I like how chill Davey Martinez was. He knew exactly what the call was and that there was no reason to argue with umpires. He just took it on the chin and told his guy hey that better not happen again. Other managers should take notes.

I love Davey Martinez too, but I think he’s a better fit as a bench coach than a manager…then again, I suppose it’s not really his fault the Nationals gave him an old roster and are now rebuilding Nonetheless, I’m surprised they’re keeping him around for the rebuild, considering how many managers they ran through in the decade before hiring him who ostensibly had better records (Dusty Baker in particular)

Bring Chapman was unavoidable. The game before they used 5 relievers other than Chapman. The game you are talking about went to 11 innings and use 5 other relievers too. As a runner in a pickle, your taught yo run into a fielder for interference. In my opinion, As a catcher, you kind of want to throw it once and GTFO of the pickle. Plus way to many throws to get the runner.

@kevinmoore2929
@kevinmoore2929 2 жыл бұрын
@Joe Ketner after Little League, players practice this one or two times a year. In The Show, you don't have that many open days where you can work on it during the season, so they might spend 30 minutes one day in Spring Training. The average college team will work the practice after the game on it if they blow it so they may do it three or four times a year.

The reason the batter was awarded home was because of the Obstruction rule. "The obstructed runner shall be awarded at least one base beyond the base he had last legally touched before the obstruction." The other runner gets third because "Any preceding runners, forced to advance by the award of bases as the penalty for obstruction, shall advance without liability to be put out." So since the man on third was awarded one free base, The runner on second gets third base because of the one free base award.
@mptr1783
@mptr1783 2 жыл бұрын
actually, the preceding runner wasnt "forced" to advance and was not awarded 3rd base. The obstruction was called, but its a delayed dead ball, so the runner from 2nd made it to 3rd base(Soto didnt tag him in time), so once the play is over, time is called, runner that was obstructed by the catcher is awarded home, other runner made it to 3rd on his own and stays there
@grife3000
@grife3000 2 жыл бұрын
@@mptr1783 Actually reading it, I guess preceding runner would be one in front of the one obstructed. I was just going with poor understanding and it looked like the umpire was pointing at home AND at third. And on the next pitch in the breakdown there was a runner on third.
@aschulang
@aschulang 2 жыл бұрын
@@mptr1783 agree with you... except you can see Angel H calling a dead ball before the play is over. The runner between 2nd and 3rd could have been put out and the the runner between 3rd and home should only get 3rd. If my understanding is right, they still botched it. Surprised someone didn't protest. I'd say the end result was probably right, but they didn't execute well.

Too many comments to read, so someone may have pointed this out already, but the other crucial rule of the pickle drill that the catcher broke is this: always get to the side of the baseline that is the arm side of the player with the ball. I was hoping you broke down the yankees orioles opener. Thought it had a few special moments like rizzo getting hit by the ball and called out. boonie getting ejected after the game was over and still yelling at the ump, chapman failing to hear the sign and thus the issue of loud crowds when implementing this new strategy etc

So I’m English, and been following baseball for a few years.. but you saying and easy call and angel Hernandez in the same sentence is something I never thought I’d hear

Tennessee vs Alabama game 2 had three coach ejections and a "flop" by the third base ump. There was also maybe bad blood from game 1 and big school rivalry. Idk how to recommend stuff but it seemed like it would make a great breakdown

Obstruction is a delayed dead ball which is why they initially called him out when buddy was tagged but once the play was dead then they correct the call and apply the obstruction if applicable.

Any possibility that we could get a breakdown of the White Sox versus Rays game where the wind took the ball everywhere but the fielder's glove?

I've been so trained by history: my ears heard "Angel Hernandez gets it wrong". I swear that's what I heard. I had to listen back due to the follow up sentence.

It has nothing to do with cutting the line or not, it's just getting out of the base path. It's honestly pretty ridiculous that a professional baseball player could have such a slapdick moment.

This is one of them classic hound an ump for all the bad calls, but not even making an extra point that angel made an excellent call that could have been a very bad one

I still think you should make a breakdown of the giants/Padres game that happened last week, with the breaking of unwritten rules and Alyssa nakken coaching first. It would make a good video, and I would love to get your take.
