Thank you for showing us how to transfer the paper pattern (not a stencil but rather from the book) onto transfer paper. Also another idea is to use old fashioned (if you can get it) overhead projector slides for the transferring. I had no idea how to get the designs out of the books. Also someone suggested to me to use the adult colouring books! Apparently some have wonderful quilting type patterns!

You are amazing. I love your work. I've had a long arm quilting machine for a number of years now and even though I've tried custom quilting, I hate it because I don't know what to do. I live in Australia and there are not that many long arm quilting teachers here so much of what I had done is trial and error. Watching your tutorial has given me the confidence to give custome quilting another go and have a rest from doing pantos. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, I really appreciate it.

Thank you for clearing up some of these issues for me. My son is an artist and has an old x-ray reading light box. Wow, what a bright light box that is! Sometimes we have to mute it down with tissue or paper, but it works great!

Great idea of opening the dining room table to create a light box; I have a couple of large pieces of plastic that I can use to bridge the gap. I use a window when I'm tracing appliques but it's nice to know there's an alternative especially when you have larger pieces to mark.

Thank you for a wonderfully informative video. I am about to start the quilting on my first quilt. Before watching your video I had no idea how to get even patterns on my quilt. You explained points in very easy to understand language, and made me feel that I could confidently mark a pattern on my quilt. I especially liked how you broke things down into individual steps and clearly showed and explained to the viewer what you were doing. Many thanks from Elizabeth, Kapiti Coast, New Zealand.

Hello, I have done this with the paper stitching around the design with multiple pieces of paper, however only the top one can I see the design. It seems a lot of work to have to draw each of the papers, so guess what I gave up. The good news I learned to free motion quilting and use designs for which I have copied by pencil a few times to get it in my memory. Thanks for the tutorial, easy to listen to.

I wonder if you could rub some chalk in the perforated paper to mark the outline.
@NationalQuiltersCircle
@NationalQuiltersCircle 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Nagarita,Yes, that could possibly work to mark the outline. The only thing I would caution about if using this technique is that the more the chalk gets rubbed into the fabric the harder it can be to remove. Rather than just being able to brush the chalk off of the surface of the quilt you may have to wash it to remove the chalk.Hope this helps!

Do you use a larger needle (#16) when you layer the Golden Threads paper. I always feel guilty disposing of my jean needles after a garment. Maybe the holes would be to large. I have never used the Golden Threads and I think the layered idea is a great way to get multiples. My eyes are not as good as they use to be, who's really are! Thanks for sharing some great ideas and methods.
@shariont123
@shariont123 9 жыл бұрын
Brenda Trump I've used typing paper and gone over with unthreaded needed and then used the pounce to transfer markings to the quilt. I used a jean needle so I could pick up more chalk on the quilt. I also slightly mist the fabric before running the pounce over the holes which makes more chalk adhere & if I know I'm going to wash the quilt afterwards, I spray the chalk with hairspray which helps it stay on longer while I complete my quilting.

Hi, Here is the paper that was mentioned in this tutorial as the one to use for tracing : www.goldenthreads.com/shop/product/golden-threads-quilting-paper-12/ If you want to create your own design and cut it out to then use as a stencil you can use template plastic, cardstock paper or even cut up an old file folder and use that.
