This is a sample video of a new format I am considering to demonstrate build techniques especially for the foiling process of this all foiled Spitfire build MJ250
Please me a coffee to help me out with this channel :) www.buymeacoffee.com/banditxzxzf

Exactly what I wanted to see was the hard bits, and great music choice. Carry on with more. Thanks!

Very good video. Showing the steps, the tools, but very importantly, the meticulousness required to do the task. I don’t have the patience to watch the very long videos, and I prefer one like this one, and then spend the hour trying to actually do it. Have also seen another video you made about the alufoil process. You make very inspirational and educational videos, which are a joy to watch, thanks.

I think its a great idea. The technique has been around a long time and I predict model kit manufactures will start incorporating this along with metal etch parts I gave it a go late 1970, They actually had packets of foil you could buy, however it didn't take off , however glues have advanced along with model scale. My attempt was on 1/48. Applying this to 1/24 makes the kit look amazing you're a brave soul :-)

It takes a lot of patience. I used to do this in the 70’s when I was in my early teens

Very good. Don't worry about the length of the video. It's as long as the process takes and it's easy to watch on 1.5 speed or just FF through to see the bits you want. The main thing is showing the process.

I absolutely love this! It’s definately something I would like to try on my models. And I would love a longer video, without music. I also build RC models and it’s certainly something I will use on them.

Great to know. Keep tuned in I’ll be dropping a longer video soon pretty much like this covering more of the fuselage. I need to keep the music as some like it, I guess you can mute it. Thanks for the input 🙏

Fascinating stuff Richard - I would have liked some narration around how you dealt with the join between the two pieces on the leading edge of the fin. Having seen you go through the single panel process in detail, I'm happy to give it a go; however the join between two panels is the bit that gives me the heebie geebies for now.
@RichardsModellingAdventures

Hi Phil, sand the first part to feather it a little then simply over lap the second piece and burnish it down. I'll be releasing a new video soon showing foiling of the whole fuselage. it will be in chapters so easy to navigate.

I had a thought, a " what if"....Building a balsa model aircraft and instead of paper/ tissue. Use aluminum foil for the skin. On plastic models, the " seams" are seen. Just cut the foil to match the seam
@RichardsModellingAdventures

Check out a web site called warbirds in my workshop. The chap uses a wood core skinned with lithoplate. Amazing stuff. On a small scale model I fear foil would not form round an open structure so well. It can be done but not at this 1/24 scale with thin foil. It would need thicker metal and it would need to be pre formed

I think compound curves, the real complex ones, can be done with Alclad paint or the like while bigger surfaces can be foiled (and not spoiled). I have done really small 1:72 models with foil and mixed the foil with the gleaming side and the dull side of the alufoil and also different types of alufoil. And how will we do the titanium surfaces? Paint? Or paint the foil transparant style?
@RichardsModellingAdventures
@RichardsModellingAdventures Ай бұрын
The Spitfire does not have any titanium so in this case it’s not an issue. Jets on the other hand need the help of paint. You can get foil made of titanium but it’s very expensive. Part of the cowling made need to be painted in this model

@RichardsModellingAdventures
@RichardsModellingAdventures Ай бұрын
@@deanmaguire6701Hi Dean, It's just a good quality foil. This brand is from Ocado. Any of the better quality foils work, they are a ticker than the cheap stuff that is horrible to work with.

What glue to use? I have 2 spits at 1/24 in their boxes, one is a floatplane. Is the foil one the prototype K1054? Or some number like that without searching

As soon as you add in a curve the shape changes. The foil has to be formed around the shape
