farm truck and drove though the one hole in the tree line of the fence larger than 4’ that the tractor just so happened to find. We followed the shredders path around 500 yards into the neighboring pasture where the tractor finally stalled out on a a tree. I was getting my Benadryl Bates on for a while needless to say.

Been listening for a while, and imagine my surprise when the first time I watched it on KZfaq I realized I have actually seen each of you (except maybe Dusty) at various comedy shows. I saw Brian when he opened for Leanne Morgan in Chicago in Sept 2021. I saw Aaron when he opened for Kathleen Madigan last Sept in Chicago. And I saw Nate at his show in Chicago in November. I know Nate about 3-4 openers including his Dad at that show, so if one of those was Dusty, then I saw Dusty too. Your podcast cracks me up, keep up the good work. Laura Spearman.

Ok after hearing the cicada show I knew I had to tell this story I had just heard a few days before your episode dropped. In this episode you spoke about girls name and about Roman numerals. Well I just read the craziest thing, not sure how true it is or if it was urban legend but there was a couple having a baby and wanted to give the baby a unique girl’s name. They liked the name Kaitlyn but couldn’t decide on the spelling and wanted something different. So the husband came up with replacing the “ate” sound with the roman numeral 8 so this poor baby’s name is going to be KVIIILYN. (VIII being the Roman numeral for 8). Hope they pick a “normal” middle name the kid can go by instead. Hahaha. Love your podcast. Keep up the good work! Laura Spearman

Grew up in rural Southern Oregon. As kids, my cousin and I would pick the cicada shells off the trees and crunch the shells on the ground. We get cicadas every year here in OR, unlike in Tennessees broods, and the shell crunch is oddly satisfying. Give it a try!

Hey guys! I loved your discussion about Aaron playing golf by throwing the ball. In high school I had a Sports Lit. class where Mr. Oliver took us out to the football field to end the debate about how far we could throw a golf ball compared to a baseball. A couple 500 yard holes in a row would wear out an untrained arm.

Cicadas play a significant role in the ecosystem and provide several benefits: 1. Ecosystem engineering: Cicadas help shape their environment through their burrowing activities, which can alter soil structure and create pathways for water and air to reach plant roots. 2. Nutrient cycling: Cicadas feed on plant sap, and their waste acts as a natural fertilizer, enriching the soil with nutrients. 3. Seed dispersal: Cicadas help spread seeds by consuming fruit and then depositing the seeds in new locations. 4. Food source: Cicadas are an important food source for various animals, including birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals. 5. Ecological balance: Cicadas help maintain the balance of their ecosystems by serving as a food source for predators and competing with other herbivores for resources. 6. Soil aeration: Cicadas' burrowing activities help aerate the soil, improving soil quality and allowing water and air to penetrate deeper. 7. Carbon sequestration: Cicadas help store carbon in the soil through their burrowing activities, which can contribute to climate regulation. Overall, cicadas play a vital role in maintaining the health and diversity of ecosystems, and their unique life cycle and behaviors have a significant impact on the environment. 🤖 🤣 your welcome 🤗

Yes, cicadas have been revered and worshiped in various cultures throughout history. Here are a few examples: 1. Ancient Greeks: Cicadas were associated with the god Apollo and symbolized rebirth and regeneration. 2. Chinese culture: Cicadas are considered a symbol of good luck, longevity, and rebirth. They're often depicted in art and literature as a representation of the soul or the cycle of life. 3. Japanese culture: Cicadas are associated with the summer season and are considered a symbol of impermanence and the fleeting nature of life. 4. Inca culture: Cicadas were considered a symbol of fertility and abundance. 5. Some African cultures: Cicadas are associated with the afterlife and are believed to guide the spirits of the dead to the afterlife. These are just a few examples of the cultural significance and reverence for cicadas in various societies. Their unique life cycle and distinctive sounds have captivated people's imagination and inspired spiritual and symbolic meanings. Sincerely (bot) AI 🤣

I was a high school Latin teacher for a few years and one of my students *thought* she got her sister’s birthday tattooed in Roman numerals on her arm. Rather than spelling out “1994”, she got the numbers 19, 90, and 4 all smashed together into one long number that isn’t readable. I panicked that I was a terrible teacher until one of my other students texted me to say, “I saw the Instagram post. She’s an idiot.”

The map is sorely mistaken. As someone who grew up in az (which is on the left side of the map, Nate), I grew up very much knowing what cicadas were because we had them every summer. Not only does az have cicadas, but they have a wide variety of different kinds, all on different cycles of emerging, so there's some species emerging every summer. The map would lead one to believe only the states on the right side had cicadas, but that's simply not true.

I asked AI Google Gemini to tell a joke in the style of Nate Bargatze. The result is below. I think your job is safe. Gemini aint got nothing on you. "Alright, here's a joke in the style of Nate Bargatze: I went to the grocery store the other day, and there was this whole section dedicated to "adult lunchables." Now, I'm all for convenience, but who exactly are these adults who don't know how to put crackers and cheese in a Tupperware container? I mean, is there a support group? "Hi, my name's Steve, and I've been struggling with lunch assembly for 35 years." And what happens when these adults become even more adult? Do they graduate to "senior lunchables?" Just a bunch of prunes and denture cream all neatly packaged? Maybe that's the key to aging - you slowly lose the ability to make lunch decisions until eventually someone's just pureeing your dinner straight into your feeding tube. Kind of takes the excitement out of retirement, doesn't it?"

Dear Dusty: all my sympathy. My husband and I bought a fridge from Home Depot. The installers messed up the water connection, which we realized two weeks later when water seeped up from the floor; by that time water had been flooding our walls and cabinets for two weeks. We then had 6 months with no kitchen while we waited for Home Depot’s insurance to pay for damages. Not a fan. Dear Computer Boys: We definitely get cicadas in Las Vegas. Summer isn’t summer without those things blaring in your ears. Maybe enlist AI to fact check for you.
