The Leeds Natural Flood Management (NFM) Scheme is one of the largest NFM Project of its kind in the UK. The project was formed as a Pilot for how NFM could be delivered at the large catchment scale. The project incorporates a range of innovations and trials of NFM delivery including the development of a BIM compliant programme delivery model and a series of smaller pilot sites.
This presentation discusses how digital delivery as part of the NFM Measures has been integral to improving Safety, Health establishing a long-term legacy for the project.
Key project challenges:
• How to manage the planning, implementation, and monitoring of hundreds of interventions across a catchment the size of the Aire (700km2).
• The need to demonstrate how NFM measures and interventions can work on farms and within an agricultural landscape.
• How to ensure long-term effectiveness of NFM in the Aire Catchment as mitigation for Climate Change effects from 2050.
• How the delivery timescales of NFM at this scale can be managed for a generational project that has a greater than 10 year delivery timeline.
• The next steps for the Leeds NFM project using green investment to finance interventions.
