We all know raccoons are cute, but mischievous. They’ve earned a bad reputation from their devious actions in our neighborhoods. But, they’re also extraordinarily smart. So as our homes keep spreading into theirs, raccoons may just be the little critter that’s smart enough to use us and our resources for their own good.
From National Geographic Media, Nat Geo Explores breaks down the worlds of Science, History, and Animals. In each episode, scientists and historians explain in fascinating detail everything from the connection between germs and diseases to how we became obsessed with Mars.

Yeah I bet they'll become domesticated just like dogs. I have a raccoon hound (a type of hunting dog) and she's wayy too smart for her own good too! We had to put child locks on all our cabinets and we don't have kids 😂 she uses her paw to open them and get into the trash or steal and tear up my cook books 🙄

I’ve rehabilitated a few raccoons over the years and they are truly intelligent critters. Definitely awesome animals that deserve our respect and compassion specially since we have to share the world with them and this goes for all animals they all deserve our respect. Every year humans take up more of the world pushing animals closer to us and pushing them to the edge of extinction. We’re loosing more species every year and these animals are vital to healthy ecosystems so we all need to learn to live with them and co exist together and be more mindful of how we all effect the world around us. They need our help just as much as we need them 🤷‍♂️

@@pumpkinchow do you think we can make them smart enough to know how to deal with Burmese python eggs because if anyone can do that I’d like to see him or her pull it off
@pumpkinchow
@pumpkinchow Жыл бұрын
@@jamessparkman6604 the issue with that is the pythons stay wrapped around the eggs until they hatch very rarely will they leave their eggs unattended. So the raccoons would have to fight off the python for the eggs which is very unlikely. The raccoons will eat baby pythons when they come across each other but the pythons definitely have the upper hand and advantage. No matter what anyone does they will never be able to get all the pythons out of the wild all we can do is keep the numbers down and learn to co exist

I once went camping and I put the bench at our campsite on top of our cooler to keep it wedged tightly shut and those raccoons straight up lifted the bench off of it

We had one removed from our attic recently. At first it scared me before finding out what was making noise up there but once we found out it was a mom raccoon protecting its little ones, I felt bad and of course made sure they were removed in the most humane way possible and they were. The company we hired placed tennis balls in the attic that had the smell of male raccoon urine to scare them off and it worked. Left on their own. Genuinely hope they are ok even though they cost us money to remove them and now having to remove/replace the insulation.

This is for Dr Amran. Here in Louisiana everyone has crawfish ponds. My bf has raccoons getting into the crawfish traps, eat the crawfish then put the peelings back in the traps . How bizarre is that?!?!??

Our lives definitely evolve their lives. It's just like cops and robbers or good and bad, just about any animal with a brain will develop a offense for any defense that you can imagine.
