Wow Nathan just stumbled across your channel. This is amazing work. I am working on an E31 S85 swap and see that I may actually need to replace my Vanos pump! Definitely the line, but maybe the pump too!

Hey, you're making good progress so take your time and it will all come good. If you were in the UK I would say - its not as if you are going to be able to drive it anywhere for the next few weeks so just concentrate on finding the right parts at sensible prices.

Another GREAT video! Please keep posting and/all detail on VANOS H.P. pump. Gears/mesh good? Have researched and new pumps have "longer teeth"?? Also great find on H.P. line from pump to distribution lines at water pump.

@Jon E Education has nothing top do with being able or willing to fix a modern M5 your comment is what is known in educated circles as a category error and if you think these are more fun than some of the simpler BMW's including M5's early M3's etc then I suggest you drive some of the earlier cars.

For anyone interested, on the Redish Autosport channel they've just completed this job. Redish also replaced the oil sump with the newer dual-drain plug sump (extra oil drain is upfront), upgraded oil chain tensioners, upgraded oil spray nozzels/piston oil squirters, upgraded sprocket (longer teeth) wheel for the VANOS high pressure pump and BE con-rod bearings w/BMW bolts. Sheesh', I'm not sure if Nathan will go that far with this project but I'm very intrigued non the less . . .

Good catch Nathan - this would defo have bit you in the proverbial had you not attended to all these things. Just goes to show you can't skimp on maintenance on these cars. PO must have lost a fair bit of cash on the price he paid vs sold. His loss is our gain, and hopefully yours too Nathan! :-) Keep up the great work

Great work. I would vote to replace those two coolant hoses. Looks like those hoses attach directly to the engine. The top hose on my daughter’s 2009 328i separated at the plastic connector from the plastic dry rotting. Engine lost all coolant and overheated. Luckily N52 engine seems to be ok. I am sure you do not want that to happen to the M5. Good luck.

Hmm finding parts is going to be tough. Try calling Bimmer Performance Center or looking up a tuning company in germany. You might find improved parts for this car there. I do not hear good things about GRAF in these performance engines.

Impacts are alot quicker unless your working on an older car and snap off bolts and then the quicker goes away when you have to drill out and tap broken bolts😖 But I agree it is a lifesaver when it comes to elbow and shoulder problems been there done that. Wonder how much of that leaky hose material is swimming around and plugging up things🤔 Been there to hoping someone did so maintenance on a high mileage car and in that case unless you can find out some history on the car you can wish with one hand and 💩 in the other you know the rest right Nathan 😁🐄💨

custom ones where you can press out the bearings because this junk doesn't last. why is it that my old datsun from 1978 has a/c idler puller bearings that are original? Its because they put in a good quality sealed bearing
