I expected a heartwarming story of rebellion and finding his place as a hero on KZfaq...but he's so relatable; it's tragic. I couldn't help but tear up when he was talking about his life and not being able to travel. I'm glad we got to see this side of him, that he could go to Europe to experience things that he's been wanting to do, and start making more dreams. I hope that Natsuki can find relaxation in his new dreams in a way that will allow him to quit smoking; for his sake, and Asami-san's...and also so he can keep putting smiles on everyone's faces for as long as humanly possible.

@@waltwhite8126 Same. I'm starting a job in insurance sales tomorrow. Usually, I hate sales jobs as I'm not good at it. But nearly a decade of working at call centers has broken me. I almost didn't do the interview because the company has mixed reviews...but I'm not going to let that stop me. The way I see it, nothing can be worse than returning to a call center. I'm selling life insurance, something always in need (so I'm not selling useless items nobody would want) and it's in need more than ever now. Plus, I can actually become licensed in other states with similar insurance laws without even living there, thus easily increasing my client list. That already shows that I have way more growth opportunities than any call center I've worked at. I'm excited and scared. I keep making lists of all the things I'll finally be able to do, all the debt I'll be able to pay off, how I can help my family, and then I get nervous about what if I'm not good and I fail? I don't know...but I do know I don't want to go back to before. I literally flaked out and was fired from my last two at-home jobs just because I was mentally burnt out from call centers. I can't get any lower than that.

@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley I wish you the best of luck in your new job! But if you fail, don't give up, I know it's cliche, but that is the truth. I'm looking for another job too! But since I'm already employed I can take my time and try to pick the best job I can. If the company you are working for now reveals to be bad employers, don't think twice and look for another job in the same field. From personal experience, I can say for sure that it is way better to look for a new job when you are employed, bc you can take your time and pick the best one that you can find.

I am glad that I found this movie while staying in Canada to learn English. Natsuki's words of regret in the first part remind me of how precious my disposable time is; even though, I am struggling with improving my English skills. This story taught me that even if I had regrets in my life, interactions with people would create invaluable happiness. I cannot be like you. I wanna be a attractive man like you, Natsuki. In closing, I would like to thank Chris for making this video. I hope you will continue to create great contents like this.

I almost teared up watching Natsuki talk about things he wished he would’ve done, but how he instead took the easy path…I am nearly 40 and I am questioning choices I made in life constantly, and I related to him so much in that moment. And him reading comments on Chris’s KZfaq about him? That was honestly so adorable and pure. How could you not love him?! This was so well done and well made. My husband and I just finished watching it. We love your videos, Chris, and your ever present British sarcasm, humor, and amazing camera work. We have become huge fans of Natsuki. @@ObservationofLimits I know well how many people live like that, that's why it's even worse. There is no need to fear death, but it is stupid to willingly run to it, wouldn't you agree? If only death by smoking wasn't so brutal...There're many ways it will eventually kill you, but, lung cancer is one of the more horrific. Seeing family members, the way they were at the end, was very disturbing. All died before 70. It's not a glamorous or badass death, and the suffering starts long beforehand. I support people's right to do whatever they want with their own bodies if they aren't hurting other people and are of (relatively) sound mind. However, it's easy to think you're a badass who just lives in the moment, not worrying about tomorrow, while you aren't hooked up to oxygen and chemo in a hospital room. It doesn't just make you live less time, your last years are typically hell. I would never say this to a smoker's face (unless they personally were genuinely wanting a wake-up call or motivation to quit) because I "know better" than them. Trust me. They know. I've smoked before. Nobody could've told me otherwise. I get it. But watching the brutal reality of cancer consuming someone you love really shook me. I pass no judgement on people who smoke, but I really wished they wouldn't, even if I keep it to myself.

It's finally here! Almost a year since we started (although we've filmed at various intervals throughout the last year!) About a year and a half ago I made a joke on Patreon about making Natsuki: The Movie. Suddenly everyone decided it was a good idea and off we went, to turn an amusing idea into reality. I learned a heck of a lot from producing this; from learning how to make half decent opening credit sequences and music videos, to attempting to tell a story over the period of an hour. It's been a fun struggle and above all I'm just looking forward to sharing Natsuki's life with you all behind the scenes. A HUGE shoutout to the Abroad in Japan Patreon community for making this happen. Also be sure to stick around for the three post credit scenes! Why not turn it into a fun drinking game; drink every time Natsuki smokes, drinks or swears! (Good luck with that)

This documentary is both well made and speaks volumes regarding friendship . A heart felt story of someone who we have grown very fond of in a short amount of time, mostly due to Natsuki's own magnetic personality. He is the guy that everyone wants to be around. He has this unpredictable nature of which you're never really sure what he is about to say, But when he does say something he has a knack for making everyone smile. He would make a great doctor, in the sense that he is a real down to earth kind of guy that would be easy to get along with. Great production!

This movie is so wholesome and heartwarming, I love Natsuki's enthusiasm. You were really lucky to find each other. I wonder if Natsuki's enthusiasm towards life couldn't be of some help to young hikikomori or young introverted people in general. Some of them might be "hiding" because they feel insecure or like they do not fit in class, but seeing Natsuki and listening to his advice of getting out of Japan (as in being open to other ways of thinking, not just phisically leaving the country) could help them see the big picture, open up their horizons and consider other options. Instead of rent-a-sister, they'd have an older enthusiastic brother, who's not afraid of breaking conventions and be unique. ❤

"Mona Lisa isn't smiling, but I'll make her smile" and i know he damn well he could as well. I love his personality, despite his broken English, whenever I see him in an Abroad in Japan video ( or anywhere else), there's immediately a smile on my face that lasts throughout the entire time he's on screen. This is my first time watching this video, but I've watched a bunch of videos that Natsuki has been in, and tbh, I actually hover over the old videos to see if he's in them, and if he is, i watch them. It sucks seeing that this seemingly happy-go-lucky guy is also inflicted by Japanese work culture. Hopefully that can be changed in the future. Especially with his mention of a long holiday being only a week. He deserves months of holiday with how much joy he brings viewers on youtube.

Opera singing, grandpa playing drum, young mom hip hop dancing... God blessed sake was going around, party went for hours. Old and young, rich and poor we sang, we danced, we laughed loud! @@AbroadinJapan You should not be sad. You have Natsuki. Just call him and talk about balloons. And Also, you have Ryotaro, the biggest expert on beef, and how to kill you.

Same, it’s impossible to see Natsuki in his own element and not have a smile. Such a treasure.

This movie was so moving, makes me want to do more with my life seeing how much one trip effected natsuki, also very well done with the production and editing!

I’ve just discovered your crew. A little late to the party but I must say I love Natsuki and the rest of you! So genuine . So funny. 👍👍👍👍👍

From a tropical city in northeast Brazil, fighting my crappy laptop and battling the heat, I never thought I'd be so happy to see a documentary about a Japanese guy conquering life with the strength of a samurai and charming of a geisha. I will never forget this day.

When Natsuki's wife said his best feature was that "He makes people happy", I really loved that. ❤️❤️

Natsuki is just great. I'm a similar age to Natsuki and I'm dealing with similar issues. Thanks to this movie, I've finally made up my mind and am starting to seriously plan my trip abroad, and the destination is none other than Japan :) Thanks.

I keep coming back to this.. it’s so beautifully made. And could only have been done so beautifully by someone who legitimately cared about his friend.
