@@CoilyDiaries I understand , it is a lesson and Learned. We all make mistakes, try it again and stick to what works the best . Which is always back to the basic . Try again with mini twist only with your hair . You have a lot of hair and it is thick too , so try it again . I have medium shot length , arm pit length , I am close to bra strap lenght . It took me only four hours to complete my mini twist today . I will try to keep it for 2 1/2 weeks and see what happens. You have it before, try it again 😀 for me , it works best for only my own natural hair . Anything added cost problems and money too 😆

So so sorry you had that setback. I can definetly feel your pain and hear it in your voice. Thanks for being so transparent. Yes, I was skeptical starting the 2024 hair challenge by adding hair. My hair is super sensitive to changes. I also had a setback last year after using the Revair before installing my natural twists to keep them more detangled. Gurl!! Wrong move. I used protein and heat protectant and my hair paid the price still. The split ends, brittleness, ssk you name it. No more heat, styling tools, added hair etc. You taught us to stick with what works and dont deviate or follow trends. Just aloe vera juice, glycerin, leave in and oil to seal...thats it girl, that's all our hair loves is that same ole basic, boring yet super effective process. I'm still recovering myself from last Sept when I used the heat. With God and our tried and true routine you mastered in 2023 and taught us, we've got this! Pray over your hair and retrust your perfected process that got u to WL and I know your hair will bounce back and thrive quickly again. God's blessings to you from one twisted natural to another.

So sorry to hear that you've had a setback! Personally I feel brushes eat up the ends precisely because you have to start from the ends and go over them so many times as you work up. @@antoinettenyuurnibe3302 Nope! 😃 You have to use the right technique, and for me it only works if I detangle under running water, but basically, you are getting the sheds out from the first few inches, then you hold the hair in your hand so you are not tugging directly on your scalp, then gently work the tangles down and out. I got the method I'm currently using from Ladosha Wright and tweaked it to suit me. ☺️

Sis it's this particular "protective hairstyle" that chewed your hair up 😭 it was doing the same to me for years & i didn't even know it. I used to wear this style so much years ago because it was so easy to do & super cute. I actually made a shorts last year showing the hairstyles I refuse to do in my hair again & this was the #1. I have fine strands as well, so Senegalese/rope/two strand twists (no matter what type of hair is included) just does not protection. Our hair might as well be loose because it rubs, dries up, and tangles on itself. I just stick to mini braids/mini twists w/o extensions or knotless braids because everything is tucked without any tensions. Set backs sucks 😩 (just went through one myself during my last wash day), but we have the knowledge to grow it back 🙌🏾

Thanks for sharing, I know it must be difficult as you were nailing the Rupanzel assignment. But as you say it's just a small setback, by the end of the year you will get all the length back. I have had this issue in the past, I think maybe the chemicals in the extentions, coupled with the colour/dye treatment effects our hair. The added nature of the coarse texture of the synthetic hair against ours, leaves the most delicate part of our hair suffering from chronic dryness. Instead I try to cornrow the hair flat (like a weave), and crochet the extentions in instead, so that the natural strands are slightly more protected, but there's always the risk of breakage lingering 😕

I don’t think you did it properly. But for those who would like to try the synthetic hair. This is my suggestion. 1- I notice you have to many sections. I would limit the amount of section to 24 the most. They will be large twist, but you need more of your own hair to hold the weight of added hair regardless if the hair says “lightweight”. This is especially true if you have fine hair like me. 2- You need to coat seal your hair with a form of “grease” You better invest in some blue magic, Vaseline, or beez wax, whatever. But you need something greasy to protect your hair from the friction of added hair especially if you have fine hair strands. 3 - Make sure you do a good protein treatment before installation. 4 - When your hair is long you cannot moisturize or wash the added hair with your own hair. It adds too much weight. You need to untwist the synthetic hair, then moisturize your own hair, then twist it back. That’s why I don’t suggest more than 24 braids. You need easy access to your own hair to do a health check. 5 - Again, Do not wash synthetic hair with your natural hair if your hair is long. This is too much weight. I suggest doing alcohol free witch hazel and peppermint Scalp wipe. I can’t comment on the comb part or brushing part. That’s something you will have to figure out. But I can definitely tell where you went wrong on the synthetic hair application. 👍🏽

Sis, I understand how frustrating it can be. I decided not to add any synthetic hair anymore. I lost quite a bit last year when I did that. I think some of the chemicals they put on the hair (even if we wash it) may possibly cause this. And Anytime I overindulge in sugar, my hair pays the price. The more I drink water, a little ACV, very little to no sugar, the better my hair does and the less grey I see. But your hair is absolutely gorgeous!! I’m sure it won’t take long to get back to waist length because you’ve trained it well. 😊

Hi, I recently ran across your videos while searching videos for fine natural hair. I am on a journey to grow my fine hair healthy and long. My hair is currently just at shoulder length at its longest and nose length at its shortest. Its been the same length for years. Due to shrinkage, I use braided synthetic hair to add length and fullness. I'm required to have my hair pulled up for work. I have started trying to also use Ayurvedic masks and teas to strengthen my hair before putting my hair in any protective style using synthetic hair. I have noticed a big difference. I do use a wide tooth comb to detangle my hair. I also started twisting my hair and air drying to stretch my hair. I don't braid my own hair and do believe the stylist I use is not rough, but not as gentle as I am with my hair. There are no natural hair salons that I can find in Southern California. I am trying to find a way to style, hydrate, and nurture my hair. I watched the live with you and the other natural ladies this weekend. I struggle with really learning how to care for and style my natural fine hair. Additionally, trying to find styles for corporate America is still a struggle. I too want to find a way to use synthetic hair and still be able to grow healthy hydrated hair. I am trying to also find a style I can rock without using synthetic hair. The struggle is real. I subscribed to your channel last week and look forward to future videos and advice to help. Many thanks.

I've found that spring twist hair is ridiculously dry. There are some marley type hair that are a bit better (like bobbi boss jamaica hair), but I AVOID spring twist hair in general. I also have fine strands and for detangling use a wider detangling brush with less teeth, it's called "wet brush" (the one you have in the video is a bit too rough on my hair). Hope this helps someone. Finger detangling and twisting your own hair is still best but if time/energy is a factor, these help.

The best method thar worked for me requires a lot of prep on the sybthetic hair. I make sure to coat the synthetic hair with butter and then grease, my own hair in leave in wirh glycerin, oil, then butter and grease. This way theres many layers of priduct hetween my hair and the sythetic hair. I still have access to my scalp and I tend to only leave in for max 8 weeks

Sorry about your set back . As a hairdresser i always get my customers to buy silky soft kinky hair every time because i am aware of this too. I usualy try to match the extension to the persons hair . Also dont forget there is chemicals in the extensions as well that dont take well to lots of water. I usually make the hair damp not wet. And keep it light. Hope that can help someone.

My hair doesn't cope with combs or brushes. My hair does not like to be finger detangled either. Detangling my hair is a nightmare. Solely finger detangling takes for-ever. Lots of hair loss because my strands stick together which will always be a problem that will result in hair loss.

Oh no, sorry about that setback but after the trim it will grow back in no time, i have been there twice and both times i lost half of my hair to these stylists that don't really know what they are doing. I learnt that my hair thrives best with protective styles done with my own hair. I also do Marley twists but i moisturize the braiding hair first and my hair before installation but this style is usually when i want a break from weekly washdays mostly twice a year. Some hair tools are better than others, if you ever want to use tools again try seamless combs that is what i switched to. Most detangling tools have very rough edges on their bristles and believe that is how get the damage. The denman d38 power paddle is my favorite brush and pegasus medium sized comb#502

I know your pain. The last two times I added synthetic hair I noticed a huge difference in the quality and texture of my hair. It was very dry&brittle….Almost like I had 2 textures.. the length of my hair & then the ends ( bushy & dry)! I had to cut off at least 3 inches the first time & just lost a lot ( extreme shedding) the 2nd. I’ve vowed not to add synthetic hair again. If I ever absolutely have to add hair, I’m opting for human hair in hopes that it will be all the difference. Wishing you the best.

I feel like i had a slight setback too. Only I tried deviating from the usual hair products i use due to accessibility. I used a store bought product rather than the products i usually order. My hair is super frizzy and i feel like its breaking off a little. Not in huge clumps, but you know how you can just tell. Like around my face frame the ends look more see through than usual. I have waist length 4 a/b hair that shrinks about 75-80 percent. I've had a few setbacks over the years to where i tore out pieces of my hair out of frustration because it was so matted. By just leaving it alone and keeping it washed, detangled and moisturized, it grows back rather quickly.

@@CoilyDiaries facts!! The products I use are really clean and natural. My hair thrives with it, but I moved to a new city and my hair has been a bit dry. Plastic and our hair don't mix . I recently did a self-installed lightly crocheted protective style on my hair. I could only keep it in a couple days bc I could feel my hair was damaged just from the friction between the plastic hair that I had just ran through mine. That plastic hair literally slices like a plastic butter knife. It's brutal.

I can't emphasize enough how I appreciate your honesty 🙏💕💖 God bless you So now I'm wondering, what does this mean for you in terms of keeping your style for three months? Coz the synthetic hair was the solution we were going with to try to make the style last that long - while moisturizing and washing our hair at least once a month... Will you decide to redesign the protective style challenge? I had to redo two braids last week, and I noticed how dry my ends were, and I was concerned, still am, coz I know my strands are definitely fine, 4c, high porosity... So I instantly knew I might have to go about the challenge differently from how we (who joined the challenge) took it on originally..

great question! the first style I recommended was the cornrows. you also have twists and braids with your own hair to explore but with twists, they wouldn’t last that long so braids or cornrows with your own hair if you want to leave it in long. crochet is an option. if adding synthetic hair, we need to get abit particular about what hair we use and how we prep and install it. which is isn’t in the original video but will share this as time goes on. if you are wearing synthetic hair particularly kinky hair, don’t wash in it and remove it in 6 weeks tops. steam your hair weekly within those 6 weeks and cleanse only your scalp if you have to. more details in upcoming videos 🌺

In 2021 I did a similar challenge to get from armpit to bra strap, and let the style for 3months with my own hair (no wig). Last year I kept it for 5months and I’ve reinstalled the style for another long term stretch. Aiming for butt length by end of 2024.

I love your content and I really follow a lot of your moisture methods. I know you have researched protein and thoroughly believe that we are all high porosity. If I am not mistaken, you have added more protein in your routine. I know you are probably rolling your eyes at my constant argument about protein for some of our hair types. I staunchly disagree that protein is good for all 4c naturals. I do use products with very low protein such as Melanin leave-in but more than that I have learned from my own hair that I suffer extreme dryness that stays with me for a long time. It takes 2-3 washes to revert my hair back to being moisturized and since I wash every 4-6 weeks that is a very huge setback for me and my ends break and knot. I have not tried your extreme moisture training method following a protein treatment so maybe that will work. But I am scared to risk it. Have you considered maybe the addition of protein can also be a culprit? I was not going to post this, but because I LOVE how you approach, study, and and understand general hair concepts, I feel safe asking the question without judgement.❤
@CoilyDiaries
@CoilyDiaries 5 ай бұрын
it’s not protein because I have not operated it into my hair yet. the style I was wearing did not allow and I took lots of time to figure out which treatment I wanted to try. I stand on all type 4 naturals needing protein. just because your hair gets stiff doesn’t necessarily mean you don’t need it . frequency, type of proteins in product are crucial. I have a video for protein sensitive hair
