I had a “mini stroke” about a month ago. MRI came back ok (layman here looking up and researching what the report says) and carotid arteries are fine. I have had high cholesterol all of my 74 years. I took Lipitor for a while and quit taking it because I felt horrible. Both of my parents had very high cholesterol and my Mom’s carotid arteries were 95% blocked on both sides. She was almost 95 when she passed and my Dad was 93. I have to go see my doctor this Thursday and I KNOW she will be lecturing me about taking statins. I’ve told her no since I first started seeing her and will do the same until I leave this earth! I may need to change doctors because I’m not buying the big pharma thing anymore! I’m watching some of your past videos and am learning so much! Thank you for all you do!❤️

A senior friend of mine had a bad experience with lipitor, after taking it for 6 months, he started having serious brain fog and thought he was getting dementia. He stopped taking the lipitor, and slowly over a year he finally got rid of the brain fog and it turns out, he doesn’t have dementia after all.

Medium chain triglycerides (MCT) will help tremendously with brain fog. Cognitive issues. It comes from coconut oil. My son is a traumatic brain injury patient. Hi Heidi. I know you know this, but a few of our community may not. When using natural supplements, please remember there will not be instant results. The natural ingredients tend to work with your body. They may take longer to work for some people. It may be days or months to really see results. In this day & age, people sometimes expect instant results. Sometimes it is better if results are improved over a span of time. This allows your individual body to work with a supplement. Plus the results will be longer lasting. Stay safe. Keep prepping. God bless.
@RainCountryHomestead

Right and thank you for bringing that up. Same applies to assuming just taking an herb or supplement will cure a disease when there is much more to it than that. I think this mentality comes from big pharma medicine where there is always "a pill for that"

I was an RN until I had the sense to retire I researched cholesterol years ago and my conclusion was that the entire cholesterol story was a big scam by the pharmaceutical industry. Statins, beta blockers and few other meds are what I called ‘just in case’ meds. In fact one drug I worked out that only 2 in 100 people might benefit, the rest took it for nothing. Go back to the 80s and see how that coincided with HRT and the amount of hysterectomies performed. The allopathic medical industry for the most part is not your friend. Yes if you get knocked down by a bus then it’s great, but for long term conditions, many of which are lifestyle induced, they are useless and often downright dangerous.

These evil people wants t force things on you, and I just refuse to listen my ldl is 2.88 my hdl is 2.44 my dr thinks I should take lipitor, she has been so persistent about it I took the prescription, but never filled it. I took my blood work to another dr, she told me noting was wrong with my cholesterol. I took my papers to a naturopathic dr. Who told me every thing was good. Except, he wanted me toget my Alc below 6. It was 6.2, so every thing is going good when I get up in the mornings, my sugar is 3.9 to 5.2 so I know I am on the right track .don't for one minute that thes drs, know much more than you. What's funny is I was told I was borderline high cholesterol, and was told to lower it, so I looked up the best foods to lower cholesterol and to raise the HDL & lower LDL. Ironically, eating the whole egg (minus the shell, of course) was a one food that lowered the raised HDL and lowered LDL. Yet the pamphlet the doctor office gave me said to do egg whites only. Always do your own research and follow with an educated decision. The decision is yours, not the doctors'. I followed my own diet that I found online, and when I went back to the doctor 6 weeks later the doctor was pleased with the results, then I told him what all my diet was, and he laughed and he said nodded saying that the pamphlet needed to be updated.

@@RainCountryHomestead probably because the pamphlets were from paid adverts like the "free" samples of drugs doctors used to give perhaps? I told him point blank that it was pretty lazy for him to just give people those pamphlets to follow. Not everyone is going to be like me and do more research. I mean, many of his patients are elderly, and don't have access to the internet because they are intimidated by it. They feel like they're too old to learn to use it... which is a load of horse pucky.

Thank you, Heidi, for more helpful information!! I remember growing up and my grandmother had high cholesterol and she was on meds, they told her not to eat butter, so switched to margarine, Crisco, vegetable oils and her cholesterol was still high. When I started going to school for nursing, I believed what they spouted. Well, I started looking into health and a little herbalism, and was telling my grandma not to eat these things; but she trusted her doctor; so, she still ate those things. The problem that was going on with her was heat issues as well. Grandma never got off the lipitor and still had high cholesterol. My mom as well is on cholesterol meds too! but she smokes, eat not good, and again they trust what the doctors feed them. I am not on any cholesterol meds, and I will not go on them. Heidi, like you I will try it with healthy things first, by eating good things and herbs, vitamins; before taking things that will cause other things. Thank you, Heidi, for another good informational video.

Exactly. Aspirin originally came from white willow bark but the active ingredient has since been synthesized. You made me smile when you talked about eating okra before it got to the slime. My sister always hated okra because she said it's too slimy. I myself love okra especially if it's breaded and fried. I had just made myself some when my sister stopped by to visit, she walked in helping herself to some of my okra, telling how good it was. I asked her when she decided to eat okra, she grimaced and shivered telling me she never touches the stuff. That's when I burst out laughing telling her what she was busily munching on. Now she makes her own. For me I rarely give up on eating something until I've tried it different ways for the exact reason my sister discovered she didn't mind it one way but despised it another, sometimes it's all in the prepping that can make something either good or terrible

You mentioned red yeast rice. I was in the drugstore looking for one of the supplements I was out of and mentioned to the lady next to me to holler if she saw it. She told me to look for red yeast rice for her as I was perusing. I asked her what that was for and she said her doctor had recommended it versus taking a prescription medicine. It was either for heart, cholesterol, or blood pressure. I honestly can't remember which but it sounded good so I bought some. It's validating to hear you mention it.

My doctor recommended it for me for high cholesterol. Took it for a while but didn't see any benefit. Honestly, it probably would've worked better if I had taken it in conjunction with diet changes, exercise and eliminating bad habits. Maybe I'll try again now that I know better 😉

@@ccwriter2544 good luck! To both of us. I've been taking cholesterol medicine for years but haven't had it measured for years. I was in the hospital for a couple days back in March and they did all kinds of blood tests but I was surprised when I asked if they'd done a cholesterol test and they said no. I heard Sam's club does them but then they had to suspend it during the pandemic so I've been meaning to try and remember to ask them if they are doing them again yet. I've changed my eating habits a lot since the last time it was checked so I'm curious where it stands at this time. I stopped taking the cholesterol medicine a few months ago to see how I would do without it. I can't tell any difference with or without it. That's why I'd like to get a test done to see what the numbers are.

I left a comment up above, but in case you miss it I'll condense it here: After serious health scares & doctors doing nothing about them, I researched & found out about "Berberine". I began taking 500mg 3x/day & my blood pressure, A1-C, blood sugar, high cholesterol AND weight all went down. I'm not even taking it anymore. It is the same ingredients that Metformin & many cholesterol medications are made from, but available OTC & $10 a bottle with no side effects (for me, anyway). Please check with your own doctors.

I absolutely love your videos. They always pop up in my research. I didn’t see any comments, but if it is in here my apologies. One of my favorite things to add to our diet and to our dogs is common purslane. I believe in eating the weeds. Common purslane is very high in omega-3‘s. I have substituted okra with common purslane and many recipes. It’s amazing one of my favorites. Can be eaten raw or cooked.

Our ND pushed for my hubby to see an endocrinologist to find the source of his very LOW blood pressure, they did all these tests and in the end told him they can't find the reason so he should just continue to treat the symptoms with more toxic pharmaceuticals , this made me so angry, up here in Canada, they do NOT care about our age group anymore, in fact their trying to take us out.

I watch my saturated fats, because stokes run in our family. With doing all the changes I have made to be healthier my bad cholesterol is still high. I feel I might need something to help my LDL. Great video (as usual), Heidi! Homemade sauerkraut is also a fantastic way to balance HDL/LDL. My last batch was made with purple cabbage and a little bit of whey (strained from whole milk yogurt). The whey really helped move along the fermentation process.

While I like sauerkraut, I prefer kimchi and have been making it for years but found more recently that my favorite type of cabbage to use in it is red cabbage. It adds a certain sweetness and flavor that seems to take it over the top. I use a homemade ferment starter (no whey) and no brine (I used to use a brine many years ago but takes so much salt): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mtKTaJhi3bCroZ8.html

I spoke with an RN who is very into holistic health. She told me that doctors often start with medications even when they have natural solutions because the natural solution takes more effort with lifestyle changes and they take longer to start working. So for those of us who want a natural, let healthy lifestyle please ask your MD or DO about natural solutions and changes that you can make instead of going to a pharmaceutical. And of course, keep watching Heidi for awesome information! Blessings!

However, my husband and many win his family have Familial Hypercholestetolemia. He will never be able to get it down naturally. He and his brother both tried. They both had to have open heart surgery- multiple bypasses. Now my husband is on a statin, co Q10, and an injectable. It is the only way he will see his grandchildren. We eat healthy. He has a very physical job. He looks like a very healthy guy- the nurses all asked him about his workout routine 🤣 He just works hard and stays busy.

I also have Familial Hypercholesterolemia. The doc just keeps pushing statins. Only problem is I am allergic to about statin that walks the earth. I have had 2 back surgeries and 1 for my shoulder and the only pain meds I can take is over the counter Tylenol. I have had several tests and they tell me that my circulation is all good but the doctor always has a panic attack every time I get a blood test. I am now looking into herbal treatments to see if any will help and do need to loose some weight.

I was prescribed statin for cholesterol, the Dr said not to drink or eat grapefruit and that it can affect the liver but barely mentioned it. So i looked it up what the side effects could be and i came up with that it does / can affects the liver. The Dr NEVER called or had ANY one contact me to follow up to check on my liver. Coincidentally a few days later i went into a major hotel (been out all day needed to use the lil rascals room) and there was some kind of medical convention going on. I asked some of the people there some were Drs some not... They told me to stay away from the statin drugs i was givin. I never took any of them either, didnt throw them away but didnt take any.

Trans fat has not been allowed to be used in food in the U.S. since June 2018. The scientific paper by Fred Kummerow that showed the trans fat was bad for health was published in the journal Science in 1957, but it was ignored by the medical community. You can check the article "Professor who campaigned to ban trans fats dies at 102" from the Washington Post to learn his fight with FDA.
