Hi Richard, great job with the model. Can't wait to see it after you are done rigging it. By the way, the term for an aircraft that has a larger top wing than the lower wing is sesquiplane.

Interesting video that I found by chance. I gave up modelling some time ago because I found myself following trends on KZfaq. I bought the kits that the ‘cool’ guys bought and I tried to build them essentially the same as they did. I realised I wasn’t doing the hobby for myself so I just stopped and turned to something else. However, I have recently bought a Tamiya LRDG Chevrolet, SAS Jeep and an Italeri European SAS Jeep and a Tamiya Pink Panther just to make a little tribute to the early days of the SAS for myself. I have bought the Eduard PE sets to enhance them a little bit but I don’t care how accurate the kits are or if I get the colour ‘wrong’. They will be just for me, I won’t be sharing them on social media, they will just sit in a cabinet at home. I don’t know if I will build anything after them, I would like to do something to represent the SAS in the present day but I don’t know what that would be. So yes hobbies are just that and, like many hobbies, ‘influencers’ can ruin them especially when they are creating things supplied by the manufacturers just to influence people to buy them. Watching videos of people creating something simply because they want to and no trying to push it onto other people is quite refreshing so please, keep doing what you do so well🙏

Hi Mate, you're making great progress on the Bulldog. It and the Fury... ( hmmmm...Now that's a Project you might want to consider for the future ?.🤔 I'm sure I and the rest of the audience would love to see you build one ? 😃 )...are my two favourite bi-plane Fighters from the 30's. I don't think you will have too much trouble with the rigging , daunting though it may seem. If you check out your reference photos of the Hendon Bulldog, you'll see that the rigging attaches to small, truncated triangular brackets sightly inboard of the outboard Struts, top and bottom. ( hope that makes sense ? ). When rigging, I've found it easier to attach all the wires/threads to the top wing before mating it to the lower wing. I'll then secure these threads to the top of the top wing with colour coded tape to keep them out of the way while mating the wings and to differentiate which thread goes where. And for a bit of rigging terminology trivia...the double wires running upward from the bottom wing near the fuselage towards the outboard struts on the top wing are called the " Flying " wires. And the single wires running downwards from just outboard of the 'Carbane Strut on the top wing to slightly inboard of the outboard strut on the bottom wing are called the " Landing " wires. Jeez that was a mouthful...I'll shut up now 🙄. 🍻

Well said, Richard. I began at 12 y/o with Aurora WW1 planes then Monogram and Revell. There was certainly no PE then and resin cast parts didn't surface until the early 80's. During this period if you wanted an addon or needed to correct/add a scale part, you fabricated it on your own. We'd find ourselves going to and through stores such as sewing shoppes or 5 and dime stores looking at each and every item and thinking "how can I use this ". I acquired my first airbrush - Badger 100 single action - in 1975 then began building and competing in a scale aircraft modeling club and against other clubs in the area in 1979. Then regional after that til 1991. After a long hiatus I began modeling for myself in 2021. How true that we learn valuable skills through modeling. And for me it's also an immersive escape to my youth and love of aircraft. So much to learn. I was given the opportunity to join a local club but the need to meet completion deadlines et al tends to take the relaxation and joy out of it. If I were younger - 72 y/o now - I'd jump into a competitive venue. Keep doing what you seem to be doing so very, very well and ENJOY! By the way, building models is a great vehicle to maintain your manual dexterity and thwart the early onset of osteoarthritis in you hands and fingers. Cheers Rhys

Utterly fantastic, Richard! I tried this using adhesive backed foil (the stuff employed by hvac techs on ductwork sealing) on a scratcbuilt 1/5 scale r/c Hawker Hind. Looked not nearly your quality but the effect was good. I did have a bit of a weight penalty of 3+ pounds. Luckily you don't incur that. I'm so impressed at your ability. I build 1/48 and 1/72 scale so it would be hard to pull off on such a small subject. I do now recall using silver leaf on an Otaki Ki 43 in 1982. It was hard but with much frustration and inadvertently applying silver leaf on my workbench, tools and everything else. Once it adheres it's on for good absolutely no seam or weeping. I'd really like to see your magic on a P 47 Razorback in 1/32 or larger if available . Cheers Rhys

Totally agree with your comments. We all make kits as wd want to make them. There is a culture of "I must do this because I see someone on the internet do it" They copy errors too so more people copy the errors thinking it must be correct because that error has been copied so many times. I dislike all this heavy panel lining. Look at a kit with loads of black lines all over it then look at a real plane. Where are the lines? Like you I find it dull building out of the box and love buying an inferior kit and improving it. I do my research and try and get it right to avoid copying others errors. One quick question why is one engine bearer longer than the other on the Spit? Never realised it was before seeing yours. Cheers and keep it up. 😊

Thanks for the input Ricardo. Don't get me started on panel lines, they do add interest but don't reflect reality in most cases. Re the engine bearer, they are both the same length but you can also see one of the cooling pipes sticking out the front that's also the same colour

Glad I subscribed, your videos are really helpful, especially because you call out the paints you use. I discovered that Tamiya premier a few months ago and it is excellent with a nice smooth covering. Fascinating application, I think you might have solved a problem over 60 years old. Back in the late 50's early 60's HAWK made about 6 kits and all the parts were chrome even the crew. Hawk was trying to duplicate the all metal look. . Every sprue was chrome. I built the T33 and it look good from the side. However the only problem was when you put the fuselage together, you couldn't fix the seam lines just had to accept it. The kits didn't stay on the market long. Watching your video I wished I'd kept a few of those kits, I bet your foil technique would work.
@RichardsModellingAdventures6 күн бұрын
Never heard of HAWK kits, they sound interesting. I was first involved with foiling back in the 70's when my father and I used to glue it on with varnish, a coat on the foil and a coat on the model. When it was nearly dry it was tacky enough to act as a contact adhesive. The new glue available makes the process a lot easier. I sure didn't invent the technique but I do try to constantly develop it.
@c123bthunderpig6 күн бұрын
@@RichardsModellingAdventures unfortunately HAWK is no longer around I don't remember who " bought them out". However , I think the last attempt to keep this chrome series going was issued around 1967. There are some on eBay but I'm not sure if their chrome process hasn't faded over the years I do remember that " sticky glue process" you mentioned. It might be interesting to get a kit and try your new process on it.. I might give it a go if they are not to high priced. The kits were 1/48 and I remember there was a T33, a Bearcat, Mig 15, F84 P47D and P51. If the chrome is still good matching the foil might not work and enamel paints were the only paint to get any coverage. Still, it might be worth a try.

In regard to the Black" line" detail on this section, if you have any spare 48th scale "wing walk " decals laying around these can provide an easy solution if you want to avoid masking and painting them in. Wow, a B36 ! That's a big Bird ! It should look Magnificent when you get it skinned up. You might find that cheaper, thinner foil is easier to use in 1/72nd scale, than the thicker Foil Richard uses in 24th scale ? It's not as forgiving as the thick foil and you may need to adjust your approach for the smaller scale ( you won't be able to sand out creases using the thinner foil like you can with the thicker foil, but it will probably be easier to conform to the tighter curves you'll face in 72nd scale...(.Or , I could be completely mistaken ? 😜) In the end it's whatever works best for you and your current project. Those early SAC schemes are very attractive 👍 You might also want to consider having a Shiny fuselage and Dull wings and empennage to give an interesting contrast to the finish ?
